What do you reckon the average handicap of the Augusta membership is?

30?
Yank handicaps are a mystery. Most of them don't play any kind of comps like we do every week.

The bigger question would be how often they play to their marks. Bot sure Condoleezza Rice plays to her claimed 14 too often. Still love Connie though.

I would love to find out from say Arccos what the average handicaps are in different countries. I reckon GB&I, Aus, NZ(basically Commonwealth countries) would have materially higher marks. But play to them more often.

It’s somewhat frustrating that a course such as that, is hacked around by 70+ year olds who couldn’t drive the ball out of sight on a dark night and there is no possibility for a normal person to get on.

Yep, just like tennis players. Spoiled rich kids and silver spooners. Only ones who can afford elite coaching from the time they can walk.

Listen to nearly every US pro and most of their stories begin with “well, my dad was the pro at the local country club so I was always playing with clubs…”
That's a rather broad generalisation. I'd say the majority of US pros come from what would be described as a middle class background. Yes, there are the Mav McNealys of the world, but they are rarities. Most guys come from a decent background that gave them the opportunity to play golf and the elite ones were talent spotted from there. The AJGA and then the high school/college system has a pretty effective structure for developing any talented kid.

Country club pros would not meet the definition of silver spooners. They are working stiffs.

quite a few i'd guess, tiger 2019 was iirc

Tiger bogeyed 17 and 18 in 2005 to get into playoff with dimarco. Of course everyone just remembers the chip in.

Well Done to Rory, ended up being a fun weekend given the 6 shot lead heading into Saturday

Rory is a machine. Very calm and mentally strong after each hole.
Could’ve started scrambling after that double bogey but the holes after that he birdies 2 to go even on the front 9.

Must have a sports Psychologist, not easy for the last 10 years to get so close yet so far. In that time, Speith Koepka etc have stagnated.

After the week he had, he must have been very fatigued too. Super impressive

The old class warfare card.

Great book. Getting it onto the golf course is the challenge

I use “aim small, miss small”, i.e. especially off the tee, pick a small, distant target and focus on it.
Other one is on the practice putting green hit long putts to get feel for distance, don’t even think about holing them. Move to 10-12ft, same thing, the issue is to get them rolling ok. Head down don’t look up.
Has really helped me.

Was an awesome watch yesterday morning. Big fan of Rory and bigger fan of denying the bible basher another jacket. He just is so boring to watch.

Love the meltdown on twitter about how Rory had an unfair advantage. Took for Michael Kim to jump on and tell them that anyone could do that to partially shut them up. No one does it better when complaining than the yanks.

Young and Scheffler.

Massive God botherers.

He must’ve had his focus elsewhere.

I'm similar - try to "see" the ground underneath the ball after I putt it. Just like I try to see my divots.

This focus usually lasts at least two holes before I forget to do it for a stretch. Then I remember later on. Usually after I have surrendered the round.
