Not at Avalon. The proposed facility will be within the airport boundary. Sounds like what they want to do in Toowoomba too. That takes one of the biggest risks straight out of the equation. They fly in and then stay there on site until their time is up.

Who will run it? Isnt the problem the ancillary staff, the cleaners etc in Melbourne? To me that screams bad management & Melbourne is a stand out performer.

and yet, the feds are saying no

To where, Avalon?

my concern is our history of running large scale camps like this isnt exactly glowing. having 10k-15k people locked in portable mining cabins for most of the day is a recipe for trouble.

Why would they need to be locked in a room / cabin for most of the day? You have them sorted and housed by day / date. You test them when they come in and lock them down. If they're negative, you let them out into a compound for fresh air and exercise. You test them again a few days later and lock them down, a negative comes back, they're out and about their compound again. If they're positive, you move them to another compound that houses the infected only.

no, toowoomba - feds still saying no to that (and qld has been pushing for a couple of weeks now)

there is a reason they have to quarantine over 14 days. if they just got infected there is a chance they will not test positive yet. you cannot let people mingle because it means none of them get out until everyone in that cluster has tested negative for 14 days.

Ha ha ha ha as if ScoMo will do anything and take a risk, far easier to write cheques, empahise with us and talk about the vaccine that does not work on the new strains.

I call ScoMo, **** on a bull.
The mRNA vaccine is capable of being modified to account for new strains.

Partly based on subjective feelings, the language used in pressers, and conversation I've had with someone who claims to have an inside source.

Mostly guesswork. We'll see.

my worry was the thousands of contacts a few of these peeps had been exposed to - math like that can go anywhere.

sites are going up, but only by handfuls so far

still a ways to go, big two days to come (fingers crossed)

Regardless of practicalities the remote quarantine idea seems to be gaining steam.

Surely a quarantine system where a) travellers are confined to a closed room and b) staff aren’t mixing with the general public is preferable to what we’ve seen with the various breaches.

you are segregating staff from their friends and family who work the camp/s?

i agree its the best way to manage the risk, but you will severely limit applicants if 1) they have to come to a remote region, and 2) they cannot socialize with anyone outside the camp

I think we have sufficient evidence to conclude that HQ in Melbourne isn't a viable option. I'd be more than happy to see it canned for good.

For the right money, I'll do it.

As i said yesterday the HS or Age haven't run with lockdown easing/ extending so i'd say its on a knifes edge.

Likely think the call will be made wednesday morning, depending on if there have been any community transmission outside of the Holiday Inn/ function.

I still think that travellers should be able to quarantine at home (at the very least if they're coming from low risk countries). It won't happen though unless NSW is willing to trial it because the LNP's media outlets will blow things up as soon as anything goes wrong in a Labor-ran state. Worldwide the average daily case number has gone from about 745K to 390K in the last five weeks. Case numbers are way down through North America, Asia and most of Europe.

The Federal Government should run it, they can staff it with AFP, PSOs, Border Force, Customs and ADF. Ancillary staff can be employed by the Commonwealth so that they have better control. If Andrews kicks up a stink about it, they just tell him to * off, he's caused enough problems.

There's 100,000+ people do it weekly in the mines and the ADF. In you're in a remote region, who are you going to socialise with and what are you going to do? You're really clutching at straws with this one.

I've already got a job in the WA mines, but I'd consider something like this if it was offered up and the money was right.

They will want to wait the 14 days the virus runs for, i will be shocked and very happy if we come out of lockdown on Wednesday night, but i'm not expecting it. i can see the speech now we have heard many times " i know it's tough, we just have to stay the course a little longer against this wicked enemy, we have to take an abundance of caution, we think more virus is still out there " like a broken record. And if i'm wrong all the Danites can come at me no problems. He does not trust his health department despite the BS he spruiks in front of the cameras about them.

earning six figures as a miner is a lot different to $40k as a cleaner

its not the security thats the issue, its the cleaners, the nurses, the lawyers, the cops. all gigs where either they wont be paid a premium or its not worth it to them

Which is exactly what the Premier said today. Genuinely think they haven't made the call yet
