Good breakdown!
So looking over it ruck is horrible one of the worst depth charts in the league Naismith and Nankervis would want to kick on or have we got a couple of curries- pyke and drex are serviceable options at best this is our weakest area
Tall forwards- left Reid out and put him in utilities i notice, hope horse does the same or better yet moves him to the defence list, pretty good area though as silly as it sounds sometimes feels like the money for the 2 guns could be spent on four really good key forwards for instance. Can anyone who has seen Davis see him developed as a key defender in the future? I would probably put old 2015 goodes in this list possibly though guess he does not play tall.
Small forwards- id argue this mcglynn is a midfielder now and id swap him into that group and brandon jack here, as thats the only way i see brandon jack in the seniors, this area is basically where we rest a midfielder, unless hiscox is a gun small forward we dont have one.
Defenders > 192cm
2 good players and should be ok for 2015 though as many say Teds decline is of concern. But with AJ basically off this list the depth is bare, which it was this year lets face it, LRT and Walsh were spuds in 2014, better hope for no injuries at all. Need to get some games into XR and Aliir at some stage this year IMO
Defenders <191cm not a bad list if they keep developing and shaw can hold on some how as far as depth goes its ok, losing malceski hurts of course, wonder if Mcveigh will be back there? but still not our worst area of depth though a guy like Rohan who showed promise late is affected rightly or wrongly in my mind by his last game... so i have a concern over those types
Midfielders- didnt worry about their heights this obviously our best depth area, though hope kids like heeney hewett and co have a bit of zip as we have a few plodders in there, suspect some of this group have to be prepared to be half back options and or goal kicking options to fill the side, but this is an area of strength now and looks promising for the future imo. Jetta last not sure if deliberate but on his last game id add a space before his name if it is in order.
Utilities
Goodes yeah pity its not goodes from 3 years ago at least, Reid as a utility implies he is useful, towers gets a bum rap round here but he could come good. Id move Reid back
Im not totally worried about the midfield ( still very young ) even though they did get a touch up at times ( From Hawks more so ) , still think its one of the best in the comp if not the best.
I do agree that It lacks pace and a little class and we might have a few of the same types but I think we will add to that midfield with Mitchell ( I know he doesn't add speed but at least we can say his hands are elite/class ) and Heeney/Hewett . No clue who they drop.
Im pretty excited to see Heeney and I know he has not even played a game at AFL LEVEL but imo he will be a jet and will make an impact straight of the bat.
The kid just has it all
Contested marking
Very good clearance player and his break away speed from the contest is something else and something we really dont have atm.
Lays Tackles and loves the hard ball much like Mitchell.
He seems to pride himself on his ball use on both sides of his body and it shows ( this is the big thing for me ), he kicks extremely well on both sides and not because he is coming to us but imo he has the best skills out of any of the mids in this years draft.
He is the complete mid , plays inside and out and at 187cm 85kg he is ready to roll.
Now go do it all at AFL level please . Lets hope he can
Hewett is ready imo to , another one with skills on both sides and stands at 185cm
Defence has issues as we know ( Ted getting on 32 and not much depth atm in the KD area ) and will Reid move back or will Horse continue him forward , your thoughts ?. Would need every bit of the pre season to get ready.
Still think McVeigh will play multiple roles and not just be cemented at HB but if he is I still think he uses the ball better than Mal anyway coming out of defence/kick outs etc ( Mal is a big loss though but it might make us less predicable ) and Shaw will be covered by Jones etc so im not to worried about him.
Rampe to Mals role is another thing we can look at ?
Will they play 2 rucks ? . No idea why some think I don't like Pyke I just think he needs more help much like 2013 when he was in very good form with the help from Mummy a sharing the ruck loads. Pyke is also 31 and I don't think we can let him shoulder as much as much next year as 2014 and Reid isn't a ruckmans arsehole.
Can Tippett help more or will they leave him at FF and take the pressure of Buddy/Goodes etc.
If there to play 2 rucks I would go with a Nankervis more so than a Derickx as he is a skilled big man and more so a 2nd ruck/forward with his contested marking ( which Horse seems to love and suits the high ball ) while forward. Doesn't mean he will not develop in a num 1 ruck.
If it was to happen I cant see Reid staying forward
