Which Team has the Brightest Future?

Which team do you think has the brightest future. Well I'd say Collingwood because they are the youngest side in the competion but play well above their age. Please post your opinions.

Port Adelaide because they are just the greatest club ever. Plus we also have young strong marking fowards in Tredrea, Cornes and hopefully Lockwood who will dominate the AFL for the next 10 seasons. We also have a quick young exciting midfield and when we get Lade back from injury he along with French and Primus will give Port 3 of the best ruckmen in the league. And I'm not just saying this because I'm a Port supporter, Im saying it because it's true.

I'd definately have to agree with everyone on here saying that Port Adelaide and Collingwood have the best young players and will be a finals side for the next 3 years in a row (very bold prediction by GoEagles). Essendon keep producing the kids when needed also, unless injuries/trades get to them in 2002, they will be playing on the last Saturday of September next year as well.

Fremantle have the brightest future by far! They'll get some priority draft picks, to build on their promising young list. Give this group of players 2-3 seasons...i'd expect them to be a force within 5 years...providing they don't fiddle with their list.

Their list oozes potential...hate to see that potential wasted.

Exactly if its not already strong at the moment potential wise it will only get stronger.
Even if we loose Pavlich like has been widely touted, the crows will pay more than he is worse.
This along with picks 1 and 4 in the draft, and the potential to draft a out of contract player, means that we would have to have the most potential side in the afl.

Yes Fremantle has had a "potential" side for quite a while, but believe it or not this time is difference.Players like Haselby,Brown,Pavlich,Longmuir,Black,walker and McPhee dont come along very often and are the nucleus of a very good side.
Not to mention Bell who is still only 25 and I dare say hasnt reached his peak.
This along with the best youngster on offer,and lessons learnt from the past.

You want a team of potential, dont look past Fremanlte.

It's pretty hard to tell with something like this.

I mean there have been heaps of players touted as future guns at 18-19-20 who fizzled, while there has been many who were seen as a run of the mill player untill after those ages when they really developed.

Look at the last 6 or 7 No 1 picks - how many have gone on, or look like going on to Carey-like Careers? Not many.

However, on paper Freo do like they have exciting times ahead, as do Collingwood. The only thing that worries me with the pies in Fraser - I hope he doesnt get burned out at a young age because he has been thrown to the wolves at a very young ages, he isnt fully developed and has been getting hit a bit. He is a gun at the moment, and lets hope he isnt one of those fizzas.

Not trying to be biased, but I think Essendon has to be seen as at least a threat for a while. I mean many times this year we have fielded very young sides and they have come out and produced the goods. Also guys like the Johnsons, Lloyd, Solomon, Rioli, Blumfield, Caracella, Lucas, Heffernan and Ramanauskas are all 24 or under! They arnt considered our 'young' players either, with guys like Jacobs, Henneman, Bolton, Hille, Forster-Knight, Mcveigh, Peverill and Bullen (gonna be a gun!) there etc!

Essendon have the brightest future for the next five years. They not only have a nucleas in Lloyd, Hird, Jonson, etc they have enough good second tier players to trade to ensure they get enough younger players coming through.

Fremantle do not have enough experienced players to be anything for at least 5 years.

Collingwood only have one good future player and that is Tarrant. The rest are just footballers.

Port Adelaide have peaked and are playing above themselves this year. Bottom 4 next year.

Hawthorn. Athletes, but to soft to win a flag in the next 5 years.

Dogs, Carlton, Swans, Eagles, Geelong, Adelaide, Stkilda, Melbourne - absolutely nothing, gone; just filling up numbers for next 5 years.

Richmond - potential good forward setup but no crumbers, midfield or backline. As above filling up numbers.

Brisbane - Should win a premiership in the next 5 years but won't because they don't know how to and have no backline.

North - will be middle of the road for next 3 years and then will be competition leader from 2004 onwards when 2000 draft picks have 2 to 3 years behind them.

Agree, unless you get draft picks 1 to about 8, from 9 to 40 and then 40 to 100 is just a lottery.

How many of todays top players were picked at greater than 40 - Hird, Grant, Pickett, Tarrant, Voss, etc, etc, etc.

Getting 1 early draft pick really makes stuff all difference. It is the club environment and coaching that makes difference. Compare Essendon, Carlton and North over the last 10 years compared to Collingwood, Brisbane, StKilda.

I beg to differ, Lloyd and Hird are good, but without them Essendon are of a Richmond standard i.e scrape in for the occasionally arsey win.

Fraser and Nick Davis and Tarrant will be within the top 10 players in the LEAGUE within 2 seasons or so.

