Hate is somewhat of an ugly term, for me.
For gods sake my best mate is an Essendon supporter and I love him, despite his awkward oreintation.

Let's have the strong rivalry, but just leave a little "hate" out of the language.

I don't think that our intellect has a particular disposition dependant on which team we barrack for.
I'm just as ashamed for the same percentage of Carlton supporters as I am for Collingwood supporters as I am for Essendon supporters.

The thing with our clubs though as we've all tasted a large amount of success and by default have become somewhat arrogant, if you want.

Anyway, I best get out of here, but will be back should you win on Sunday.

its a passionate game!, its almost tribal.... because of its old suburban roots... look at places like europe, they have been at war for half of history because of all the neighbours and their ego battles. We are just having inner suburban battles.

its semi tounge in cheek, i dont hate any of these people personally...they are just like me going to watch their boys play footy. But i love having some faceless entity to hate...a team..like the bady in a puppet show..booooooo carlton.

No probs, the posts you were responding to were questionable, so they're gone.

We're both sitting on 16 premierships and may well have a stronger rivalry (call it hate, if you want) than we have even against our other prime enemy in Collingwood.
For all the "hate" we may have for each other, it would be a lesser experience if it were not for it.

We don't want to end up like Europe, separated from each other before during and after the game. Not to mention the brawls of hundreds of lunatics any given night. If that was going to happen it would've by now, but we still have to be careful.

too true...

ive had mates come over from the uk and america..they cant believe how full on the people are here in the crowd..the way people yell and scream and get visibly upset yet there are barley any fights to speak about. Its a unique part of our game and culture that we can be so passionate yet still sit and drink side by side with our 'enemy'

I am CousinOfModra and I hate Carlton more than a snake hates a mongoose.

I am in agreement with the majority of the comments. So many reasons.

This is the biggest rivalry in AFL football hands down. Fans of both clubs would agree they hate each other more than any other club.

I love beating Hawthorn and Collingwood but I respect the hell out of both sides. There is no respect for the filth, never have, never will and if they beat us it is only cos they are cheating.

On Sunday, I am hoping for a game that showcases the great game that AFL is. Two proud Victorian teams, head to head in a winner takes all game. It doesn't get any better (well maybe if it was a Grand Final). The best team on the day will win. If it's Essendon, I'll congratulate my mate and we'll have a few beers. That's what adults do!!!

I hope i don't get abused over this but they are similar to us in terms of arrogance and wanting success. Its hard to hate them for that. Most clubs cheated, yes they went a little too far but they were trying to win. I don't like them but its hard to hate them because of my father.
