Great first half at Newport, massive crowd, barely any space around the fence. Newport well on top, foot speed and ball movement too much for Spotty, left at HT. Looks like I missed a big last qtr from Spotty. Newport look a good side, will be decent in D1.

Spent 2nd half at Altona, who were close enough to Hoppers at 3QT. Hoppers just too good, more direct, better skills, Altona as like last year was indirect, go wide and overuse the ball, won't make the 5.

Good to see ex AFL field umpire Troy Pannell umpiring at Newport.

Went to the Sunshine V Parkside game today. Expected a bigger crowd as Sunshine were going to unfurl their 3 premiership flags and the weather was perfect. The seniors game was hard fought but Parkside were a bit too big and too polished. They lead all day and eventually won by about 7 goals. Sunshine kicked some great goals and never gave up but Parkside too good today. Took my camcorder with me and will upload some vision on this site in a couple of days. Here's a pic of Sunshine's 3 flags.

Lachie Hunter didn’t play, not sure why. Bachar held up well, was a little rusty but you expect that after 3 years off and coming off injuries post car accident.

I thought Altona was the better side in the 1st half by some margin, and had they been able to convert, the game would have been just about over.

Altona's best will be very good. Consistency and lack of depth will be their problems. Based on a sample size of 1 to be fair

Lachie Hunter didn’t play, not sure why. Bachar held up well, was a little rusty but you expect that after 3 years off and coming off injuries post car accident.

Heard from Spotty people near me say Hunter pulled out late in the week with "a back". Who knows if true.

Thought Bachar rallied his troops, good verbally with them, directing and encouraging, great pick up for Newport. Still in good shape, interesting to see if his body holds up over a full season.

Spotswood junior 12 years old fully grown would take the ball on the full back line bounce and baulk to the forward line and kick a goal untouched by opponents lol.
