**** you're good, sirengate. i missed this and it's great that the media is voicing the stupidity of this outside of the factionalism of both sides.

Well that's another interesting angle. And a very apt one. How could you not get 40,000 at Etihad to a game between two and three? You'd probably say it's the biggest interstate rivalry for both clubs as well. A real farce. "Piss poor."

We've really had some great support in this issue. Melbourne-based radio station fighting for us; the Worst calling it farcical.

Still hasn't helped.

I'm not sure of how it plays out in terms of fairness - I can certainly see the AFL perspective - but either way, I'm enjoying it. :) :p

How would you like Geelong to finish 2nd and north 3rd and have to play at Simmons. Better yet freo finish 2nd and north 3rd and freo advise the afl that freo oval can have temp seating installed to fit 35k, north have limited support so play the final at freo oval - this is also only considered a week before the game is played....now tell me you can see the afl's perspective!!!!

bravo again Sirengate.

Finey summed it up perfectly and hopefully this creates a little more awareness of the occasional ineptitude at AFL house - bunch of a** clowns.

Well said.

However, the AFL are well aware that they could get 45-50,000, it was just the pathetic spin they used to justify the move to Geelong.

Thank God for Finey.
There has been a fair bit of support on our side over here actually. Even uber-flogs in Eddie & Carey have ridiculed this last minute change.

What you will "find" is that the AFL will making more money playing at K park than the Dome.

Anyway, I think that it fired up our team and we will win the game and earn alot of respect.

Freo to charter flight

"We've hopefully secured a charter flight on the way to the game," Rosich said.
"That will leave at our desired time at 3pm on Thursday. That's been a large part of the focus since that decision has been made."

The charter flight will either land at Melbourne or Avalon airport.

Some good commentary - on the AFL website no less!

The last line for you Seppo!

Money, not merit, decides the finals
The AFL's line that Geelong has 'earned' the right to host Fremantle at Simonds Stadium next Saturday is baloney. The league doesn't care about the integrity of the Cats' draw or the economic windfall the qualifying final will supposedly bring to the city of Geelong. By the league's own admission, if the Cats had drawn a club besides the Dockers in the first week of the finals, the game would have been played in Melbourne. So why not just admit that it's all about money?
Fremantle and their fans have kicked up a stink about the AFL's last-minute switcheroo, and they have some right to. The decision is transparently inconsistent, and on top of that the league has the gall to talk up Geelong's claims to a home final at the Cattery, despite having previously ruled out such an idea.
There's one way to make this right and that is to allow the precedent to continue. But if Fremantle do the unlikely and beat the Cats on their own turf, do you think the Magpies will be heading down the Princes Freeway for a semi-final? Of course not, the league will do far better business staging that game at the 'G. But what about Geelong's right to a home final? Hmm, oh yeah.
Lyon's gamble was smarter than it looked
Fremantle coach Ross Lyon narrowly avoided being scorched by his own members when Brisbane fell to Geelong by one point on Saturday. Had the Lions gotten up it would have been dressed up as a huge embarrassment for the Dockers, who were belted by St Kilda after resting half of their best 22. But let's be honest – the Lions would've never run the Cats so close had Geelong known that they needed a win to lock up their top-two spot. The progress score from Etihad Stadium was on view at the Cattery and the hosts eased off accordingly.
Andrew Demetriou castigated the Dockers for tanking against the Saints, but he was coming at the issue like a concerned parent. From a player management perspective, it was a winner. Back-to-back travel is what killed the Dockers in last year's finals series, and Lyon would have learned from that experience. He will also be aware that Fremantle's first final will effectively decide if they have any shot at winning the premiership, so he's going all guns blazing at Geelong in an attempt to manoeuvre a home preliminary final. It's a smart play.
Ironically, had the Dockers fielded a full-strength side and lost a Nat Fyfe or Michael Walters to injury, the coach would’ve faced accusations of negligence for trotting out his best men in a meaningless game. Faced with one of two negative outcomes, damaging the integrity of the competition or copping a key injury on the eve of the finals, the Dockers went the selfish route. We can't say we blame them.
Stray thoughts:
- Jesse Crichton has the worst head in the AFL.
