Universal Love Welcome Sam Gibson :)

Mackay is ready made for the role. He's so versatile. Can play anywhere. Seedsman is only a wingman. Couldn't possibly play half back flank; he's never played there. It's only Mackay. If Seedsman can't get a spot on the wing, I guess he'll be in the SANFL. Couldn't fill another role. But Mackay? He's a lock.
Seedsman might not have played much half back with us but he certainly played there on occasions for the Pies both in the AFL and VFL.....and went OK too.

From his AFC Bio :
Seedsman became a Crow in the 2015 Trade Period after playing 49 games with Collingwood. The long-kicking half-back/wingman made a strong start to Season 2015 playing 10 of the Magpies’ first 12 games, most notably winning the Anzac Medal for his 31-possession, 14 inside 50m and one goal performance against Essendon in Round Four. Quick and skilful, Seedsman appears a perfect fit for Adelaide which identified outside speed as a priority ahead of the 2016 season. He was originally recruited with pick No.76 in the 2010 National Draft.

Unfortunately this is 100% true

Always a few unknowns going into a new season but one we can take to the bank is that D-Mac will get first crack at filling Brodie Smith's position.

Yep. You're right Scorpus. Good points.

Yes, DFA.

Who have we brought in to replace Lever and Cameron? Why would we want to have the same game plan? The existing game plan didn't cut the mustard when it counted. Instead of trying to find players to fill the holes left when players are injured or move on, the coaching panel should be creating winning plans utilising the resources at their disposal. Gibbs and possibly Gibson coming in will already change the on field dynamic.

Wellingham has had 1 good season at WC since he left Collingwood. That was in 2015, the year WC made the GF. He has also struggled with injury and form at various and sometimes extensive stages since his departure from Collingwood.
I'd argue that it had nothing to do with game plan and all to do with execution.

With hindsight I should have left the "game" out of the comment and just used plan. Seems there were several areas like selection, player head space etc that also could be argued played a part. Reflecting on the season, with new players and coaches coming in, a few best 22 players and coaches leaving I'd expect there to be change.

The comments originally was more specifically about Wellingham though. I don't see much value picking him up as a DFA. Others do.

Whether it's Milera, Clark through the draft, or a DFA we really need to add to our defensive skill/rebound.

No point have an awesome transition capacity as shown last year when we don't replace some of the key elements that allowed it to happen!
Personally I would utilise Milera's elite kicking skills & rotate Douglas, Gibbs & Sloane off a HBF at times.

Agree we need another good ball user coming off HBF.

For whatever reason we don't see Seedsman as a defender at all. Never even used him in that role if a defender went down during a game.
Seedsman moved to a HBF in the 2nd half of the Collingwood game, with Otten moving forward, as our defence was too slow... & we all know what happened...

He’s a talented kid just delisted by a team with an ageing list in need of speed

What about that indicates his well publicised issues are behind him?
Are we talking about Wellingham still?

One of the main reasons he got delisted is that he’s aging too, he’s 29, turning 30 in June. He’s talented, but by no means a kid

Stop guessing ;)

Wellingham is seriously outside his age was certainly not one of the main reasons for his delisting; his style will age very well

his application however... has seen him stagnate

We don’t really have any concrete proof of that either though? There’s been no uproar about his application in recent times, from what I can see

The reason for his poor end of season form was that his body was failing him due to lack of continuity

Wellingham a replacement for Smith - huh- you on drugs. Anyone see his performance in the gf a few years ago. It was Douglas like bad.

IMO Wellingham's delisting not a age decision as 29 is not over the hill and it's more likely to do with his body, he has struggled with that ankle injury

As a player I do believe he has talent however has been hampered by injury and continuity and our level of interest will come back to Pykey as he would have direct knowledge of Wellingham as a player during his time at WCE

No uproar about his commitment and professionalism I.e. his application?

Are you serious?

we might as well be talking about Wayne rumplestiltskin for as much sense as this makes

Anyway I’m not going to keep discussing a player you’re unfamiliar with

Sam Gibson wants to take on tagging role in Adelaide Crows’ midfield

ADELAIDE recruit Sam Gibson has put his hand up for the role of the club’s specialist tagger after impressing since he arrived from North Melbourne. Gibson, 31, was the front runner in the club’s time trial and his tank has impressed at West Lakes since he was picked up after being dropped by the Kangaroos. He has a voracious appetite for hard work and thrives during the gruelling pre-season running. And he was not opposed to sacrificing his own game to quell opposition stars if coach Don Pyke gave him that assignment. Gibson predicted the role of the tagger would never be phased out of the game. “I think it will always exist,” Gibson said. “I mean there are players in the competition who have the ability to tear games apart and if you can negate those players and help your side win the game I think there’s always a role there. “It’s something I’ve done in the past and it’s something I’m comfortable with.
“If Don came to me and said that’s the role we want you to play, well then I would be happy to play it if that’s going to help the team.” Gibson, who has the game’s longest streak without missing the game with 130 in a row, said he was open to playing anywhere. The key to remaining in the game was to be versatile rather than a one-trick pony. “I’m a running player so I’d like to play in the midfield but the one thing about modern footy is that you’ve got to be versatile,” Gibson said. “With 18-man defences these days it helps if you have a few strings to your bow.

We didn't bring him in to play reserves so I'll be interested to see if we do use him as a run-with player.

We seemingly loathe to do it for the most part.

Except we started playing some of our best football against top teams later in the season when we did implement the tactic.

I am not convinced that we will tag every week but I think we will do it against teams that have quality, match winning type of midfielders (i.e. Geelong, Richmond, Sydney etc..)

It took Don that long to break Campo.
