I have gone for needs ahead of best available

1. Gold Coast - David Swallow (Gold Coast VFL)

2. Gold Coast – Harley Bennell (Peel)

3. Gold Coast – Sam Day (Sturt)
These 3 boys will be selected from the start. Boring I know but no point selecting anyone else.

4. West Coast – Andrew Gaff (Oakleigh)
His ability to run all day that has no real deficiency. IMO best midfielder in the TAC Cup and West Coast need quality midfielders. Has the Daniel Rich feel as in he probably has not as much improvement in him. Underrated kick which West Coast lacks a lot of. Don’t be surprised if Polec goes as he is more of an outside mid.

5. Brisbane –Dyson Heppell (Gippsland)
Won a Morrish Medal after an excellent second half to the season that propelled to top 5 material. His left foot is a rocket launcher and will help Brisbanes HB line as Drummond plays 5 minutes a year.

6. Richmond – Jared Polec (Woodville West Torrens)
Undecided on who Richmond will take. Could easily select Gorringe or Lynch as for lack of ruck and key forward options, but I think Polec will be taken to add the rotations. Beautiful kick and will play on a wing.

7. Gold Coast –Josh Caddy (Northern)
Gold Coast will take Caddy with this pick. Courage and tough nut describe him brilliantly. Inside mid and will definitely be taken by the Bombers if not picked. Others that could go are Lynch or Atley.

8. Essendon – Sean Atley (Murray)
Essendon will do a Carlton 2009 and will select midfielder after midfielder. They will take the leftover midfielder out of the previous 4 picks and Atley suits well as he help Jobe Watson inside.

9. Gold Coast – Daniel Gorringe (Norwood)
Gold Coast will stock up with talls with next three picks and Gorringe has the potential (I hate that word) the best ruckman. Has a lot of mobility for his size, similar to a Dean Cox and won’t be a tapout king.

10. Gold Coast – Patrick McCarthy (Glenelg)
Key back that plays like a 6 foot HBF. Up there with Matt Watson for best key back but the mobility gets him.

11. Gold Coast – Tom Lynch (Dandenong)
Key forward which surprisingly Gold Coast lack. Ruckman height but moves well. Will take time to develop but he will get there.

12. Melbourne – Lucas Cook (North Ballarat)
Melbourne have lacked a key forward since Neitz. Is not a gorilla by any stretch of the means adn would swoop on Lynch if he manages to get here, but I expect Melbourne to go tall with their first pick. Jack Darling or Pat Karnezis could go here but they aren’t overly tall, or Ben Jacobs to release Jack Grimes into the middle.

13. Gold Coast – Jed Lamb (Gippsland)
According to the Nathan Buckley test he is the best kick. Small forward that kicked back to back 40+ goals in the TAC Cup. Has X factor. Ideally will want to play midfield later in his career but with the Gold Coast lack of forwards he may go this early. Ben Jacobs another option.

14. Adelaide – Brodie Smith (Woodville West Torrens)
Another high 180s midfielder that played defence in SANFL. Local boy and complements their midfield to a tee. Lycett could go here also but with them picking Sam Jacobs I have gone with a midfielder.

15. Geelong - Scott Lycett (Port Magpies)
With Brad Ottens only playing in September the last couple of years, losing Shane Mumford a year earlier, Mark Blake getting 4 possessions a year, I have decided to go Lycett. With Gorringe, is leaps and bounds ahead of any other ruckman and is more mobile than Blake, West and Simpson, which is key to having a 2nd ruckman with the new interchange rotations. Can play forward too, which might come in handy with Mooney and Pods 30+ by 2011. Isaac Smith, Billie Smedts and Luke Parker all options for the Cats.

16. Port Adelaide – Ben Jacobs (Sandringham)
This kid could go anywhere between 6-16. Roosts a long ball and will play half back. This will be the lowest he will go and a favourite of mine. Port Adelaide needs some cool heads in their defence, as well as an efficient kick. Smedts, Smith, Parker are all chances.

17. North Melbourne – Isaac Smith (Roosters)
Story of 2010, recruiting wise. From Redan to the big time in 12 months, this kid is a definition of a bolter. If not selected by Geelong, Smith will be swooped by North Melbourne. Played in the VFL flag in 2010 as a tall winger with speed. He could be some of Gerald FitzGeralds best work. Parker, Hallahan and Pitt all choices.

