LOL Donvale - the team that just starting to get back on it's feet after being taken to the financial cleaners by every has been, wannabe, hack football player around ( Galaxy Coleman, McCormack etc).

It's OK mate we'll just battle our way along - walk before we run.

Just stirrin buddy. So do u play for Lilydale or used to or just watch? Interesting to see how chunky cox has got. how do u reckon u guys will go for the rest of the year?

Played now just watch.
Cox - mmmm disappointing
We just need to stay up there for a couple more years and consolidate our spot then start to make inroads (ala Croydon, Donvale)

oh and Lad,son (DOH!) way too busy at work - missed it

There sooooooo arrogant remind me of shepp teams back home in the GV.

A behind is called a behind because the ball goes behind the goal post. That is the historical reason for the name whether you agree with it or not.
I didn't get this at first, but then I saw a reddit post which explained how it is from the perspective of a goal umpire, it will appear to go behind the goal post. All very interesting, good thread, thank you all.

We struggled to get our point across back in 2005.

Because the bll goes behind the post on most occasions ie, watching a kick from 40m out straight on, the ball will pass the goal post behind it, not in front. (this only works when the point is kicked on the side that the player is kicking from (i think????))

Wow your midfielders are tiny! Wines only weighs 32 grams?

I remember the 1970 game at the MCG between Richmond and Fitzroy
attended by the Queen and Prince Phillip.
John Schultz sat with the Queen to explain the game. He said later it was
embarrassing to have to explain to her, why a player had kicked a behind.

I believe the word "mark" is similar/same as was called by players of the indigenous game of "Marngrook" when someone caught the ball. [Possum skin actually] With Australian Rules being adapted from Marngrook, the term "mark" carried over to it!

Why is catching the ball called a "mark"?

As above tweet

“Any player catching the ball directly from the foot may call “Mark”. He then has a free kick; no player from the opposite side being allowed the come inside the spot marked.”

They’d actually yell “mark” and mark the spot on the ground. An opponent could stand on the mark, but not go beyond it.
