An exceedingly good timeframe for a traditional ACL recovery is 10 months. He ain’t playing round 1, and likely not before round 8-10.

If he has no setbacks.

And that's where he should stay for me. A leader. Not THE leader. Just simply not good enough.

I agree that your captain doesn't have to be your best player, but McGrath has so much of his own game to work on that it would feel almost hypocritical for him to be advising and instructing others.

Problem is, Durham and Martin just seem a bit too young yet. Langford, Ridley and Caldwell just a bit too inconsistent with injuries. Roberts clearly too young. And outside of that I don't know.

I would make co captains

McGrath for the corporate off field leadership/ mentorship of young guys

Then allow Durham to be onfield lead by example guy.

Doubt either could do it alone, yet they are our best options

We desperately need to import a leader. Someone who has already had Premiership success, whose main motivation is to bring along a young group as well as mentoring our potential leaders. But it has to be someone who understands the assignment 100%. Not an easy task to find someone like that.
