Re: 2010 NFL Pre-Draft: Gossip, Theories, News, Opinions

Well, what i wanted to do with that post was get everyone else to post what they were looking forward to for their teams. Like there are plenty of Raider fans on here, and we're all gonna say soemthing different. So Im just keen to hear who everyone else is hoping gets called out for your team, whatever round.

....

—”Appearing on Mike and Mike in the Morning Friday, ESPN’s Chris Mortensen mentioned Darren McFadden as a player that might surprisingly be traded over the next three days. McFadden came up as Mort was naming players on the block, beginning with Albert Haynesworth and ending with unsigned restricted free agent Shawne Merriman. Merriman, though, can’t be traded until he inks his one-year tender. The No. 6 overall pick in 2008, McFadden has already missed seven games due to injury in his first two seasons and averaged just 3.9 yards a carry”—

Ok, my wishlist.

1) Trade up for one of the elite safeties, preferably Berry. This would drastically transform our already being rebuilt defense.

2) Cornerback. Really need to replace Sheldon Brown. Need a player who can play this year, incase Hobbs/Marlin Jackson etc cant get the job done or stay on the field.

3) DE/LB. Still have need at both positions, and if we can get a serious starter early, do it. Trades for Tapp, and Sims kind of ease the pressure, but there are question marks over both, so id definetely like some serious competition.

4) A fast RB. McCoy is a good, versatile back, with great recieving skills. Bell, and Weaver can do the bruising work. None of them are exactly super fast though Id really like a guy with home run ability to add to the backfield and complement the other guys. Dont expect it though.

Re: 2010 NFL Pre-Draft: Gossip, Theories, News, Opinions

If used like R.Bush he would. I think the Raiders coaches determined he'd make a better WR than strictly a RB, and thus his potential lies in being a scat-back if he remains a "RB" by definition. As those types only are bit-players, I'd support him getting traded. Eg, I'd rather an every-down MLB than what we have in McFadden at this point.

Re: 2010 NFL Pre-Draft: Gossip, Theories, News, Opinions

Would absolutely support the Eagles making a play at him. Still think he could be a superstar at the right franchise.

I actually think McFadden would do well at the Eagles.

We just haven't used him correctly at all, trying to run him up the middle is one thing, but trying to run him up the middle with a non-existent oline .. i mean cmon!

Also he hasn't been that durable the past 2 seasons with turf toe/knee issues .. but he is fast, has very soft hands and gives 100% all the time .. I would be dissapointed if he gets traded, but sometimes players just need a new environment (if McFadden gets traded, I can see us making a play for Best, as per his quote "I have Raider speed")

well in that case ...

DE/DT and CB in the first and second. I want Odrick since I think he really fits our scheme and compliments Ngata, and we need cornerbacks because our two starters are coming off ACLs . there's a number of second round cornerbacks available if we miss out on Wilson or McCourty, so if we get one in the second on top of a DE/DT that would be perfect. then somehow find a way to trade back into the 3rd or 4th (come on somebody wants Troy Smith, right? :(), if not use our two fifths on an ILB or pass rush OLB in case Suggs get into the cakes again, and a project WR. the remaining sixth rounder on a depth position - a versatile interior lineman would be good since Birk is no spring chicken.

defensive depth is the major one for Baltimore this year since Kelly Gregg is 33 and Trevor Pryce 35, that's two of our three starting D-linemen, and we lost two in free agency. Ray Lewis is 35 and Ed Reed won't be in the game much longer, if he even comes back. first and second round must go on the defence.

Re: 2010 NFL Pre-Draft: Gossip, Theories, News, Opinions

Berry is a gun, would Eagles getting Mays make you as happy, STKO?

Well, if we get him by staying still in the draft i wont be mad i spose.

The worry is though, his coverage skills are very suspect, and our blitzing schemes require safeties to be able to cover one on one. If we wanted a safety who can make big plays by playing as a psuedo lineman and smashing people, but struggles in coverage, we let one of the best of all time, who can still play, go not a year ago.

Re: 2010 NFL Pre-Draft: Gossip, Theories, News, Opinions

Apex, there have been a number of games where the Raiders OL DID carve a hole for McFadden and he simply hasn't the grit or whatever to make yards. It hasn't been all bad OL play and McFadden has been this stud hampered by them.

Where McFadden is good is how STKO mentioned----screens. I know you know that too, Apex. But just as a RB in any way, he's useless imo.

Mays is suspect in that sense. He'd convert well to LB, and Berry would be a top SS, but also convert well to CB, as he has the right skill-set for that. Ie. the coverage skills you long for exist in Berry, as you know.

I think the fact the Eagles just cleared out their 'extra-LB safety' is a good indication they're looking for more of a coverage specialist.

Theres an element of shell shock though RB wise. If you get used to the line not creating anything, eventually you lose the ability to hit the holes properly.

Put him behind a line that gives him something from the beginning, and let him get his confidence up and hed be an entirely different prospect imo.

Re: 2010 NFL Pre-Draft: Gossip, Theories, News, Opinions

ah yeah I know, but there's just enough mocks (including ones lots of people actually read :p) out there with us taking Gresham. it's been annoying me for ages. :p

I think Gresham's one of the first round rated players to fall to the second because of his position, there's not enough value in it. particularly when it is supposed to be a very deep defensive class.
Personally I'd have no problem taking Gresham, of the players that within reason could fall to us I'd like to see us take either Dez Bryant, Jared Odrick, Kyle Wilson or Jermaine Gresham (in that order)

Bryant is the only WR we should consider I reckon, if he happens to fall that far which seems unlikely, with Odrick, I'm a great believer in the front 7 being your best form of pass defence, so D-line more crucial than secondary IMO

When he first joined the Raiders, even though he was known more as a permiter threat, we use to run him up the middle all the time, and he would hit the hole HARD .. lately, he has been trying to dance around = tackle for a loss ..

I would be disappointed if the Raiders traded him, but wouldn't be surprised. If the Raiders traded him, I expect us to try and move up from the second to get Best. Or we may go and draft CJ Spiller..

I like the look and sound of Campbell at 39?

Quote-
Then, according to ESPN, Davis' phone rang Wednesday and the Steelers wanted to know if he was interested in suspended quarterback Ben Roethlisberger for the No. 8 pick today. Roethlisberger last month was accused of sexually assaulting a 20-year-old college student in Georgia but will not face charges.
Is the trade rumor true? Who knows? Who will the Raiders pick today? Only the guy in the all-white jumpsuit knows.

Re: 2010 NFL Pre-Draft: Gossip, Theories, News, Opinions

Either Spiller or Best would be better imo because you can see on film how they maintain their feet under them, fight yards out with them trying to maintain their feet under them. McFadden was ALWAYS a one-cut runner, and then just accelerating thru or beyond the lurking DBs. Whilst F.Jones always carved out yards by juking and shifting thru traffic.

To me, when looking for a potential RB, that ability to juke and shift thru traffic alone is what one should look for.

Hey Zarko,

http://www.nationalfootballpost.com/Giants-plotting-a-trade-up-for-Spiller.html

Looks like Giants may opt take Spiller .. problem is Seattle may try to take him with their second first round pick which is at #14 ...

If Spiller falls to 8, do you think its plausible if Giants make a trade with the Raiders, say .. Raiders 8th and a conditional pick for 15 and Osi :p
