If a high proportion of Australians embrace the tracing app, and it ends up being super effective, I wonder if it will lead to crowds being allowed to some extent earlier than expected, perhaps having stadiums at a fraction of capacity and mandatory face masks for all attendees. The effectiveness would need to be well beyond expectations, and we'd probably need to be under 100 active cases. And maybe I'm being too hopeful, but I do wonder.
WA, SA and VIC are on track to be at 0 cases in a month or so. I wouldn't be surprised to see crowds back in September or maybe even August

South Aust down to 20 active cases
Victoria and WA fighting for 2nd place, with 52 and 55 respectively

I said in another thread, Victoria's active numbers have been halving every week.

Will be interesting to see how some players go living away from home in the hubs etc for so long , especially players with newborns/ young kids , i bet some struggle on field because of it .

Based on some players’ comments how many won’t go at all I wonder ?

Each to their own but it looks like it might only be for 8 weeks tops with a lot of support from the AFL. It’s not like these guys would be leaving partners on their own for years like theyre going off to a war or anything ?

Anyway it’s a much more sensitive and personally focussed world so there’ll be those who will and those who won’t I guess.

Yeah I wouldn’t leave my wife with a newly born baby for 8 weeks , I get why some players may not want to do it .

they literally heard the complaints from players on this topic and said that close family can be allowed to join the players on compassionate grounds such as these.

Wonder how those women in ww1 and ww2 and Vietnam war ever coped ? Maybe not a great bow to be drawing from but you get my point.

Perhaps more relevant, I don’t think you have to leave partners behind necessarily anyway. AFL seems to be providing hub access and support.

Doesn't seem they could be doing much more to get these guys playing and paid and with support for families included. Just me personally, but if I were an AFL player I’d be pretty thankful actually.

Lol comparing war to footy , rightio.

Huh ? No I’m saying wives partners had to cope with being on their own for a long long time and because of a much bigger issue. Ergo this is a very short time period which you seem to be acknowledging ? Don’t get your problem ?

Lol if Shemons win first flag in 60+ years and there’s no fans to watch at the game , no celebrating before , after the match . Imagine the GF parade lol , maybe AFL can dress dummy’s up in club colours and place them lined up down the streets .

I just get the feeling that the flag will be won by a really weird team out of the blue to cap off a crazy year and it’ll be just like it never really happened, then next season they’ll be crap again.
I’m so bloody glad we aren’t still in a drought.. could you imagine?
I can see a Saints, a Norf or a Bombers or something.

Yes thank **** our drought is gone , 2 flags in 3 years fantastic . That’s what I’m saying imagine winning the flag this year on a drought lol .

Melbourne, St Kilda and Essendon have about as much chance of winning the flag as drinking bleach does of curing coronavirus. It'll be us, West Coast, GWS or the skunks. It's still football, not tattslotto.
I reckon anything could happen in a pretend season where you’re cramming games in just to get a season in.

Heard a reasonable argument last week that clubs with new coaches and/or new game plans eg Saints, Freo, Arsendon won’t, maybe, have the time they’d normally have to bed in and get familiar with new styles etc and therefore would be at a disadvantage versus the clubs like Richmond, WCE etc that have entrenched and proven game styles, roles etc. that everyone’s already got trust and faith in. Who knows.

I feel like I’ve lost that much interest that it doesn’t matter. Maybe it’ll change if games get going but i have pretty much just put a line through 2020

I’ll be happy with a return - without crowds and in any format. Better than nothing I guess.

But I agree with you, the level of change makes it all a bit rubbery at this stage. For sure.
