Just wanted to know if we finish between 8 - 11 what would our draft position be?. Would we get some good selections? Been hearing that this years draft runs pretty deep any ideas people?

We could get anything between picks 6-9/10(depending on the end of year win tally). So hopefully with this is mind, below are my opinions on who we get at what pick if the ones above them are taken (if you get my drift) NB: Forget about Watts, Naitanui, Rich or even Hartlett:

Pick 6: John Butcher
Pick 7: Hurley
Pick 8: Zaharakis
Pick 9: Shoenmacher (spelling)
Pick 10: Sidebottom/Roughead

Any of these guys would be fantastic, especially John Butcher, he is tall, great hands, accurate kick for goal and very athletic. He goes very hard at the ball and is great in a contested situation.

We need to fill our forward line void, especially CHF, I know we have some players there that can fill that, but their not ready or don't look the goods/right person for the job at AFL level. I think Butcher or Roughead can fill this for us with a a good season under their belt!

We have an OK back line, so Hurley would be a fantastic get to bolster the 6 man defence!

But then again, this is IMHO!

I wouldn't mind Hurley whats your thoughts on him? Have heard some good things about him. Some people are saying he could go top 4? Seems to be ideal for what we need?

He's not available this year.

We should get a top 10 selection, and without knowing who would select who, we could get anyone from:

Hurley
Hartlett
Ziebell
Lisle
Yarran
Cornelius
Zaharakis

Forget about Naitanui, Watts and Rich. They'll be long gone.

Any background on the kids

Hurley is pretty much the premier full back of the TAC, big bodied and AFL ready although his speed is probably the only thing lacking in his game. Reads the play well along with the flight of the ball and rarely have I seen him get mopped up!

HBF mentioned that John Butcher won't be available for this draft (my apologies) but is there a possibility that we could get him through as a rookie or anything? He looked so good at the dome when he kicked 5!!!

Watts, Naitanui, Rich & Hartlett are my definate top 4!

We really need to look for KP Forwards, even Vickerey looks the goods as a ruck/forward type option (predominantly big forward), he's skinny, but at 200cms and they way he can take a mark and chase the ball.....he's gonna be so damn good. His agility is also on the scale of awesome.

Even stricter age requirements in the rookie draft (have to be 18 by April next year to be eligible for the National Draft, must be 18 by December 31st to be eligible for the rookie draft). Butcher won't be playing at AFL level in 2009.

Regarding Vickerey do you think he would fall down to us in the draft? The more I read and hear about this draft I can't help but think we should try and trade aggressively? But he does sounds good 200cm and can get the ball, we do need to start finding a replacement for Fev

Hurley - KP Gun. Will play CHB/CHF at AFL level. May be a little undersized though at 192cm.

Hartlett - Silky mid with some tricks. Very much in the Bryce Gibbs mould

Ziebell - Tough as they come utility. Can play anywhere. Great penetration with his kicking

Lisle - 196cm KPP. Played at CHF on Saturday, and CHB on Wednesday. A great prospect

Yarran - Mid/Small Forward at 180cm. Silky silky skills.

Corenlius. A Brad Fisher type, but a more reliable kick.

Zaharakis - Speedy wingman who can kick goals

HBF are you of the opinion that we should try and get KP players? Or do we maybe need one more mid? Seems like there are quite a few good young big men in the draft and some might slip down the order?

I believe Vickerey will go Top 20, It just depends on what the generals at Carlton believe would be a strategic pick for our team.

Vickerey needs to put on some body mass to become a good power forward, but with his height, it will def be an advantage to which ever team he goes to. Hopefully he comes to our club!

Well I am on your court when it comes to who we should be drafting. I think we need KP players we have mids and smaller types. But we are sorely lacking in the big bodies that we need at FF, CHF, FB and CHB. We need to trade very aggressively so we can hopefully raise our drft position.

Watched the Vic Metro Vs W.A game and couldnt be more impressed with Hurley... If we could snap him up that would bepretty special. His skills are amazing on either side... I saw him kick 50m on both feet and hitting targets easily... May be a bot short at 192, but i would have thought that he would be taken by the time our pick comes.

Yarran could be another O'Keefe, Murphy/ Johnson type player... skills aplenty, agro... and quick... Wouldnt mind him either...

McKernan didnt impress me at all... I dont know what it is, maybe his kicking action or his lankinness, havent quite worked it out yet...

It largely depends on what we do during trade week. If we could get another tall target, then I would most certainly go for best available. I have a couple of favourites from this year, and one of them is Jordan Lisle. A real crash and bash type, 196cm, and can play at either end.

Another thing to consider is what the club is going to do with Jarrad Waite next year. Aside from Waite, we have Jamison, Thornton, Bower, Carlos all player senior footy, and we have Austin coming through showing some good signs. Chances are, Waite could quite easily go back to the forward line.
