You think there was no reason Henderson was taken at pick 8 in a much stronger draft, or that Lucas was taken at 12, 15 spots higher in the same draft? Do you think clubs don't do their research on players before picking them? Or is it just because he had a knee injury you think you can compare him to Selwood?

Mitch Thorp was taken before Selwood. Didn't get him too far - being taken at a higher draft pick.

If you watch Bartlett's YouTube videos his elite disposal and footy smarts remind me strongly of Selwood. Brisbane always did do quite well in the drafts...

You do realise Thorpe's career was over before it even began thanks to serious injuries in his last year of junior footy. There's every chance Bartlett could go the same way. Way to make someone's point for them

Basically it's Fev and a pick downgrade for Henderson.

I am not sure why all the mine is bigger than yours banter here.

As a pure deal, Brisbane got the better short term advantage. That is undeniable.
Whether Carlton will get the upper hand in years to come from this deal is speculative.

Considering Carlton had their hand forced in this exercise, I couldn't be happier with the nett result as it stands.

Win/Win for mine and only a premiership to either team will announce the ultimate winner.

Yeah but most players' highlights on YouTube are OK to good. Bartlett's are simply sensational. I can't believe you can't see this. And by your logic, no draftees and their associated attributes can be compared to AFL players as they haven't played AFL before...

Brisbane must have done alright in the drafts as we did win 3 premierships in a row...we've also unearthed good to great players like MacDonald, Copeland, Drummond, Harding and Stiller in the rookie draft alone. In the normal draft we've picked up good to great players like Adcock, Clark, Sherman, Rischitelli, Leuenberger, Brennan, Bartlett, Harwood, Hawksley and Polkinghorne with only two top five picks. I seriously doubt any club has done as well as we have considering the picks we've had to work with.

Sure, but when you use "always" it would seem to indicate a very high strike rate, yet that year other than the first round you could not jump up and down about your selections.

In 2010 the Lions will have a similar 22 (in terms of average age) as the team that beat you in the elimination final. Interestingly enough, that team had a lower average age than Carlton's.

And from our 22 from that final last year to our current 22 delete Stevens 29 and Fevola 30, insert Henderson 20 and Lucas 18.

Ackland and Cloke we picked up via the PSD to fill short term gaps.

Anderson was pick #67 and Benjamin was pick #51 in the ND.

Austin looks likely.

This is what we are saying. You recruited half a dozen middle tier and middle aged players to compliment a list with an already wide age gap between its stars and the rest of the list, and lacking in talented kids (Rich excluded).

Incidentally, Austin and Hawksley were both inclusions for the final last year. Hawksley was instrumental in our win with his excellent foot skills. Proud was recovering from a stress fracture in his foot, and admittedly is still somewhat an unknown, as is Austin.