18. Carlton – Jack Darling (West Perth)
Hardest player to decide where he would go. Could be taken by one of the here Gold Coast but as low as 30. Was meant to be top 3 but has slided dramatically. Not growing hasn’t enhance his prospects and could be an option for Brisbane at 25 to play as that medium forward to help Brown, Fevola and Banfield, but I have gone for Carlton as their only key forwards are Henderson and O’Hailpin. Watson is a massive chance to go here too.

19. Hawthorn – Mathew Watson (Calder)
If not picked up by the Blues, Hawthorn will be salivating at this prospect. Hawthorn have lacked a tall back in 2009 and 2010 and Watson is more of a traditional full back than full back. Taller and heavier than McCarthy. Big kick as well.

20. Fremantle – Mitch Hallahan (Dandenong)
What to make of Freo. Originally had Seb Tape coming to them but the addition of Peter Faulks from Williamstown changed my mind, and with the inpending inclusion of John Anthony, midfield is where I’ll choose. Hallahan is a tough inside mid and is all class. A lot of people have him sliding but I like Hallahan. They could easily go local with Conca, Chalwell or even Darling if slides.

21. Sydney – Luke Mitchell (Calder)
With Jesse White playing a little in the capital and Daniel Bradshaw not getting any younger, a tall forward is needed at the harbour city. A big unit at 198cm and 96kgs and kicks goals, which is needed. Played well in the GF for the Cannons. Carlton, Melbourne and Richmond could do worse than selecting him either. Smedts, Harper or Conca all chances if they decide mid.

22. Bulldogs – Mitch Wallis (Calder) FS
If Dale Thomas was selected at pick 2 on the back of 38 possessions in his Grand Final for Gippsland, by that same logic Mitch Wallis is an absolute steal. Easily a top 20, Bulldogs have a gem of a player. Inside mid who will assist Boyd and Cross in the engine room. Had 47 disposals in the GF.

23. Geelong – Billie Smedts (Geelong Falcons)
He could easily be gone by the Cats first pick. Less flamboyant than Brodie Smith which will lower him but could be a great player. If I had not based my draft on needs he would be a top 15 pick for sure. Will be a replacement for Corey Enright. Tape, Pitt or even a Josh Green could be selected.

24. St Kilda – Dion Prestia (Calder)
Would not be surprised if he is selected at pick 8. His pace would be an asset for St Kilda which is lacking from their midfield. Is ready to play in Round 1. Prestia’s foot skills are underrated and can play both inside and out.

25. Brisbane – Luke Parker (Dandenong)
Lenny Hayes mould. He eats clearances for breakfast. Runs all day and is tough. Speed is an issue and Brisbane may be thinking a Prestia to combat that, but Black and Power are coming to an end of their brilliant careers.

26. West Coast – Jayden Pitt (Oakleigh)
Injuries this year will see him slide, but West Coast are looking for quality midfielders and he is one of them. Did well at the champs and could go to GC with one of their 57 early picks. Conca, Harper, Cripps all options.

27. North – Kieran Harper (Eastern)
With the Campbell Brown pick North will select Harper. Has first round written all over him but inconsistency is a factor. He does have that X factor with great leap and super fast. Will most likely go higher. If not available then they will look at Tape to help Scott Thompson down back.

28. Brisbane – Patrick Karnezis (Oakliegh)
Perfect foil for Brown and Fev. A mid forward option that fills the void. Could easily slip to the mid 60s but certainly a worthwhile selection. Brisbane could take another midfielder or even Jack Darling with this pick.

29. West Coast – Rhys Conca (Perth)
Freo could take him at 20 but Conca is a beauty. Excellent season in the Colts as well as about 4 games in the seniors off. Nothing special about him but just gets the job and will play around 15 games.

30. Richmond – Tyler Chalwell (East Fremantle)
After gaining the best midfielder available, the Tigers will draft Chalwell, who can play anywhere on the ground. Forward could be the way if he makes it to the Tigers to assist Riewoldt. Other forwards that the Tigers could look at the pick 30 mark are Steinberg, Guthrie or even a Callum Sinclair from Port Melbourne.

31. Essendon – Warwick Andreoli (South Freo)
Another midfielder that can use the ball. Andreoli is a winger which the Dons do not need so much but his skills on the skills do assist them. Cripps and Green both have cases to get selected here.

32. Brisbane – Sam Crocker (Oakliegh)
Charger midfielder that was not always selected but has got some game. His ability through traffic and his foot skills are underrated. Will slot in the Lions mid nicely. Could slide to the rookie draft. Cripps a chance.

