Believe it or not, but I got this from Bay 13

Why do Port & Adelaide hate each other so much?

Which got me thinking, apart from "because they are Port", I couldn't really think of any other reason

So... having said that

Why do we hate Port??

Bunch on bandwagoner w***ers who don't give two shits about football in this state and will always be like that. Don't be fooled but this current we want what is best for football in this state crap coming out from them at the moment. They will and always want what is best for them. Backstabbers.

And their fans are the softest bunch out. It is truly amazing how earlier this year I found out how many people I know were "Port fans." I put this in quotes cause these same people will not talk football anymore after the past two months. Soft and always have been.

And all this crap about being the most knowledgeable football fans around is the most laughable thing I ever hear.

PS I will think of more but that's it for now :)

Haha, what PB said! Couldn't have said it better myself.

I have hated Port my whole life, didn't really have a choice I guess considering my old man is a lifelong Rooster. At the end of the day they are arrogant w***ers who think the football world revolves around them and the majority are bandwagoning tossers who only started following Port cos they won most weeks.

I think I heard Dangerfield say one time it's because Adelaide is just a 2 team town and you want your team to be the best. Or something along those lines.

I personally don't hate Port, but it always makes me happier to see crows do better than them.

i'm in your boat a bit RL, having grown up in a Rooster household, i was just told to shut and continue hating when i asked "Mummy why don't I like Port"

Norwood lad through and through here, a club that consistently stood up to Port over the years so I have seen how soft their fans really are.

I hate port as much as most, altho it makes afl more interesting having the swampies in the comp as a bit more rides on each victory to stay above each other on the ladder. Plus it gives me two teams to cheer for...us and whoever is playin port!
They are a polarising club, you either love 'em or hate them!

Anyways....when the crows were brought into the comp was there ever a thought of adelaide being a 2 team city?
2 composite teams may have been a better way to go...made up of the sanfl teams, dividing adelaide either north/south or east/west guaranteeing a better spread of support

Similar story for me. Norwood fan long before the Crows were ever created. Port were the Redlegs' arch enemy long before I was born and thus the hatred was indoctrinated into me from a very early age.

Never followed an SANFL team. Always noticed a fair amount of animosity directed towards the Crows by Port supporters (before the Power) and could never figured out why.

After the Power joined the competition I started noticing that their supporters consisted of an unusually high percentage of creepy individuals with sociopathic tendencies.

Quite frankly I couldn’t care less about Port Power, yeah sure it’s a two team town whatever, they are more of a general annoyance because for some reason despite having less than ½ the support they expect the same air time as the Crows, I have more interest and hatred against other teams around the comp.

I was one of the those idiots who used to go to 22 games a year at AAMI, stopped doing that in ’04 when they acted like a bunch of spoilt brats, outside showdowns I haven’t been to or watched a full Port game since early ’05. It’s rather embarrassing because I know more about most of the Vic teams that I do the Power, especially bad when I have to ask who the hell certain players are during showdowns.

Port Magpies on the other hand !!

I dont hate them......................Yes DT,Toots and others you heard correct dont HATE them, just dont care for them. Then i dont care for 15 AFL clubs.Sure i dont mind when they lose but dont get upset when they win. When one of my many Port supporting cousins asked me in 2004 about the GF i said i wont lose any sleep if you win and wont gain any if you lose.

Sure i hope they lose every time they play i find their situation amuzing but if i was to sit down and list my Fav all time footballers there would be a healthy number of Port players in that list

It dates back a lot further than 1990, but that just capped off their attitude throughout their history to a tee.

A definite divide can also be drawn demographically.

Working class v Middle class
Labor v Liberal
Red v Blue

..and so on

I find I hate Port much less now as they really aren't much of a refelction of the old SANFL club. When they tried to bring back THE CREED it didn't really work, they need to move on.

Being a Bays supporter my whole life it was just ingrained in me from my Grandma, plus having a w***er like Williams as head coach for so long was never going to endear an opposition supporter, nor his own it seems.

because every team in every sport that shares a city with one other team hate each other a helluva lot, it's just the way it is!

:thumbsu: This is correct. There's no reason I hate them, it's just they're the other team in Adelaide and rivalry is fun for a lot of people.

Grew up on football from when i was born pretty much so even though i'm not old, i had enough time of dealing with port before the crows arrived.. This is what instilled my dislike for them.. Port power is still port no matter what way you put it and they still have the same smart ass ways about them, arrogance etc..

Port supporters over the years always fall back to "you all just hate port cos you're jealous of our success blah blah blah".. I always reply (even if it's in my head cos i can't say it out loud if it's someone on radio or whatever lol) - norwood have been nearly as successful and i don't hate norwood..

Big mouths, first to rub it in your face when they win but nowhere to be seen when they lose..

They have actually always seemed over the years to take more joy in rubbing it into other people than celebrating and enjoying what they may do.. Very bad winners..

1990 just added further fuel to the fire and in typical port manner, they thought and still think they did nothing wrong..

I could go on and on and.....
