Let’s end this debate once and for all. Who would you prefer in the side, Shane Watson or Cameron White, and why?

I would prefer Watson, by a long way. Watson has a batting average of 30 which is respectable, and has 5 fifties. He is constantly bagged for being too slow however his strike rate is 72 which isn’t too bad. I do agree he struggles to close out innings as he is not an enforcer but he can build an innings if given time. His bowling average is 32, again not too bad. He has taken a wicket per match to this point of his career. He can be relied upon to bowl 10 overs, which can’t be said for White.

Cameron White’s ODI average is 17.80. Yes he’s got tremendous power and can finish an innings very well, but we’ve seen his struggles when he’s had to build an innings. His bowling is also extremely ordinary. His economy rate is 6.61, quite dreadful. You also cannot count on him bowling more than 3 or 4 overs a game. So basically he’s in the side as a specialist batsman; however his batting is not strong enough at this stage IMO.

So would you prefer in the Australian XI? Watson or White?

Watson at 7 is terrible. Its like having Simon Katich come in with 10 overs to go.

White easily.

Watson is showing here that he is a quality batsmen, but needs to come in in the middle order so he can have time to get in, then he can hit the ball, unfortunatly their is no spot their for him

These results are surprising, and completely ridiculous. With the answers people are giving you would think White was outstanding during the series, when he certainly was not.

White contribution for the series:

Batting: 45, 5, 5, 20*, 13, 1*. Average: 22.25
Bowling: 0/27, 1/22, 1/5, 0/6, 1/26, 0/26. Average: 37.33

Watson if he's going to play, to replace Hayden opening

Haddin at 7

White on the Pine

Love how people who struggle to mount quality arguments simply use extreme statements like 'Watson/White is much better than White/Watson', 'There's daylight between them', 'Watson/White is a dud' etc. Really can't see how one is obviously ahead of the other.

We don't have a great all-rounder option and Symonds will be a massive loss if he doesn't pull up. If Roy doesn't come up, I'd have Watson in due to his bowling. If Symonds makes it and is able to bowl, I would have neither in the side. Hode, even at 7, wouldl be a better option IMO. With Symonds in the side, batting is more important for out #7 position than bowling. I think Hodge is a superior batsman than Watson by a larger margin than Watson's a superior option to bowl 10 overs than combo of Symonds and Clarke.

Re: Watson or White - Who Would You Prefer?

I'd prefer each player was looked at on their merits and the side was picked accordingly. These two guys aren't similar and shouldn't be competing for a spot. If we field an XI in NZ with Watson at #2 or #3 and White at #7 I won't be too disappointed.

If I was picking an opener, I'd prefer Watson. If I was picking a slogger for #7, I'd prefer White. If I was picking someone to bowl between 5 and 10 overs, I'd prefer Watson.

Pointless poll, they aren't in competition for a spot.

I'd say White over Hogg.

It's amazing, before White got dropped everyone was saying it wasn't White's fault Hodd wasn't playing because they weren;t playing in the same spot

Suddenly they are again

On dead pitches at small grounds White's slogging at 7 is better value. The wickets will be too tame to need another steady innings builder. As far as bowling goes I don't think I'd be confident in either of them.

Watson easily, anyone who said otherwise must be a Victorian.

Im not and Watson sucks like a peice of ******** on the end of your shoe.

He is a mummies boy, cant bowl, bats like a girl and is a crap feilder.

Move Watson to 4 and get rid off Hodge when/if Symonds returns for the World Cup.
Why the hell owould you get rid of Hodge?

God, some people on this board seriously have NFI.

They actually are...

Or they at least should be.

Should be a straight swap. White in for Watson.

Hogg = Pure Bowler

Hogg was competing the pure fast bowlers for a place, not White, not Watson.

Haha, White taking Hogg's spot. Are you blokes serious?
