Will Matt Rendell work in AFL again?

Proven recruiting manager, known for being blunt and telling it how it is (according to Crows supporters). Ousted over certain unacceptable statements.

I'm thinking he'll quietly get a job somewhere in six months' time. Let the next scandal bubble up and it'll all get swept away, that he'll start 'consulting' for one club or another.

He'll have to go through some sort of anti-prejudice program or something probably though.

Apologies if this reads badly - couldn't find the exact words. Don't agree with his actions, but more a hypothetical.

Well if he lives by being honest then the AFL is no place for him.

Anyone that can say they believe a word that comes out of anyones mouth in the AFL now is really living in a fantasy world.

Tell the world what what they want to hear is their motto. Be honest and you will be fired.

Andrew Krakouer was allowed back into the league and his actions were far, far worse than Rendell's.

If he issues a token apology(as are all AFL apologies) I don't see why he shouldn't be able to work in the AFL system again.

Solid post - couldnt agree more.

He's damaged goods now - doubt he'll work in the AFL again. Its a pity because he's a bloody good recruiter.

Sure, maybe if the klansmen purchase the next available franchise.

Don't want him anywhere near the AFL, a far too jeopardous association.

He'll make a low key entry next year, if his as good as some say he is, clubs will be desperate to get him. In 12 months time noones gonna care if he gets another job in the AFL, we will forget about this "scandel" in about 6 days time

People forget about short-lived 'scandals' like these quickly. Whether his role his quite as significant, I don't know, but it shouldn't be long before he's involved in recruiting again in some form or another.

There's enough ambiguity in the case that he should have no problem popping up again next year in a recruiting role. Sure we know something of what he said but we don't really know the context (and context is everything, people love to jump to conclusions when it comes to racism allegations but the context can't simply be ignored).

He should do (provided he is good at what he does, I wouldnt really know). It's pretty absurd to get fired (or forced to resign, whatever) because of comments that were only 'aired' second hand. Nobody has any idea of the context involved, or even if there was any context. It's just the comments from Mifsud.

It's all a bit wierd...

Well, if it's a fifty:fifty decision, and you've got a recruiter with a clean history and one who has said stuff that may make it hard for him to establish trust with a range of players and parents, you'd probably go with the safer option.

If he's "that" good he will get recruited regardless because he's worth the risk.

he made an observation that kids with 1 white parent are better prepared to cope with a white domminated society such as AFL. which probably means the parents have over the years banished the money bludging hangers on, the bad influences, brought he child up with some white values, attitudes and diciplines that are demanded in our society.

surely you cant hang a bloke for making those observations? is political correctness too powerful?

A. Anyone who says "political correctness" is making a lazy argument and doesn't understand what political correctness means.

B. Your comments are worse. Get away from "bad infuence" with "white values"? You would have thought Alan McAllister was hard done by.

Some bludgers are white, some are black. Some black people have the attitudes to make it in AFL, some don't, and same for some white people.

You need to look at each individual, on their merits and on their risks, without prejudice. Otherwise you are both a racist and a poor recruiter.

Timeline:

August 2012 - "While AFL Clubs prepare for the finals, one of the game's best thinkers is toiling away anonomously, running the canteen for his nephew's U10s" - article follows.

Dec 2012 - Australian Story ' Matt Rendell shows the minefield that race relations have become in today's society'.

March 2012 - 'AFL announces that Matt Rendell completed it's Diversity Training in November'.

June 2012 - Rendell joins AFL club in specialist role to 'Work with troubled recruits'.

Actually. I'm being conservative - it coulsd be as little as 6 months..,,,,,,

your call.

wrt the OP.

In short no. Now he has gained the label 'racist' in such a high profile way, his career in the AFL is over for good.

He will suffer the consequences (rightly or wrongly) of this for the rest of his working life.
