Fremantle squad: Peter Bell 32, Andrew Browne 36, Adam Campbell 24, Josh Carr 2, Matthew Carr 9, Troy Cook 10, Ryan Crowley 15, Steven Dodd 25, Marcus Drum 30, Paul Duffield 41, Jeff Farmer 33, Daniel Gilmore 27, Antoni Grover 14, Paul Hasleby 4, Roger Hayden 43, Des Headland 11, Michael Johnson 37, Justin Longmuir 20, Shaun McManus 8, Luke McPharlin 18, David Mundy 16, Ryan Murphy 28, Matthew Pavlich 29, Brett Peake 7, Aaron Sandilands 31, Dean Solomon 6, James Walker 19, Luke Webster 1.

Essentially the only difference from round 1 is:

Omission: Ibbotson Dunn
Inclusions: Bell Cook

Pav probably won't play all four games, he'll certainly have a rest if we get knocked out. They may decide to play him in the semi and final if we get that far to get some chemistry with Tarrantula, but all our big names will continue to spend plenty of time on the bench.

Still four to be dropped from th squad.

I'd definitely like to see Pav play in the game that Tarrant is expected to be selected for. The complete forward line in fact. Before then, I'd rest Longmuir, Farmer and Pavlich.

I would like to see one other ommission:
M Pavlich.

Give the other guys a chance to shine and Pav a rest

What and deprive the plebs of their time in the presence of a superstar??

:D

I thought Cookie was being rested for another week. Be good to see him come in, always love to see Cookie giving out a few unexpected hits, crunching a few unsuspecting bodies, and thriving at the bottom of a pack. :thumbsu:

And here's what CC said about the game / pre-season comp:

Bell, Cook return for Kangas clash

Veterans Peter Bell and Troy Cook have been named in a 28-man squad for Fremantle’s NAB Cup quarter final against the Kangaroos at Telstra Dome on Sunday.

The pair have been added to the 26 that played in last weekend’s 37-point opening round win against West Coast. The squad will be trimmed to 24 on Sunday with six players permitted on the interchange bench throughout the pre-season competition.

Fremantle Senior Coach Chris Connolly says he’s looking forward to a tough match against the Kangaroos, who commenced their pre-season training in early-October and were impressive 51-point winners over Collingwood at Carrara last Friday night.

“If confidence comes from preparation, they’ve certainly done the longest preparation and we understand they will go in with a lot of confidence,” Connolly said.

“We’ll have to be at our very best, but we’ve got a lot of confidence with our preparation too. We know we’re a lot fitter than last season, we’ve got a mature group, and it’s very difficult at match committee to come up with a team and give everyone an opportunity that deserves one.”

Connolly refused to talk about the prospect of winning the NAB Cup or even of a possible home semi-final next week, saying all of the focus is on the Kangaroos this week.

“People talk about premierships, well, as Wayne Carey says, you only talk about premierships when you make a Grand Final, and we’re a long way off that. We’re going to keep it that simple,” he said.

“The most important thing to us is that winning is a key component to confidence and supports all your efforts across the pre-season. So we came out of Sunday night’s game with a lot of confidence, but there were still a lot of aspects we knuckled down this week to focus on.

“The number one aim for us in the pre-season is to make sure come round one of the regular season everyone has got the volume of work under their belt to make sure their bodies can deal with the rigours of a season.”

New recruit Chris Tarrant remains on track for his first hit-out in Fremantle colours next week, while Shane Parker has been given another week’s rest and is also due to play his first game of the pre-season next week.

1987 - the age of the mullet and didn't Chris have a bewdy!! :D

I liked the comment he made, "Yeah the win by the boys has given me a bigger hit than all the morpheine I've been getting." :D :thumbsu: :D

Funny man. :thumbsu:

In 1987 when Melbourne won the pre-season cup, CC had done his knee the week before and had gone in for surgery the day of the game (a night game). They interviewed him (complete with a curly mullet that would have almost rivalled Buddha Hocking's) in hospital the next day with the cup lying next to him in the hospital bed (typical "tug the heart-strings" story). He said that despite not playing he had felt a part of the winning team, and then he said, "the win by the boys.....morpheine" part, with a big grin on his face, despite the bandages and having missed out.

Then the journo obviously asked him about it in the post-training interview today, and he laughed and said, "I'd done m' knee, and the game was on the Tuesday night, and I went in before the game and when I came out, I asked, "what happened", and they said, "we won", and I said, (wryly) "Oh good"...."

Everyone laughed... :D

The angle of the story was "Why Freo want to win the NAB Cup". It was a bit of a long bow, but along the lines of Chris has already missed out on one, now's the chance to get it for him. His reply was, "like Wayne Carey said, you never think of a premiership until you're in the Grand Final, and we're a long way from that at this stage". I think he was referring to the season-proper, but they made it sound like he was referring to the nabber.

Channel seven said that we were holding nothing back and would have our best side on the park this weekend. They've obviously forgotten about our "boom recruit".

geez channel 7 love reving it up don't they :)

i'd of loved to see that channel 10 interview.

Oh well.. bring on the kanga's I say! be good practise at the dome.

Shame about Ibbo and Dunn. They played so well last week.
Note tou youngsters. I'm joking.

Have a look through that squad and tell me who you leave out. Might as well put the names on the wall and throw darts at it. Even Daniel Gilmore seems worthy of holding his place.

The other thing is this is big team. Like huge. 20 years ago you wer ebig if you were 6 foot 3 -- 188cm. This squad has 15 players over 188. I think we have 12 players 190 cm or over -- Pavlich, Mundy, Murphy, Drum, M. Carr, Sandi, Jlo, Campbell, Dodd, Carr, Johnno, McPharlin. Then Gilmour, Solomon, Crowley. Add in a couple of solid bodies in Webster, Cook and Duffield.

Think Essendon, Brisbane and Port sides in premierships in the Noughties, and you can see where I'm going with this.

salivating at the thought.... :thumbsu:

Pretty stoked about this squad and puts beyond doubt now how serious the lads are taking this comp. To tell the truth guys I am kinda sick of some clubs cheapening this comp by not taking it seriously but to me silverware is silverware no matter the comp . Whether it be the London Challenge or "That" big day in September , If I was a player with any pride in my club , I'd want my club to be out in front everytime !!!

Are you joking about Dunn and Ibbo or Gilmore Ralph? Collard, Ibbotson, Dunn, Mourish and O'Brien are the only players on the senior list I rate behind Gilmore in the batting order.

If Gilmore plays the first 2 games and Cook doesn't I'll be pis*ed off.

My team would be:

FF: Farmer Murphy Longmuir
HFF: Crowley Pavlich Solomon
C: Headland Hasleby Peake
HBF: Mundy Johnson Dodd
FB: Hayden McPharlin Grover

R: Sandilands JCarr Browne

I: Bell Cook Duffield Drum Webster Walker

Missing out: MCarr & Macca (older players can have a rest), Gilmore (average player) and Campbell (unlucky).

Dom, what part of "I'm joking" seems unclear?

That wooshing sound you can hear is not the sea. Its my point rushing past past your head.

To rephrase, we have such depth now that even a player like Gilmour who is rated by Dom as really low on our list appears to be able to make a decent contribution at senior level.
