Great to see Stanners there. He has been the only one who hasn't really done much this year, and to see that, just improves our depth even more.

And 2 weeks in a row. May be starting to gain some confidence in himself. 1 more of those and he will be in senior contention.

Sandringham vs Williamstown

Sandringham kicked with the wind in the first quarter and they managed to break away with a handy lead at the quarter-time break. Brad Gotch demanded answers from his players and they responded, reducing the margin to 9 points at the main interval. Sandringham started to get on top in the third quarter and the game was as good as gone at three-quarter time, regardless of the wind, and they play that ground very well. Williamstown's forward structure left little to be desired; Limback was very quiet, Williams was poor by his standards and Medhurst never took his game to the next level. I would have thrown Meyer in the forward line because he seems to read the game, and for a ruckman at 20, he is a future star.

Danny Stanley: I was impressed with his aggression at the footy. He moved onto Robertson and tried really hard. Seems to have improved.

Ryan Cook: Ryan played across the half-back line, he didn't have any influence on the game, started well though.

Guy Richards: Hopeless. No brains.

Sharrod Wellingham: I thought he got a stack of the ball, picked up his possession rate from last week, can use it too, but his conversion rate on goal wasn't good.

Martin Clarke: Really liked his game. He showed he could develop into an in-an-under midfielder rather than a small defender. Has a good future IMO.

Ben Reid: Reidy used it body nicely and will improve as he progresses. He looked a little lost up the ground at times but he is learning more about his game than he would in the Under 18s. Encouraging signs.

Nathan Brown: Wakes was speaking to him a lot during the game, he was on Robertson there for a while, so that's a good learning curve for the kid. To be honest I don't know where he's at, he's a long-term prospect.

Shannon Cox: Was Russell Robertson's direct opponent, has a touch of class about him, can look very good. Will be there or thereabouts. His disposal is pretty good.

Shane Wakelin: Put up a brave show. I think he's losing his awareness and decision-making.

Daniel Nicholls: Knocking down the door for a recall, just love the way he goes about his footy - takes no prisoners.

Ben Davies didn't play so he may replace Brad Dick from the selected side tomorrow.

Chris Egan went off and looked like he did something to his knee. Could be missing a month (on the sidelines) depending on the extent of the damage. He made his way out of the ground on crutches.

because he was injured with an ankle since the pre season

Go Stanners!

Great to hear Marty Clarke stepping up again, excellent news.

Thanks for the report :thumbsu:

P.S. Very relieved to hear Egan didn't do an ACL, even if in the very least it maintains his trade value (for Meesen?) :)

I hope brown will start to show something soon, the reports about him are a bit worrying.

I like Clarke on wing/hff , he sets up goals.
Just a little light today and some stupid errors cost us (it's a given that Sandy will get 5-6 soft goals off the umpires there , as sad as that maybe).
I haven't heard it was confirmed that Egan didn't do his ACL , there have been mixed reports both ways. His kneecap certainly popped out , other than that I have no definite idea , apart from people making different claims.

Those stupid errors will disappear from his game as soon as he has been around for a few years. He doesn't look all that bad. I think he shows some promise as an in-an-under midfielder and he can push forward and become a goalkicking midfielder.

If his patella did indeed pop out, it is highly unlikely it's an ACL, more of a dislocation. Unless his knee also moved in a direction to rupture the anterior cruciate, which would be unlikely if the cap popped out. Lets hope he is safe as I really want to see this boy develop into a good player.

Medhurst played well today as well - he'll come straight back in next week.

Special mention also to Meyer, who showed tremendous improvement in the ruck. We should draft him next year. Great leap - Jeff White style - and also capable of kicking a long goal.

Clarke was good too as an in-and-under type.

The second line was a general comment on Willi as a side today compared to Sandringham. I only saw Clarke really make one error today and that was a crossfield pass which Wellingham dropped under pressure , he also set up goals today. He has a good mind and a great work ethic.

I think Clarke's best position would be midfield/forward rather than down back like the archetypal small Gaelic footballer. His position was something like full forward in Gaelic football so he has natural attacking flair and goal sense (as much as you can have in a different sport). Halfback is the perfect spot to learn but I think he'll end up the other end of the ground.

what makes you think adelaide will want egan, you don't want him, don't you think they have seen him play

did you think we were drafting john brown. why do supporters want and expect every first and second year player to come in and be an instant world beater staight off the bat.some can do it but others need more time but that is no reason to pack their bags already

kids coming along well.

great to see Stanley starting to step up. people forget that he was recruited as a bottom age. He really should have only been drafted last year.

dont worry about Brown - bigger kids always take more time. He is certainly not timid and he has great closing speed. suspect he is still getting over his injury.

Nicholls - deserves another chance and good to see him continue to fight it out. will slot nicely into a BP in the seniors shortly.

Went down to Sandy yesterday to watch the game. The conditions for the players were not easy. It was very windy and the ground seamed to be pretty slippery at times.

I was very impressed with young Stanley, Wellingham & Clarke. Medhurst started well but struggled as the game went on. Like most of Willy's fwd's did because the disposal into the 50 was poor.

Getting back to the kids.

Stanley - Has really improved to when I saw him last year. He is strong overhead and looks to have the confidence to back himself coming out of defence. I wouldnt say the boy has natural pace but once he learns how to use that big body of his, he will be a good addition into the center of the ground.

Wellingham - Really like the look of Sharrod. Even with his small frame he still likes to get in the thick of it. Yeah he looks soft at times but its hard to expect much of him at this stage. Very clean by foot and has pace to burn.

Clarke - Amazing that this kid has only played a handfull of games in his lifetime. Disposal by foot is very good and he can kick the ball a mile. He is very strong through his lower body and in time will be a real line breaker. I dont think he will play for the Pies this year but in saying that, with his progression so far he could well prove me wrong.

Just one last note on N.Brown. Alot of people talk about his pace and how slow he looks. Well from the few games I have seen him play for Willy, that lack of spped just comes down to his confidence which I think is very low at the moment. He has great closing speed and once he finds his feet, he will show why the Pies drafted him.

Daniel Stanley looks just about set and ready to prove a few people wrong. Hopefully we see a Daniel Stanley apology thread in the coming weeks.

I have no doubt Medhurst will come back into the side next week or at latest week after. Just played yesterday for some match fitness and we no what he is capable of in the big time and lets hope we see him running around shortly.

re: N Brown: Sprint and Repeat Sprint Ability were highlights at the NAB AFL Draft Camp with 20m sprint time of 2.91sec (Top 3%) and Repeat Sprint Test time of 25.07sec (Top 8%).

its there he just needs time

Stupid post. People have the right to call it as they see it, and you'd be hard pushed to find anyone who thought Stanelys season last year was anything more then unimpressive.

Noone wants to see the kid fail, but supporters come on here for an honest opinion about a player. Last year the majority of those opinions wer that Stanley wasn't good enough, and they were right, hence he was playing Two's.
I hope he proves us all wrong, we all want the same result in the end for the club. But to imply people need to apologise for passing judgement on someone?
Pfft, its a joke. Stanley probably thinks to himself he's the only one who has to apologise, for not showing what he could really do last year.

Hope to see the boy in the seniors in the coming weeks

I agree Invigoration. I haven't seen anybody write him off. But alot of people, myself included, have not been impressed with his performances to date and thats all they are comments on individual performances.
