It is why I like Anthony Hudson so much as he is the gold standard of taking an amazing play and making it iconic.

He used to be good, but now he is just ridiculous.

Often he can't even think of a proper sentence to say during play so he just repeats the same word over and over eg: "tapping tapping tapping...goal!"

He did that in the 90s.

He has been fawning over stars to a sus degree and tenderly rubbing thighs all his career.

Did his role change? I felt that he didn't do as much play by play commentary earlier and was much better being able to step in at the right moment. Now days he just can't think and talk fast enough.

Commentators like comedians have a window where they excel and the public love them but their time always comes up almost without exception ( exceptions being Commetti for commentators and Ugly Dave Gray for comedians).

Bruce saturated the Bruce market through the 2000s to the point people are sick of his voice, his close to orgasm commentary, and his annoying need to bring up long gone commentators as if they are just a stone throw away (What do you think about that Lee...Dennis are you here..Gary, that's your best friends wife").

What he needs to do is reduce the Bruce to an acceptable level ( which may be zero, I did hear Chappelli commentate this summer on ABC and I wish he wouldn't, just an old man yelling at clouds) so that people would like more.

He's a legend but far he's butchered big moments for years now. He's become far too scripted and cant hide his fantasies in his head anymore.

Two things annoy me:

1) Constantly phrasing statements as questions... "you just the get the feeling that Geelong need the next one, don't you?"
2) Obsessing over individuals even when they do something basic... "Dusty with a little handball, gee Dusty was good there, wasn't he?"

As other posters have said, he is a parody of himself. He sounds like some comedian doing a Bruce McAvaney impression for laughs.

He is a great in sporting commentary in general but has gone at least a decade too long. Like many others I watch the footy with commentary muted from about five minutes into most games.

Was the benchmark for years but age has caught up with him. His knowledge and passion for all sports is something ive always admired. The Winx stuff while he was calling at the Commonwealth Games and the like. Although, id still listen to Bruce asking 183 questions a game than endure 2 seconds of Derwaynes try hard shit
