What players will be available in the PSD and who do you think we will take?
Don't think we'll take anyone TBH; list spots are still fairly tight and we're better off filling them with kids.

The PSD suits challenging teams more because allows you to fill list spots with ready-mades...

McKernan/Hunt on the RL.

I really want to see us land a key back this draft, particularly if we have plans to play Bruce forward. Our key position depth down back is non existent. I like McDonald but I think it is just a little bit too much of a stretch given the quality that is still likely to be around at pick 21/22. However, I would probably be happy to use that pick on either of Marchbank or Goddard.

I have redone the draft order literally 100 times and I am starting to think there is a actually a pretty good chance that one of Marchbank or Goddard actually does slide, particularly if some or all of the following rumours floated around turn out to be true:

1. Adelaide want McKenzie - This one makes a lot of sense, given that they were willing to downgrade from 10 to 14;
2. Clem Smith is wanted by Gold Coast with pick 15- Would be surprised personally, but happy if this is true. Don't think he is worth a top 20 pick;
3. Carlton are interested in Lamb. Would also be happy with this. I am no draft expert, but the mere comparison from others to Watts without the foot skills has completely spooked me. No thanks.

If the above rumours turn out to be true, there are only 17 picks left, take out Heeney and you have 16. I reckon there are too many other highly fancied players for 4 key backs (Lever, Durdin, Goddard, Marchbank), to be selected with the remaining 16 picks. Therefore I am guessing that Goddard or Marchbank is squeezed out of the top 20. Otherwise one of Duggan, DeGoey, Langford, Cockatoo, Ahern, Weller, Pickett etc. has to slide. It would be great if we could nab one of these guys, but it is less likely.

Under this scenario the following players would still be left: Maynard, Marchbank, Ellis, Garlett, Blakely, Neal-Bulleen, Menadue, Vickers-Willis. I reckon we take Maynard & Marchbank if those options are available.

For our third rounder, I reckon we are a good chance to nab one of: DVR, Touk Miller, McDonald Wigg, Webb, McLean.

Wrapping up, I reckon we could walk away with Petracca, Maynard, Marchbank & McLean. That would be a fricking awesome draft.
Thanks for doing the hard yards saintbill. From someone who is "no draft expert" either, my intuition says you're analysis is spot on.

Another interpretation of your argument is that it may come down to ....
21 - McKenzie or Marchbank?
22 - Cockatoo or Ellis?
Haven't released a mock for this year yet, will be released in a few weeks. Still getting all my profiles done (Petracca here http://madmondayshow.com/2014/10/28/christian-petracca-player-profile/), this draft is going to be one of the most open in recent years.
Rahul, given you have McKenzie and Cockatoo ahead of Marchbank and Ellis, but have 2 players in your top 22 who probably will slide below all of them - Nelson and Miller - who squeezes into 21 and 22?
Cockatoo and Marchbank?

In any event, welcome to the Saints to the Tattooed Terminator, big Tim Membrey...

Has anyone seen a lot of Membry play? If so who would he be likened to?
Best bet would be the man who goes by the name of Rors. Not sure how much NEAFL he's seen though.

We just got rid of Nahas, haven't you delisted Schneider?
Yep, in the exact same way that you have Delaney. We're going to pick him up in the Rookie list. So, tell you what, if we take Delaney, you can take Schneids, and we'll call it even.

Just on those linked to us, is it just me or

Mckernan- poor man's stanley
Petrenko- poor mans saad (granted I rate saad higher than most)
Hunt- better version of tom curren

More or less; although McKernan is a bit different to Stanley as Rhys was a potential freak player who couldn't really muster a well-rounded game.

You could also look at it as:
McKernan - better cover than Maister
Petrenko - better cover than Milera
Hunt - offers same job with better potential than Jones

Just said in another thread; there's a fair chance none of the 4 on our rookie list this year are true rookies. Given the volume of development players on our list (see fest, future, Sept 2014) we seem likely to use it as a reserves list instead.
Forces the coach's hand in that all our backups are going to be kids, so any injury or form issues will result in a young player getting their chance. But any major injury issues will result in a mature player being promoted to fill the gap short-term.
Seems fairly sensible actually.

All I know is that Sam Petrevski-Seton is supposed to be very very good. Will get to have a better look at the bottom
agers next year as they come through the U18 Champs and the like.

