Has anyone noticed the amazing way some players seem to bulk up so quickly.
I can recall West Coast players in the very late 80s at the end of the season and then in the beginning of the next season looking completely different - huge upper body development.

I have noticed that to alesser extent in more recent years although some Collingwood players may be approaching that category.

Is it just hard work and top gym work?

ooh nice work troll youre trying to create more trouble as it is. good for you why dont you go and celebrate your sides win rather having no life sitting on a computer and trolling like the moron you are. what you want us to say? steroids. fine wc and collingwood use steroids they have it for breakfast lunch and tea.

Why do alot of the female aussie swimmers have bigger backs and shoulders than half the powerlifters i know?Traps like ronnie coleman? When the chinese did it...outrage!!!Now our girls are 6 feet wide...never hear a peep from the media.

The sports drugs industry is always ahead of the doping agencies in everything. Steroids, hormones, masking agents, whatever. It's big money.

I don't think it's much of an issue in AFL. The players run too much and can't afford to be too top heavy.

dieticians making sure you eat properly, a lot of hard work in the gym and viola - big muscles....as for drugs? maybe, who knows, the drugs side of it is more rec use such as ice, not exactly peformance enhancing such as hgh or similar.

HGH doesn't build muscle. Not when used by itself at least

If they got really big, then they wouldn't have such good endurance. They'd have to take something like EPO to get the endurance back up.
I can't see that happening. As if a player would take steroids and EPO. I mean, it just doesn't make sense.

Our game isn't suited to it.

coupled to other things it does, and hgh is legal mostly everywhere but OZ.....but i digress, some players are more ripped than others, i dont think its in there interests to be too muscly....cousins came back ripped to shreds

With a proper training and weights regime, and strict diet including protein formulas and supplements like creatine, it can be done legally.

Creatine does not bulk players up that quickly. A monohydrate which causes cramps and bloating... zero percent of AFL players would use this. Creatine Esthyl Ester is fat soluble so it leans you out it doesnt bulk u up. High carbs is what bulks you up but that also puts extra fat. Most players i believe go on 6 to 8 weeks steroid cycles in off season to bulk them up and then continue training to maintain the size. Towards end of preseason players would use stazanol because that is a ripping agent. So in a majority of cases it would be drugs.

Finally a sensible eagle supporter admitting the problem. :)

Again, exactly what i have said so far:

HGH doesn't build significant muscle alone.

AFL players can't afford to be too top heavy.

What will be interesting over the next few years as the AFL levels off in terms if what teams are capable of is to see if any clubs have the balls to try a new approach based on size and explosive strength. 18 players on the field bigger and stronger than Alistair Lynch and Barry Hall. Less running capacity but the power and strength to outmuscle other teams in just about any 1on1 contest. The strength to injure other teams with fair bumps and tackles. Or if/when they allow say, 6 or 8 interchange players, will teams have "squads" of massive enforcers, NFL/union style? I would love to see that. AFL is getting real boring real fast, and the aerial ballet tag is starting to stick i think. If it gets any softer they might as well play soccer.

Partially correct - creatine, esentially, is a muscle cell volumiser. Monohydrate does not cause cramps and bloating in 99.5% of the population either. And i bet you many afl players use this because creatine is known to enhance power output, strength, and some reports also suggest endurance. High carbs does not bulk you up, carbs are essentially energy....yes your muscles use carbs in the form of glycogen, however it is protein which dictates their growth or atrophy. I dont think there are that many players that are that built and ripped to cause a stir with steroid use, so i wouldnt start pointing fingers- most look el-natural, they simply dont have THAT much muscle on their frames to warrant steroid claims.
