Continued in Part 2

Thought kind of most approriate here.

Saw a Swans supporter with a great scarf which would be perfect for us. It was a soccer style writing down the centre with Sydney Swans on one side with the Swans logo and South Melbourne on the other with the old South Melbourne swan logo. Given out history and the fact that like myself a lot of fans still hold an love of Fitzroy/Bears, the club should come out with a similar sort of scarf one with Fitzroy on the reverse and one with Brisbane Bears on reverse.

What do others think?

I don't mind the idea. I myself have constructed a makeshift merger scarf. I've taken a Bears scarf and sewn Fitzroy patches to it.

Goes alright.

Probably already noted, but we could quite possibly have an all Qld draft/recruitment year - E.g. first two picks given for Danye Beams and the rest on academy players. You'd think it would be an impossible scenario even this time last week.

Clayton would be the only one not from Qld.

Either way, I hope no lions supporters have pre-booked their tickets to draft night!

no to Arizona apparently - due to timing with the start of the season next year with the international cricket competition in Australia. A lot of teams are not going overseas for this reason. No idea what they are doing though.

I heard a camp at Noosa, but that might be a regular thing I think.

It used to be the venue for those left behind didn't it? That was pre last year when they decided all would go to the US. Shame if they don't do a trip again, from reports it was great for team building, not to mention fitness.

From memory, I think the huge cost of the US trip compared to the incremental gains in fitness was a big part of why they shelved it. I'm sure they'll do some kind of trip closer by since as you say, the bonding part of it is probably pretty important for player retention. In that respect, a nearer trip might allow them to take new draftees along, which I don't believe they did for the Arizona trips.

They can scale Mt Gravatt.
Mt Gravatt also has a Bob Jane's where they can flip tractor tyres.
Used to ride up Mt Gravatt, was a decent trip for a young tacker, probably not much of a challenge for AFL players.

Did Vossy win his fight? He said he "got through upright"

Sorry to intrude...I didnt know where to put this so thought this was the logical thread.

why did Vossy get the sack from Brisbane and what was his strength and weaknesses. Do you think he has what it takes to be a successful senior coach if given a 2nd chance?

He won't do it, I'm sure. He's having way too much fun in the media.

Others may have differing opinions, but I think he was sacked because he couldn't pull the team out of the bottom few with several years at the helm ... and the misguided fact that our previous Board thought that they'd nabbed Paul Roos towards the end of his contract.

Personally, I think he's a very direct and very strong-minded guy which may work for some groups, and may not for others. I'm very happy that we have Leppa as coach now as he's a really level headed guy, but I place the blame for Vossy's demise solely on the Board.

I really doubt he'd consider any coaching job at all.

Yeah don't think he'd be a good fit for the doggies. In a similar mode to Macca probably, demands very high standards, is pretty intense and immensely professional. Sounds like the doggies players don't cope well with that.

Yeah hard to tell. Depends what you guys decide you need. A family, culture orientated person might be what's necessary for a while. There are different views on these sorts of things but maybe a development orientated coach is needed first then a finals specialist (seems to have been the MO in a lot of clubs lately). A chocco or even McKenna type probably wouldn't be the worst thing for you.
