It was so good watching him yesterday - with everyone around us yelling, "Dick! Dick!" :D And we won't need to worry too much about his slight body - he's too quick and squirmy to get caught too often.

BTW Fu, you miss the point. This is clearly a praise thread. Pie eyed wouldn't waste his time saying "I told you so".
I dont mind if I get inundated with a plethora of 'I told you so's', it means we are finally doing something right onfield. But knocking off teams like Port and melb and Nth etc etc is showing me that we are still middle of the ladder, better than half the teams but not as good as the real top teams.

I expect us to win 3 or at least 2 of the next 3 games, Sydney will be the biggest test out of that lot, but all 3 games present dangers and they are games that we have easily lost to in the past because of our inconsistancy.

Until we methodically keep knocking them off and then knocking off the top 4 teams, we really are only where we were last year. Remember this is the year we are having a 'real crack' at it!

"Dick smashes Craquer ina a tackle" from the commentators on MMM brought a huge smile to my face.

Your not the only one smiling. I recall Rusty streaming down the wing with a cheeky grin, and again after he marked and before his shot at goal. :D

This thread is not an "I told you so whinge" because we had a win…...
Fair enough. You’re a genuine bloke and have reasoned views.
If we do win the next 3 games then what?
Then we will be back to square one but this board will be full of “I told you so” but in the end we won’t win the flag. Then it will all repeat next year...
I follow Collingwood to enjoy the wins not revel in the losses and my own opinion of them.
I follow Collingwood not to enjoy the wins or revel in the losses but I do enjoy the wins and sometimes I wallow in the losses. I am, and believe the club should be, well and truly past H&A wins and losses that amount to a battling side that plays above itself but is never good enough. We’ve been that for 50 years. A win or a loss here doesn’t change that. Culture, accountability and honesty change that. Collingwood hasn’t been honest with itself for decades.

If we win the next 3 games it only shows that we havent beaten any of the real contenders and amplifies that even moreso. Lets knock off a real good team ( maybe even a few more) and THEN start saying ' I told you so'

Or we have 3 good moral boosting wins we should have and it puts us in shape to give the next side a good "rasping".

There is no such thing as a bad win. Even if the wheels fall off and we stumble across the line.

Wins would be very good for MM's possible reappointment and if he is winning and we do make the 4 this complicates things for some though.

...including for Bucks. If Mick makes the 4 that might vindicate an extension, but that's a way off yet.

I reckon most would be happy to eat humble Pie if we get within chomping distance of the raspberry and Mick shows some more flex which I reckon he has. I note that recently Brad Scott says the non run thru the middle and taking the game on is a question of player confidence rather thsan deliberate tactics from the coaching dept which is good to know.

Something I agree with fully and always said comes with maturity and familiarity with a settled and regular line up.

I don’t see why. We made a prelim. 2 years ago and lost in ways we have previously lost grand finals. If we make the last 4 this year where have we actually gone?

I really can’t see how an extension can be justified. The fact we aren’t going to win the flag is all you really need to know. If we aren’t going to win it this year, how are we going to be good enough next year and how then is a dozen years of coaching going to turn into a flag in the foreseeable future?

All a top 4 finish does is put pressure on the president’s leadership and the capacity of he and the board to get off the safe track and make the calls that will bring the flags.

I will be more than happy to eat a whole humble pie if we win the flag. I’ll eat half a pie if we get beaten by Geelong in the GF because they are simply a great side at present. Anything else is just more of the same.

I note that we have played the same way for a decade. Whether it is tactics, player talent or player confidence it hasn’t worked and it is therefore poor coaching.

The reality is MM is well known for coaching his players to go wide from defence, stay wide and then come in late. We don’t have an AA half back line and Mainwaring and Kemp on the wings.

We have to have a pass mark for the coach. IMO we need to up the anti though. It can't be same for half a decade!

The very best professional teams dont need morale boosting wins. They let game plans, skills and systems do their talking week after week. It seems that so many supporters are happy for other factors like luck and the stars aligning against the good teams for us to reach that elusive prize. Thats not the way to enter finals, its not relying our own competencies.

People need to get it thru their heads that we are not close to being good enough and that relying on other teams to falter rather than us grab the prize on our own accord is not going to get us anywhere. To match the geelongs of this league, we need to be where they are at in terms of list, game plan, skills and confidence. Beating the ports and Nths of this world isnt where we need to be. Beating the Geelongs, Hawthorns, carltons and St's of this world is where we need to be consistantly and we havent been at that level for 6 years.

So you are saying confidence plays no part in good sides maintaining a winning record?
That is simply dumb. Sorry. but I would think every sports psychologist on earth would disagree with you. At the elite level confidence can be the determining factor. In a team sport moral is extremely important.

Confidence is important, but it shouldnt come from beating port, it should come from beating Geelong. Now that is something you would take something from.

To bad we didn't get much confidence when we beat Geelong by 86 points last year.
We did come out and flog West Coast the following week by 100+. But then got pushed by Melb the week after. Confidence is fleeting, especially when your systems are tenuous in the face of prssure

But in the context of this year, we already know we arent the worst, what we also know is that the gap is widening between us and the very top teams as evidenced by geelong being 100+ points better than last year and St Kilda being much better than last year when we did beat them twice. Yesterday would be a confidence booster if only for the fact that they were beaten in the first half and came out a different side after half time and crushed an insipid Port.

Real confidence would be in the form of beating top teams regularly.
