Young star considering boycotting draft

Reading the Sunday Times in Perth , Coniglio was saying that he is still undecided but is considering by passing the 2011 draft and instead continuing a degree at UWA and take an opportunity to play Grade cicket in Perth and further explore his cricket options .

Coniglio says with his father he is very impressed with the GWS setup but is undecided , ..... so maybe 2012 draft , where he will end up at GWS or GC anyway . :o

If he waits till next year , nearly all the clubs will love it it just adds to this draft being a super one and pushes another player down closer to the next club

But it does sort of deny that he will more than likely endup at GWS or GC unless... he gives footy a big miss next year. Almost give football the bypass and he may slip a bit considering how deep the 2012 draft will be . Would be risky , and we are talking a big financial windfall.

Why dont you just make it clear you will walk on the club in a year, i doubt they will want to draft you then...

Because thats draft tampering and against the rules.

Spewing if you are drafted in the top 5. Your options will be GWS and Port adelaide....

Port Adelaide is worse, the kid getting drafted there at 4 will be very unlcuky.

Or Port!:o They'll have the first priority pick next year.

Could he potentially not nominate for the ND and instead simply nominate for the PSD and/or rookie draft in a bid to avoid being drafted by GWS? If that is indeed his issue. Not trolling, just trying to work out the rules.

Not allowed. Pretty sure only older players are allowed to nominate solely for the PSD - everyone else must nominate for the national draft first.

What happened with Liam Jurrah? Was he overlooked in the ND?

If he is happy to cop losing atleast 80k in the first year alone (assuming he plays a atleast a few games).....fair enough he really doesnt want to move to sydney

doesn't want to leave his mumsy or fweinds in Perth, its so insular in Perth any other city is like another planet to the white trash over there.

Why don't GWS just organise a best possible trade for the kid?

To be honest, if I had a chance for either top line cricket or AFL I'd choose cricket.

You can represent your country, the money on offer from the professional leagues is huge and the longevity is more attractive.

But will he play topline cricket? I read here a while ago that he was overlooked for a contract by the WACA.

Given this latest article I re-read the one about him missing a contract. Basically the WACA didn't offer any of their Under 17s WA team a contract. Two of those made the team of the championships, Coniglio wasn't one of them. So he'd be at least third in line from that team, you'd think (unless he fits a need - I don't know what he plays as). I guess that could change if he focuses on cricket full time.

Why is Port Adelaide worse than GWS?

Is it like Kruezer and Murphy being unlucky because they were drafted by Carltank after they had won consecutive spoons :o

Pretty much, except Carlton has a rich history and strong supporter base, meaning we were always going to bounce back, while no-one cares about Port (even their bay covers :o:o:o) and would fold if it wasn't for the AFL needing x2 teams in Adelaide for the sake of TV rights.

36 flags, 36,000 members and 140 years of history not enough for you
