I was thinking more along the lines of 'The Dale Kickett Cup'

Two match committees enter, one Blues player leaves.

I'd pay to see that. :D

well done for 4.5 days but those **** wits from carltank have bought someone else. good try tho

yeah good deal for freo i rekon.....

warnock is unproven.....

this is one of those ify ones that if warnock does great things freo will get mamed but if he doesnt well freo wins...

We have been dudded - No one told us Pick 24 came with A Certificate of Authenticity :D

Do we play carlton at home next year.
Hope so

Someone should tell Solly that there are some circumstances that an 8 week suspension would be OK.

I don't think we have been so scared since

So, now Carlton has alienated both WA clubs, it will be interesting to see how West Coast and Fremantle react in the future when a young WA blue asks to be traded home. :)
How did we alienate the Dockers?

We did what any other club would have done in our situation when we couldn't secure an earlier pick.

This isn't the Carlton under Parkin and Brittain that threw away picks like confetti at anyone with a reputation as a player.

And don't try to tell us with a straight face that pick 72 will be a better player than Luke Blackwell.

We will suck it up and not whinge about the trade 12 months after the fact if we do trade someone home at less than his worth.

I can't see Bower, Browne and Armfield leaving Carlton. :thumbsu:

I don't see what is so funny about Carlton using picks 6, 40 and 69 in this draft.

The top clubs will only selection three to four players in this draft due to the salary cap.

The Pies, Dogs and Cats received earlier picks for Ray, Shaw and Prismall.

Hard to see Melbourne and WCE drafting that deep when they have both have a PP this year. They can rookie list kids or pick them in the PSD after a pre-season trial than give them a two year contract. A few 18 year olds could fall through to pick 60 if WCE and the Demons go after bottom age kids late due to the GC.

Pick 69 is likely to come down to pick 60 or thereabouts at the draft.

Rounds four and five of the 2007 draft.

4 51 Dean Putt Richmond
4 52 Bradd Dalziell Brisbane Lions
4 53 Kyle Cheney Melbourne
4 54 Cale Hooker Essendon
4 55 Mark Johnson Essendon Fremantle
4 56 Matt Austin Brisbane Lions
4 57 Fraser Gehrig St Kilda(ret.) St Kilda
4 58 Tony Armstrong Adelaide
4 59 Craig Bird Nelson Bay Sydney Swans
4 F/S 60 Adam Donohue Geelong
4 F/S 61 Jaxson Barham Collingwood
4 62 Josh Smith Kangaroos
4 63 Guy O'Keefe Western Bulldogs
5 64 Pass Richmond
5 65 Pass Carlton
5 66 Tom McNamara Melbourne
5 67 Pass Western Bulldogs
5 68 Pass Essendon
5 69 Kepler Bradley Essendon Fremantle

I'm starting to come around. I think we did OK out of a crap situation.

Pick 24 is an OK pick. No-one secured a better pick all week.

Pick 56 we'll definately use.

So not a completely bad outcome.

But make no mistake, we'll be hunting Carlton players in the future. Its the least we owe them. We'll be throwing some offers to players on lesser contracts. If Carlton think they can buy a premiership, other clubs need to put the pressure on salary cap.

If Warnock is worth 400k. Jamison is worth more. He's a bloody good backman. Wouldn't mind stealing him in a year or two. Or maybe Bower, Browne, Armfield....

How did we alienate the Dockers?

Same way you alienate every club. Building lists with a cheque book and extraordinary arrogance - and I'm not talking the last few years, I'm talking history of the game. Every WA club has been r*ped by Carlton at some time in the past, and probably every SANFL club and most of the Victorians ones too. It is just what you do.

But that's an aside...

Given what players went for in this draft, I'd say we did ok, though I'm not turning somersaults. All the clubs seemed to be holding onto picks and we had to get something for Warnock. As to hanging on for a long time for not much more, well, that's trading. I'm glad we got something rather than letting him go to the PSD. Carlton whinging about not doing the trade on Monday...bugger off. If they wanted to get the deal done earlier, make a better offer.

It's done. Let's go forward.

Geez chook, you know I love ya but your a little over the top with some of your posts....
We were never in the drivers seat with this deal. Maybe in time we'll do better out of it. We can;t win with the nuff nuffs which way we went this deal.
The deals done, lets move on.

Name good players that have left the Blues in the last 10 years and had ANY sort of decent career afterwards?;)

Jammo is from Ballarat in central victoria.
Good luck with getting him across.

As Paul Roos said during the Fev deal:
"Players don't leave clubs over money or years, they leave because they want to leave the club".

