Who's the worst player to have played 300 games? It's a selected list, obviously, as I can't fit all 56 into a poll.

Here's their stats:

Ashcroft: 318 games, 145 goals
Blakey: 359 games, 110 goals
Breen: 300 games, 308 goals
Burke: 323 games, 124 goals
Cloke: 333 games, 323 goals
Foulds: 300 games, 140 goals
Grant: 301 games, 361 goals
Greene: 304 games, 134 goals
Hart: 311 games, 45 goals
Lynch: 306 games, 633 goals
Martyn: 300 games, 16 goals
Merrett: 313 games, 433 goals
Moore: 300 games, 21 goals
Neitz: 306 games, 631 goals
Newman: 300 games, 100 goals
Rantall: 336 games, 10 goals
Salmon: 324 games, 561 goals
Scott: 302 games, 133 goals
Smith: 300 games, 254 goals
Williams: 306 games, 307 goals

Stupid Poll, any player with 300 games is obviously good so why try and find the worst one? Respect their accomplishments.

why not try and find the worst one? just because they're all good doesn't mean they're all superstars, as you can tell at a glance by looking at the list above.

by your logic, shane woewodin won a brownlow therefore he is obviously good. i think we all realise the fallacy there.

Stupid Poll, any player with 300 games is obviously good...

let me reply again. you're wrong and here's why you're wrong.

the best players mostly don't play 300 games.

here's a selected list of champions from the last 20 years who didn't play 300 games:

hird, voss, buckley, ablett, carey, lockett, dunstall, matera, brereton...

instead of these guys playing 300 in that time, players like blakey, shannon grant, burke, rohan smith played 300.

and here's a list of multiple brownlow medal winners who didn't play 300 games:

bunton, skilton, stewart, warne-smith, hutchison, wright, greig, moore

that's 8 out of 12 multiple winners.

the best players don't necessarily play 300 games. so the players who play 300 games aren't the absolute best - in fact, some of them are pretty bad, considering how long they played for. they're not "obviously good".

Since when did I ever mention the BEST player? You clearly weren't reading me correctly. The reason why I dislike this topic is because all 300 game players endured all the hard work and hurdles yet you're trying to find the worst of the bunch. What's the point? There is no real point in finding the worst player out of a bunch of solid/good hardworking player. They deserve praise, even if they are only average.

How many games till Rocca gets there?

Anyway I dunno cause I haven't seen all those blokes play, but some of the guys you listed were dead set guns (Burkey in particular) and don't deserve to be called the worst anything

Then there's no point ever choosing between any set of AFL/VFL players. They all did the hard yards to get on the field and play some amount of games at the highest level. Why bother thinking about who really deserved the Norm Smith? They all did really well just to get out on the ground on grand final day; let's give them all a nice clap and go do something useful instead of being on a footy message board.

Of course, you could treat it as a hypothetical question. Which of these 20 players would you least want in your hypothetical side? That's generally the way these things work.

There's no need to have a cry about it GrandBlue. As I recall, you've started many polls yourself on a whim.

And what's your particular concern about voting on the worst 300 gamer? Why is it so disrespectful?! We vote on just about everything else on this board, and the implication will always be that someone is inferior to someone else, so why take exception with a poll that follows essentially the same principle?

*insert Facepalm picture here*

It seems people here aren't understanding the fact that any player that's achieved 300 games should be pictured as a well-respected player. Finding out the 'worst' one seems like the 300 club is being denounced. I suppose it's a preference after all.

*Facepalm* indeed. We understand what you're saying alright, we just don't seem to be getting upset by it like you are.

Anyway, tell me why exactly a 300-game player SHOULD, as if by default, be regarded as a well respected player to the point where punters on an internet forum ought to refrain from selecting the least worthy of them?

As you yourself suggested, they have demonstrated endurance and dedication to get to 300 games. Is it not an interesting question to consider who among them might have done so on the back of more dedication and less skill?

Ben hart. shouldve gone in 2004 and didn't know when to give up, eventually being delisted.

Such ignorance.

311 games, 45 goals (as a back pocket/medium defender)
AFL Rookie of the Year - 1992
All-Australian Team - 1992, 1993, 1999, 2002
AFC Club Champion - 1999, 2002
Premiership Player - 1997, 1998

No offence to Rohan Smith, Johnny Blakey, Marcus Ashcroft, Mick Martyn, Barry Breen or others, but cripes - Benny was unquestionably elite.

i read all that before i voted. great at the time. I still posit that he should have retired in 04 and was too pigheaded to know when to give up.

It is a shit poll and I feel bad for voting.

Lulz at the people that voted for Shannon Grant.

I can't believe people would vote for Grant, he was solid for pretty much the whole 300 games.

People of BF have such poor memories.

And what the hell is the big fish doing on that list. He was a superstar from the word go, got cut down by a knee injury, game back and was still a gun forward, then changed clubs only to be the best ruckman in the comp and mananged over 300 games in the process. He is in Hawthorn's team of the century FFS and he played 2/3 of his games at Essendon. That is pretty impressive.

Anyone that says Ben Hart is showing their ignorance, was a super footballer.

Not even gonna bother amusing the guy that started the poll with a vote because its one of the worst polls i have ever seen.

and anyone who says that it's any player on the list is showing ingorance. it's just a bit of fun anyway.

So that makes him the worst 300 game player? Was a superstar of the AFL
