To harvey and the football department, well done on a good trade week me thinks!

I was sad to see both players go as they both have potential. they do however lack the one thing we need at our club - HEART.

Great to see that all the rumours of getting the likes of Lovett or Davis etc etc were put to bed.

Great stuff that the club has stuck to its guns and only getting draft picks to continue to build the club. If we have another draft half as good as last year i think 2011/12 will be very good for us!

You reckon?

I think we got bent over a barrel and rogered with a carrot, turnip and a potato!

Ok we got two picks for two players that wanted out when we could have got zero, but 48 and 49!!!

Teams were trading 2nd rounders left right and centre, i think Drum was worth one of these at least the low 30's.

Is Harvey directly involved in the trading or do we have specific guys who take care of it? Was it the same guys that did it last year?

Having had my rant, I still think this was better trading than when cuddles was around. As you say, at least they have gone for draft picks.

Can't say I'm overly enthused by how it all went down.

Peake... meh happy to get something for him. He's been a bit of a cancer and too inconsistent. He can play but probably never would have been any good staying with us.

Drum... Not happy with this at all. He can play and was worth more than 49, would have liked to get the pick Geelong got for Mumford for him (28 I think).

However we clearly stated we wanted picks inside the top 50 so we must think there's some talent that will still be around with those picks. Maybe we will look at some mature aged WAFL players if the draft is so shallow plus you never know who will slide.

I'm doing cartwheels over losing to seasoned players for picks in the late 40's.

I'm sure we can snare the next Copping or Stribling with those prized picks.

No way would I consider it a ‘well done job’ – I would call it just below par. OK, we didn’t exactly have stars on offer, but in a week were lots of clubs were looking to do deals and add depth to their squads, we should have been able to do a little better than 48 & 49 in a well publicised shallow draft. As for other stuff, we didn’t seem at all in the mix with some of the other deals that we could have got in on such as the Lovett and Dalziel deals.

We didn’t finish trade week with Drum going to PSD and Peake on the books when he didn’t want to be, but that’s about it – all considered I’d give us a C- grade at best.

I'd say we were boned as well. Kept up the tradition of buying high selling low.
Not really avoidable unfortunately, Caught having to offload dissatisfied players and pretty much having to take anything for them. :(

Exactly, Geelong will see a whole heap of guys retire next year so this is really their last crack at it. St. Kilda are in the same boat with their A graders on the wrong side of 27.

What makes me turgid in my purple juices is that Drum may take up "Seagull" Harley's role and receive undeserved ex-FFC kudos.

The only hope I have is that we picked Broughton with pick 155. Each pick we get is a chance.

The aim is to build a team that can win a premiership.
Picks 48-49 may not get us that.
Peake and Drum, definitely won't

Agree Lach.

It was a good trading week not because of what we received for Drum and Peake but that trade week is done and dusted and we still have picks 4, 20 & 36 in our keeping - with no mature age players traded in for short term gain.

Drum was gone anyway and a few of us have purple tinted glasses on ...I would of liked to have got more for Drum but he was walking. This however does not mean he is going to be a star - he could be Dunn Mk II.

The club is still on this rebuilding phase road and have stuck to that this draft.

I'd say we failed big time with the Drum trade.

Fremantle failed developing Drum. As far as trades go, we pretty much got what he was worth.

Drum played about 20 so-so games with maybe 2 stand-out's, one good (kicking 4 goals against Adelaide) and one bad (Westhoff kicking 4 goals on him against Port). Drum's average numbers (both WAFL and AFL), poor injury record and limited potential (absolute best case he's a 2nd tall) scream 3rd round draft pick to me. The only reason we hoped for more was because of his initial cost.

You can't write-off a Porsche then trade it back to the dealer for the same price you initially paid.

Spot on. Being the last uncompromised draft we couldnt afford to lose players for nothing and still be drafting in the 80's. I think 6 picks up to 52 is OK as long as our recruiters do the right thing.

I hope we are looking at reworking the Player Development at our club cause we suck at it.

Drum/Peake will both have great years next year and we'll be coping it.

Simon Lloyd was brought over to help with the new Fremantle Development Academy that we're apparently starting up.