Carlton and its major sponsor look after its players. They aren't going anywhere.;)

Its not about actually stealing someone. Its about making sure your cap is full to the brim, then maybe someone becomes disgruntled and your perfect plan for a premiership falls apart.

If we are in Jamo's ear, Bower, Armfield, Browne. We drive their asking price up. Carlton eventually won't be able to afford everyone. It might be Murphy or Gibbs who get upset. Adelaide will be in constant contact with Gibbs manager. "500k, come home, we'll make it happen."

The pressures of a salary cap eventually come into play. Maybe not now. But it will come.

Yeah I hope Warnock turns out to be a massive dud now. Sandi can do his bit by snapping him in half next year.

So is this the part where we start bragging about how we offloaded a player who couldn't even get a game over Kep? ;)

I don't mind players leaving to further their career but Im sure he he thinks they will be a chance for a flag soon so I'm with you Esti.He will be the second player to leave us and get booed when we play him if I'm right.

So why bother swapping 69 and 72?

You could have just kept 72, but you wanted 69 for 56... and we ended up with 56 and 72 for 69.

It's small change at the end of the day - but why would you have bothered?

In effect, we got your 4th rounder for free.
And you embarrassingly held out until 1.50pm on Friday to get all of Pick 56. "We're tough, we won't be walked over" then got pick 56. You were offered that before mediation. I though by that time, when I hadn't heard anything, Freo had taken the big stand even if they got nothing. Not that smart either and I'm sure you would've got lambasted but would've been a stand to show the world Freo's finally tough and not to be messed with. Thought with the tough stand you took all week that was going to obviously happen especially given your "tough" stand pushed you into that particular corner. But like Freo of old 1.50pm came and you basically rolled over for pick 56 as an extra. Would've looked less embarrassing if you had taken pick 24 at the start then got on with the rest of the week. Given the circumstances you were never getting much more anyway.

Crap.

The rectal sphincter twitch that rippled through Warnock, his manager and Sticky Icky was well worth holding out for... :D

And the fact that Carlton were not able to get involved in any other deals must have been a little frustrating as I'm sure the pen was poised and ready over the Visy chequebook....

Pick 56 was the bonus.

Well goodie to you.

If the Cats and HAwks can manage their cap, I'm sure we can too.

Do you realise that lots of ex-Carlton players now work for VISY?
I'm sure when they were playing they probab;y took less than they would have got at other clubs........but Carlt......I mean VISY looks after them for LIFE.

Can Freo offer something along these lines?;)

The bottom line is Freo sh!t themselves about Warnock going PSD and getting two parts of nothing for him, pick 56 was offered at mediation, if anything Carlton had a win with pick 69. Tough stand eh, I think they felt sorry for you.

I think you're wrong.

Pick 56 for 69 was offered at mediation. Effectively an upgrade on our 5th rounder - and a down grade on their 4th. Now we get a 4th rounder for free... 69/72 is drop in the ocean stuff.

I can't see how agreeing to trade a player that was ours to trade is "Freo shitting themselves". Strange logic you're employing... We got more out of them than they had originally wanted to give - and that from negotiating with a club over a player who was going there and nowhere else.

Young Robbie would have been shitting himself about the PSD thought way more than Bond / Harvey / Rosich were. They said - we think he's worth more than 24, we're not going to accept 24 on its own... and they didn't. But I bet Warnock wasn't too confident.

But that's by the way anyway... I just think you're wrong full stop.

You're an unlisted eagles flog, and by all accounts - from whichever way you look at it, that's just so very wrong.

VISY just fined 36 million for price fixing last year
- some quotes from the Justice in charge

"calculated and premeditated"
"worst cartel to come before the court in the 35 years since cartel behaviour has been illegal" in Australia.

"There cannot be any doubt that Mr Pratt also knew that the cartel, to which he gave his approval, and in which he has admitted to be knowingly concerned, was seriously unlawful,'' Justice Heerey said.

"There is also the factor that the cartel was to operate for Mr Pratt's personal benefit, via his ownership, or part ownership, of Visy. This was not the case of any employee action out of some misguided sense of corporate loyalty.''

Pratt admitted to sanctioning the arrangement.

Don't know if I would be talking up Dick Pratt if I was a Blues supporter ...I'd be in fear of God that he was doing something that if outside the laws of the game ...God help you as the AFL will hit you like a ton of bricks.

We all know what happened last time a loose cannon was in charge of you, ironically it was a Freo player you paid under the table that cost you so dearly.
