So in another thread you are saying that Walsh will leave Carlton if he wants to avoid spoons, but in here , spoons are irrelevant.
You're all over the shop.
Yeah, I personally dont care about spoons. I’d rather 10 spoons and 1 premiership than be top 4 11 years without a premiership.

You suggested Walsh would want to avoid spoons, I just said if that’s the case Carlton isn’t the place to be.

Yet, you think West Coast would suit him. Checked odds, west coast are very shortish to get another spoon this year.

I never claimed West Coast would suit him. West Coast also have a far better list than Carlton which is what this thread is about.

Once Carlton’s older brigade retire rebuilding through the Tassie drafts will be very difficult.

West Coast have the makings of a premiership side on their list, Carlton are a rabble with not much hope to the future.

Wins the year just gone is largely irrelevant.

West Coast have the makings of a premiership side on their list
Hate to be the bearer of bad news, but they dont currently have the makings of a premiership team. And yes, the season just gone is relevant - can you name the last team to have a 1 win season, who went on to win a premiership ? Let me know when you find the answer

When asked about Carlton’s future you responded to me with players not even on the Carlton list. All that needs to be said.

West Coast now possesses one of the stronger U22 teams going around, that to me suggests the foundations of a side that will compete for premierships is there.

When do you expect Carlton to compete and what does that side look like?

It all depends on how many years forward you want to take the discussion doesnt it?

If it was 1- 2 years forward I'd say Collingwood - by a lot. If itwas 3-4 years forward I'd say St Kilda can join the discussion - Lyon will have retired and left his usual mess.

WC/Norths/Richmond have the bits and pieces in place to build on they will rise overthe next few year- rise to where is the issue.

Apart from Brisbane with proven finals quality youth and Suns stacked with 2 AFL quality teams worth of players- everyone else is battling with fingers crossed that luck goes their way a few times a year.

Carlton have to replace Cripps / Saad /Newman/ Hewett in the next 1-3 years repalcements for Saad and Newman are already there. Who knows how much more touch footabll the AFl will go with rule changes- it seems like the old school grunt merchants who see ball get ball may actually become irrelevant - if so Carlton already has the makings of a fast lighter weight midfield on the books. What Carlton now lacks is a genuine X factor superstar - but then again Cunrow decided that he wasnt interested to be that a year ago at Carlton - he will dominate on the SCG.

How about answering my question - when was the last team to come off a 1 win season, to win a flag ?
GWS , Suns, those franchise teams who had the best under 22 lists in the histroy of football, havent managed to achieve a flag. And you think West Coast are better prepared at this point in time ? Delulu

North Melbourne won a flag 5 years after a one win season, again pretty irrelevant.

When did I say West Coast was better prepared than either GWS/GC? I’m not saying their U22’s makes them a lock for a flag.

I’m merely saying given neither West Coast or Carlton are competing for a flag the next 2-3 years, I’d take the list with the better under 22 talent that’s better positioned to compete for a flag passed that timeline.

Answer my question now, when do you believe Carlton will compete again and what does that team look like?

In 2-3 years time, carlton will have a better list of under 22's in my opinion.

Maybe, but only because in 2-3 years time most of West Coasts U22’s will no longer be U22.

This is as speculative as it gets though, you’re basically saying “Carlton will draft better the next 2-3 years in my opinion”.

Current players who will be U22 in 3 years time:

Bo Allan
Jobe Shanahan
Tom Gross
Luca Grego
Hamish Davis
Jacob Newton
Willem Duursma
CDT
Josh Lindsay
Sam Allen
Tylah Williams
Fred Rodriguez
Vs
Jagga Smith
HOF
Campos
Harry Dean
Talor Byrne
Jack Ison

That’s a ridiculous amount of ground Carlton would have to cover in the next few drafts with Tassie coming in.