Haselby Longmuir Pavlich Draft pick 1 2001 : Top line youth
Brown Black Walker Draft pick 4 2001 : Second line Youth


You have your top 3 then a cliff to your next 3.
My top 3 arnt far behind what you have there.
Frasher is ahead of longmuir (marginally)
Tarant and Pavlich are on par
Haselby is ahead of Davis (though diff players, hard to compare but value wise haselby is ahdead)

Because of Frasher I would say your top 3 are ahead but only just.Overall Fremantles under 21 is ahead.

2. Fraser marginally ahead of Longmuir? Id think more than that
(not to mention Josh has that something special, the ability to kick checkside goals from the boundary, dont think Longmuir has this)
3. Is Pavlich 3rd in the goalkicking list?

If your going to compare them make sure you put them in the right areas.

Longmuir vs Frasher (Like i said Frasher is ahead at the moment, its still my opinion in 10 years they would have been the most dominant ruckman of the time and both in the same league)

Pavlich vs Tarant (Where talking pontential wise here, and you cant use a goal kicking ladder, specially with Fremanltes fortunes this year,even potential wise)

Haselby vs Davis (Your kidding right, haselby is a strong mark and the makings of the next harvey, extremely consistent, davis is a pinch pocket player, no comparison here)

McPhee vs Lockyer (Lockyer at the moment, but he has 2 years ahead of Mcphee who first year basis would be ahead)

Brown vs Lonie (Totally different players you have here, almost impossible to compare, but ill take a key position player that can play at any end of the ground over a wing/half back man any day)

Walker vs Adkins (Never heard of adkins so ill leave this one even)

Woods vs Davis (Who knows with these aboriginal players, Davis on the basis woods has only played 5 games)

Black vs O'Bree (Your kidding right, O'bree is merely a possesion gather, hardly penetrating, Black runs the lines, acurate left footer and skills rivarling any player in the league, again no comparison here)

So by my counting thats 3:3
Taking into note that 2 of your victories came from a first year player vs a 3rd year player.
Tarant and Pavlich is a little murky

I havent even mentioned the fact that of that list you have only 2 key position players to our 3.

And of course Fremantles 1st and 4th pick in this years Draft and as I said earlier we come out way on top.

So as far as potentially goes we have are ahead.If not before definitely after those 2 picks are factored in.

Can you see my point that after your fab 3 it drops away dramatically.

Very interesting choppy. Can you explain how a team plays above themselves?. I very confused, either a team has the talent to play at a certain level or they don't.

Also Port has peaked and will finish in the bottom 4 next year. Well what do you suggest we do should we get rid of Tredrea, Cornes, Stevens, Dew, Carr, Burgoyne etc etc. Most of these players are 22 or younger so maybe we should get rid of them now because going by your statement these players are not going to get any better.

anyway i..l have a brief stab at all clubs:
ESSlenty of depth in the youngsters side of things as well as depth enough to trade to keep quality youngsters coming thru.[best]-ramanaskis.
BRIS:hard to tell with the lions most are middle range players who have been around awhile needs to start to recruit for the long term.[best]-cupido.
PORT:have a wealth of young talent recruited very well.[best]-stevens.
HAW:starting to get youngsters into the big picture of things [best]-hay.
RICH:like the hawks finally starting to put more faith into youth[best]-ottens
CARLrobaly the weakest of the all sides as far as youngters go their continued policy of recyling players is starting to tell [best]-houlihan
SYD:very much like the lions many middle range players[best]-goodes.
COLL:the young policy is starting to bear fruit like port have a very good core of youngsters.[best]-fraser.
CROWSost premiership years have been slow but starting to realise youth is the answer [best]-marsh
GEEL:at the crossroads as far as youngsters go[best]-spriggs
BULLDGS:good bunch of youngsters waiting for their turn jury still out[best]-penny.
NORTH:like carlton but not as bad started to rebuild when it was obvious to do so[best]-smyth
MELB:nearly on par with carl their youngsters have gone backwards this year[best]-green
W/COAST:a slow process like the crows guilty of holding onto premiership players a tad to long bit ahrd to tell with half the side out due to injurys[best]-kerr.

There's some obvious bias regarding the quality of their players vis-a-vis other clubs shown by Fremantle supporters who post.

Just realise that you:
- still don't have a coach
- have just got a recycled "jobs for the boys" "CEO", who couldn't get a decent job in football for 18 months in spite of the nepotism at this level
- your football dept has little credibility
- you haven't been able to retain interstate players who you've developed (and look, I do sympathise with you over the Jeff White saga)
- you've had good draft picks and potential for 7 years and still will probably finish last this year.

My point is that you have to have stability, a plan and a club on the right footing. I'm a big Mick fan and the reality is that he's 2 years into implementing a 5 year plan with the Pies that'll take them to or close to a flag by the fifth year. You haven't started that process yet.