Described as a 'rare talent'... But the media dubs players this all the time.

In the U16 Champs he averaged 21 disposals, 5 clearances and 2.33 goals a game (7 goals in 3 games). Is 182cm 72kg midfielder who can play forward at the moment. Two more years of growing and could end up a very good size around 185-188cm. One to look for next year as an underager.

Cam Delaney delisted by North. 12 months ago their BF board was happy to see Luke go because Cam was going to be better..

Wouldn't mind giving him a rookie spot
Edit: North plan to rookie him. Doesn't mean we can't get in first..

Depends - maybe Luke was happy to step away from his brother and get on with a focus on his own career.

Lets not start a precedence of ******* other clubs with rookie downgrades when we ourselves are doing the exact same thing with Schneiderman.

Is it not the risk you take? Other clubs would be free to take Schneider. Don't see it being that different to us taking Mav Weller in the 2nd round last year; he trained with us but we had to specific right to him.

Membrey is going to picked up as a delisted free agent. Does that mean if delisted another person we could still pick up someone else in the pre season draft as the number one pick?

How did NB test for speed? Someone raised the likeness to Swan when he arches his back and darts off. In his clips, he appears to have a bit of zip off the mark. Certainly not just a plodder insider. But that's no expert opinion - interested in views.
Would be quite happy with at 21-22.
From what I've read he tested very poorly for speed at the combine. He is an "endurance beast" though.

Interesting options if we want to get an "inside mid" with one of 21 or 22.

You have the shorter Neal-Bullen, who is slow (at least on paper), but specialises in the clearances, racks up the possies and has elite endurance and OK kicking, then you have Blakely, who is also very good in close and with the clearances and so-on, also OK, but not great with his kicking, reputedly excellent at getting out of traffic and who is now apparently getting very close to the 190cm mark (very appealing to many these days, as midfields get bigger) and then you have Gore, who is also sub-6-foot, like NB, but is the opposite of NB in that he is really powerful and quick and has a very good leap, but is not so good with the endurance (although not terrible, just not good). He looks to have clearly the best kicking of those 3 though, apparently blitzing the kicking and goalkicking tests at the combine.

I really want to see us land a key back this draft, particularly if we have plans to play Bruce forward. Our key position depth down back is non existent. I like McDonald but I think it is just a little bit too much of a stretch given the quality that is still likely to be around at pick 21/22. If Goddard slipped to pick 21 I would snap him up so fast it wouldn't be funny. He is getting ridiculously underrated in various places now, IMO, especially if what Knightmare says (that he had a hip op over the preseason, which could have greatly affected his season) is correct. He can play footy, has good athleticism and is a really good size. He wasn't widely spoken about for a long time (up until about a year ago) as a good chance to go no.1 in this draft for no reason.

Has anyone seen a lot of Membry play? If so who would he be likened to?
Probably a 2 inch shorter and much better kicking version of McCartin, but with more scope to play further away from goal.

Don't think we have room to take anyone.

We can still rookie someone.

Could in theory go:
Delaney
McKernan
Hunt
Petrenko

And have them all on the rookie list, ready to upgrade as soon as there's an injury.

We can't sign any DFA now we've signed Membrey, as those have to go straight onto the senior list, and ours is full.

Taylor Hunt's career will continue at Richmond next year, with the Tigers set to sign the delisted Geelong midfielder as a free agent.

Hunt had spoken with West Coast since being cut by the Cats, and had also accepted an invitation to start pre-season training with St Kilda next week.

While the Eagles were in a position to offer Hunt a position in the club's primary list, it is understood the 24-year-old preferred to stay in Victoria if possible.

St Kilda, which has also invited delisted Adelaide pair Shaun McKernan and Jared Petrenko to train, would most likely only have been able to offer Hunt a rookie-list spot.

Has anyone seen a lot of Membry play? If so who would he be likened to?

Membrey has run hot in the NEAFL kicking 104 goals in two seasons, including five majors in last month’s grand final.

Membrey has been likened to West Coast’s Jack Darling.

Former Gippsland Power coach Nick Stevens believes Membrey is a better shot on goal than ex-Blues spearhead Brendan Fevola

Hope we pick none of the above
