I know it won't happen, but if you could, who do you think is most deserving of the iconic no.14 jumper in the current swans team?

There are many players over the years but maybe give it to the best draft choice your to the one of skilts choice ?

And dont forget one Peter Bedford( Wheels)

I'd prefer that the number just reappears on a regular top 22 player without any fuss. I don't really want us to go down the road of basketball where they retire numbers. Plugger's number went staight onto Benny's back. Willo's went straight onto Spida's. But we've probably left it a little too long, and now the No. 14 could end up being a millstone around a player's neck.

But for the sake or argument there would be a nice synergy if the number 14 went to another NSW boy.

kirky or mickey are the only two id like to see with the honour of wearing 14 on the their back. kirky because he's inspirational (cptn courageous & cptn kirk hehe) or mickey since he's the oldest swan (in games played).

but i think both the above players are happy with their current numbers.

like some have mentioned, they've left it so long that the reputation of the number 14 grows, but no doubt whoever takes it will have the unfortunate possibility of retaining the reputation of the number... something along the lines of being the leagues number one draft pick...

i would like to see somone run around with the number 14 on their back before i die tho!!

Paul Bevan.

The name came from after the H&A game againest the Eagles last year. Brett Kirk said he was 'inspirational' taking that hit, or some rubbish like that.

Seriously? The players refer to him as inspo? Um....ooookaaaaay. :p

You wouldn't seriously consider giving Beavan the 14.

He is struggling to even make the side at present.

I thought it was Malcheski that got cleaned up, might be wrong though.

I know it's early days in his career, but I thought Kieran Jack showed a lot of courage in a few of the plays he was involved in last week. Id like to see him play a bit more before giving him the no. 14 but I think he showed glimpses of some of the qualities of Kel and Skilts in his limited game time.
Hope he gets a few more games before the injured senior players return. :)

Noo, haha. Only me and my sister call him Inspo and even then, it's a joke. Remember how after he got the hit that's kinda when the Eagles started to get going in the last quarter and got their goals? I don't think anyone actually thinks Paul Bevan is 'inspirational'. So yeah, it's only a joke that came from something stupid that Brett Kirk said.

Anyway, i doubt Inspo would ever want to change his number seeing his premiership number is 42. But i think Auskick will eventually ask for something smaller, so who knows.

Hmm. Well he fits the profile. League background. Hard tackler. Quick. Big heart. New South Welshman.

But I agree with the idea that someone should wear it soon. That number is starting to have a Turin Shroud feel. And it's probably time to bring it back down Earth before it will be impossible to wear it without the prospective player first performing a miralce and being Beatified by the Pope!! :D

haha. Cool. Please don't be insulted if I don't join you in the whole "inspo" thing tho. :p

Geelong gave Travis Varcoe no. 5 and no fuss has been made of it. The longer the number is without an owner, the more pressure there will be on the next kid. I say we give it to our last round draft choice next year, where there would be no expectation.

No. 11 on the other hand....

They should have given to someone in 2003, straight after Kel retired. Now the next player who gets it, is going to be under undue pressure to perform. Kelly was hardly setting the world on fire when he got it in '91/'92.

Two club legends have worn the number, but some ordinary campaigners have worn the number too - just like any other number.

Sorry not being rude but no even close and yes I know its only a opinion which everyone has a right to

My thought right at this moment A. Goodes get it out of the way Skilts would be proud for him to wear it

I don't think Goodes would want it. I don't think any players from the 2005 premiership would want to change their number, especially not Adam seeing he's won 2 Brownlows and a premiership with the number 37.

Thats my point skilts won three but only played in one final game
way back in 1970 againts the saints as a matter of interest but would give them away to be a premiership player

yes Goodes has a flag under his belt my well get a third Brownlow

Just a thought but do you think the the playing number issue would be against the team orientated Bloods Spirit thingummy. Seems a little like anything that puts the focus on an individual wouldn't exactly be cheered on by the setup. And perhaps the number 14 hasn't been re-issued for that very reason?

What does this have to do with Adam Goodes getting the number 14? Adam Goodes wouldn't want the number.

Thanks. Your post was not rude but I think you may have missed the point. I thought the idea of the thread was to identify young players who may deserve one day to wear the jumper (could be wrong), not established players who have worn another number for their entire careers. Why would someone like Goodes, who has won 2 Brownlow medals in his jumper, want to change numbers all of a sudden? He and others have made their jumpers their own. If we're talking current senior, established players then I reckon Crouch would just beat Goodes to the no.14 jumper.

Paul Kelly is my fav. player of all time, and although I was not around to see Skilton by all accounts he is a legend of the game. I was certainly NOT comparing Kieran Jack to either of these greats, just making an observation that for the 15 minutes that Jack played the other night he showed a fair bit of courage for such a young, small player. If what he showed the other night is a sign of things to come he will be OK in my book.
