So there's only 2 matches this round, but what important matches they are. It's a top of the table clash and one of the late chargers for that 4th spot is on show.

Fri night - Subi v Souths

The holder v the contender. With Stenglein and Cockie back for Subi, v Thornton back for Sowfs you'd think the odds were in favour of the Lions re-taking top spot. Either way, 1 of these teams has a chance to almost guarantee a top 2 spot nearing the end of the season. However, if you look at the runners and forwards for Souths, you'll see that this game will go to the wire.
There's Bell, Hams x 2, Adams, Miller, McGrath, Dell'olio, Graham, Smithers up against Bristow, Fletcher, Stenglein, Cockie, Cossom, Hildebrandt, Keevers, Horsley, Pickett, Newick and Rix. Some decent cattle amongst that lot, a lot to look forward to.
For Souths forward Wilson is in a rare vein of form and I would try to match him with Parker, because I think he could get hold of "egg shells". Murphy against Rumble and Farmer against Stack?
Then looking from the other side, Smith against Hunt? Maplestone v Bairstow (is he fit?) or will Wilson be forced to move back? Which would be a win for Subi I reckon. Broadhurst is probably the hardest to match up on and maybe Siegert? takes him - I don't rate Siegert just can't think of another name. Dennis-Lane will be taken by either White or Ugle, I'd say.
Should be a great match and I look forward to getting along there tomorrow night.:thumbsu:

Peel v East Perth

An equally important match if the Royals have any delusions towards finals participation. If they get there they can certainly do some damage, as Swans and Subi can attest. However, with 2 byes in the last 5 rounds they will need to win all matches to have a chance.
This is the chance some fringe AFL players get to work themselves back into form, namely McKinley and Schofield. Morabito can impress further, as can Duncan, Hutchings, Stratton, Luff and possibly Beswick and Mason.
Whilst you can't see the Royals losing this one, this is exactly the sort of match they lose, when they're not pumped up against a big opponent and I expect Peel to give a much better account of themselves.

Anyway, for many it's a long and boring weekend but for those going to the footy, enjoy and show you're passion for your team and the WAFL, like Benjamin who rang 6PR tonight!:D:thumbsu:

Should be an alright week for our WAFL dwellers.

Callum Wilson just dragged Souths over the line agains the Lions at Medibank oval.

Another 20 posession game, 11 marks, 5 goals and 6 behinds. If the radar was on he could have had 10.

He's simply too good to be in the WAFL, especially when the likes of Hansen and Lynch patrol your forward line. It's his timing which is such a standout, always seems to hit the contest at full tilt.

If he cant get a gig this year, Im sure Freo will look at
him next.

From tonight's match Wilson was obviously the stand out. Superb second half, in particular, when he started kicking the goals. Read's the flight of the ball well, leads superbly, as Mundy has said.

Fletcher, IMHO and I know Mundy disagrees, was the best of the Eagles players, but still not enough for a recall. There's really no point, because we know he can't emulate the WAFL form at AFL level, because he doesn't get the time and space he needs. BUT, you can't question his commitment at the ball and contest. Will offer Subi very, very good service at WAFL level for a few more years.

Cockie, started like a teenager having his first shag and then ran out of a bit of steam (as did the rest of the team) but came back very well, particularly in the last. Hard at the contest, just lacks a little polish still.

Stenglein, really should have taken the game by the throat, his opponent was a sub 6' player, giving away something like 6 inches, but either Subi weren't smart enough to take advantage or Stenglein just coasted through the game. It was so obvious to me when I saw Hams running with him and then it was reinforced when Stinger took a mark in the F50 opposed to him in the third, just no one took advantage of it.

Agree with his timing of his leads, was superb tonight. Also agree with the bit about Freo!

I like Cockie, but for mine he just doesn't get enough ball, even in the WAFL.

Sure alot of his possessions are contested but he still needs to rack up bigger numbers.

Why is it he never gets 30+ possessions at WAFL level?

I wouldn't worry about that too much just yet, given that he's pretty good when he's got it in his hands. I'd rather be working on finding more of the pill than getting 30+ and not being effective with them.

I haven't seen him play but statistically speaking we have to get Wilson a game ASAP.

The last time we were in a similar position it was Chad Jones and we managed to give him a few games to prove himself. The difference is Jones wasn't getting 20 touches a game with his 5 goals.

Was supposed to go last night but got distracted. Sounds like I missed a great game too. Please upgrade Wilson... Please

South Fremantle coach John Dimmer took Wilson aside at the final change to restore his confidence in his kicking for goal.

"I just said to Callum that he's a good kick at goal - and he's proved that over the last few weeks - just to relax a bit more and kick through the ball and have a bit of composure," Dimmer said.

"He took that on board and ended up kicking very nicely."

He kicked 4 goals in the last qrt

Nice to see McKinley play well. Watched a few minutes of the game and it looked like J.Jones played on McKinley.

Actually, RE may correct me, but McKinley didn't play that well. He put in 1 good chase for the afternoon and worked for 1 of those 5 goals. Peel's defense lacked discipline, by which I mean he took a mark and another where the mark wasn't paid, and he casually spun around (and I mean casually) and kicked the goal with no Peel defender putting pressure on him. They stopped when the whistle blew and did not switch on.

Having said that, it shows how dangerous he is if he can kick 5 without seemingly trying too hard.

Is it a split week in the WAFL or something?

Sort of. 5 teams have the bye so all teams end up on 20 games played for the 23 round season.
