it takes time to verify the details (when we had some of these late in lockdown 2, it would take a number of days before they could determine if it was a new infection or just shedding).

also one thing that was touched on today that most people are not aware of if the issue of false negatives and false positives. the CMO is correct that these are rare, and they do happen. Its not about mismanagement or corruption or anything like that. sometimes you just get a shitty anomalous result. normally you clean these us with re-testing the retention sample, and maybe testing a b sample if the data is still unclear. this takes time however, and given the need for speed you dont want to hold tracers up waiting for verified results.

in terms of numbers, its a very small fraction of 1% that you get this sh*t happening for. with us doing so many tests, math says these will bob up from time to time.

Understand that it is tricky, and i'm far from an expert on this sort of stuff, but given we are reliant on these No's, why not take a little longer and say what they said yesterday we are still looking into this rather than calling it a positive. The tracers can still do the job in the back ground surely as a preventative measure.

This is actually normal practice, because safety is weighed more important than cost

For example, if you get a positive salmonella test on raw egg, legally you have to notify the health Dept. The farm is instructed to lockdown all stock relevant to that test, a whole bunch of extra work starts, and the original sample is retested.

Days matter. We are in a lockdown because one bloke had 300-400 direct contacts, and 7000 people flying to just NSW had indirect contact. Wait 5 days to check the data, and if positive the contact tracers job is impossible (as the horse has bolted)

Just spin and bullshit from this useless campaigner of a premier, it's clear his health system cannot handle this, and pretty much admits it when he says he wants international arrivals to be reduced to nothing basically. But stands up in front of camera's and since our system is wonderful.

Yep. some posters are comparing a situation which is still playing out with one which is over. cant they just wait?

Poor infection control
Poor governance
Poor leadership

The good news is their pockets aren't poor. They are full with your hard earned tax dollars.

And the muppets defending Andrews and telling you you're wrong? You're paying for their taxpayer funded jobs so they can sit at home on full pay and rant at you on twitter.

Isn't it great! Gold standard. :thumbsu:

Some perspective on Covid Management.

On December 21 NSW Health announced another 15 positives. Thats fifteen, not 0 or 2.
Links as widespread as Turramurra Erskineville and CBD.
In just 3 days time Gladys had already lifted the Xmas travel restrictions for half the Northern Beaches. In another week or so it was 100% lifted, and not long after that even the Avalon area restrictions lifted.
Spotfires in Woollongong and Berala.
Still no lockdowns. No threats. No grannies, teenage learner drivers or even pregnant women targetted.

The only "lockdown" (no police, not even a roadblock) was an area 0.03 of 1% of NSW containing about 3-4% of Sydney's population.

Can anyone here explain why the Mallee and Gippsland for instance are locked up ? virtually the same as if they were next to the Holiday Inn ?
With what we have now learnt and best practice covid management in NSW, can anyone here truly justify this jokers response for 0-2 cases per day and a tiny amount of localised community transmission ?

Why would you do that to your population ?

A little more perspective.

The daily cases in Vic had reached 150 before Gladys would even close the border. Then she gave everyone 2 and a half days to head across the border before closing it. All due to Dan's sheer incompetence of course.

This was the actual result. Note the caseload being managed in NSW at peak of Vics 2nd wave, with 2 1/2 days to flee from 150 per day...(not say 6 hrs to flee from 1or2 cases 1000km away).

It is well past time that Vics dropped the deliberate naivety and realised they are being 100% played.

NSW has learnt the hard way. It is still carrying the majority risk load for the nation and a state as big as Vic should be bloody well ashamed of its lack of leadership.

You dont burn your entire population to put out a barn fire, unless you believe it will earn you political points.

An amusing side point to this. On my way into Albury today, there are signs leading up to the border that you MUST have a permit to travel back into Victoria (still), yet from NSW back into Victoria, nothing. So the locked down state says you need a permit to come in, the non-lockdown state does not.

They move to a 2nd hotel, unless you can completely ring fence separate sections in this facility you can't just move people around within it if an outbreak happens

6000 is the weekly cap so doubling it for 2 weeks quarantine makes it 12,000

2,000 acres or 2,000,000m2 which works out to 167m2 per person. I'm sure they could work something out, s**t, people will build a 2 storey 4x2 townhouse on a block that size.

People that are not from NSW need to listen to Gladys in a presser when the inevitable questions come up about closing borders. She gives a good insight into hers and the NSW government's thought processes. It's not just slam the border shut because we've got a case, it's taking into consideration businesses, people's jobs, income, a child's education, peoples' mental wellbeing and the list goes on. I don't get that feeling here, Qld or in WA that any of the governments put the same thought process into their border closure decisions.

What a weak positive?

When we’re in lockdown they’re treated as a positive and when we’re not in lockdown they’re treated as a likely negative. They are the reason last time we had so many reclassified cases.

Most weak positives end up being negative on next test. This one has had 4 tests with different results!!!

Don’t watch the press conferences anymore but judging by social media Leigh Sales really upset Team Dan today!
Ironic that the journos the Dan Stans want to bully are all women.

Are all women. Well, that's definitely a weird generalisation lmao
Gabriella Power, Rachel Baxendale, Leigh Sales, Peta Credlin, Sumeyya Ilanbey. It’s not a generalisation, I’ve seen the Dan Stans actively go after all of them when Dear Leader gets remotely criticised by any of them.

Haven’t seen the same of Richard Willingham or Andrew Lund.

You joke, but people on twitter (lets call them the Neds of Twitter) have been accusing her of being a Murdoch plant / former murdoch journo.
i said it last year but the cult-like mindset, the screaming of 'fake news/murdoch propaganda', lame twitter memes and hashtags and conspiracy theories is getting more MAGA-like by the day.

If they say no to this and stick with Hotel Quarantine, it's a dereliction of duty.

Even if they don't ever get used this time. Keep them there on defence land for when the next strain is announced. And never go back to having no Quarantine Facilities. Ever.

They're saying it will take a month to have them up and running. This should have started a year ago.

(in the meantime, the twitchers can use the facilities. They love it down there).

They could have the HQ workers of Australia vaccinated before the first cabin is built!

Wagners who own Toowoomba Airportput a proposal to Sco Mo, he said hell no.
Qld Gov said yes,but need approval from Sco Mo.

That would rely on Vaccinations actually being rolled out in Australia. 40,000 doses just arrived. That's about one dose for every announcement the Commonwealth has made about vaccines.

Plus, there's no guarantee that next year won't see a COVID strain emerge which is not covered by the current vaccines.