33. Melbourne – Jamie Cripps (East Freo)
Lindsay Gilbee clone. Half back flanker that gives run out of the back 50 and can use the ball very well. Melbourne desperately want Grimes to join their youthful centre and Cripps does that for them. Mitchie, Fasolo, Guthrie all possibilities.

34. Carlton – Seb Tape (Glenelg)
If Carlton selects Watson with 18, Tape will go elsewhere. Tall defender but but possibly a little small at 191cm to be a key post, but did a job on Jack Darling which boosted his credentials. Captained his state too. Ariel Steinberg is a chance too.

35. Port Adelaide – Viv Mitchie (Oakleigh)
Is Mitchie a traditional a second round early third round pick? Quite possibly. A consistent midfielder that can a grab and has decent skills but not a superstar that will see him in the mid 30s.

36. Port Adelaide – Ben Newton (South Fremantle)
I am thinking Port will stick with midfielders, and Ben Newton could go in the 20s., Newton is an outstanding kick and with Jacobs as their first pick Ports kicking will improve dramatically. Could a Jonathon Giles return to his former club after a standout season in the SANFL?

37. Geelong – Thomas Gordon (Oakliegh)
After getting a ruck and half back, Geelong will want a tall down back as Scarlett isn’t getting younger and Lonergan not setting the house on fire. Barden, Otten or a Hartigan may be selected if Cats go down this road but Gordon seems to be the riser in calculations. Could play Scarlett’s role as he would play on the third tall and can dash out of defence. Played forward as well.

38. Hawthorn – Alex Browne (Oakleigh)
Tough half back flanker that could eventually be in battle with Kyle Cheney for Campbell Browns half back flanker. Hawks need some stability down back. Will get best available tall back if they do not get one at 19. Hartigan a roughie.

39. Gold Coast – Aaron Young (Eastern Ranges)
I am going Young with this selection just so they have a medium forward. Can also play back but he complements Lynch and Lamb up forward.

40. Sydney – Alex Fasolo (East Freo)
Plays forward of the ball and runs all day. Could start playing half forward and working his way through the mid as he develops. Could maybe go tall down back but Fasolo will be picked within the 30 -50 mark.

41. Bulldogs – Tom Liberatore (Calder) FS
Steal. Would be top 25 if his dad never played. Another inside mid the Dogs will gain.

42. Carlton – Max Otten (Oakleigh)
Carltons defence is an issue, and while Otten is as tall as Tape, he will play as a flanker. If you didn’t know his last name was Otten you would have guessed because he is a slightly taller version of Andy.

43. St Kilda – Sam Menegola (East Fremantle)
Could do worse than Menegola. Mid size forward with good pair of hands that could work well with Riewoldt and Kosi. Could Nicks cousin be worth a ponder? Young is another mid forward if slips.

44. Fremantle – Darcey Barden (Northern)
West may be a calling for Barden, whose lack of option up front hurting them. Barden could easily be full forward and with Pavlich Ballantyne and the addition of John Anthony, that looks a hell of lot more dangerous.

45. Collingwood – Josh Green ( Clarence)
46. Collingwood - Ryan Lester (Oakleigh)
Pies will go best available. Green is interesting. Since he is Tasmanian he will slide but could be a very good option at 45. Lester can play anywhere on the ground and as the Pies do not have any standout problems on the list, versatility will get Lester to the Westpac. Horlin Smith has a lot of hype about him and could go here.

47. Richmond – Cameron Guthrie (Calder)
Richmond will pounce on Guthrie. He could easily go much higher than this, but is a solid contributor without being a superstar. Could be a role player in a St Kilda side but will get more game time in the middle at Punt Road.

48. Essendon – George Horlin Smith (Sturt)
Big wraps on this cricketer. Could end up anywhere from late teens to a rookie. Another elite midfielder the Bombers desperately need.

49. Gold Coast – Michael Hibberd (Frankston)
Frankston midfielder whose is quick and skilful. Definite rookie chance. Who knows what Gold Coast will do from here. This could be their last pick given their next choice is 105. They could pass and wait til the pre season draft. With this pick a possibility of being their last Scott Clayton may want an older body in the forward line.

50. Melbourne – Callum Sinclair (Port Melbourne)
Sinclair may be selected with the GC 49 pick, but Melbourne will be stoked with him. 200cm full forward who has played ruck in the past. Good set shot for goal and is a stop gap for Lucas Cooks developmental years.

51. Richmond – Alex Johnson (Oakleigh)
Tall that can play either end. Will play back. Durable enough to play midfield. I was considering Hartigan but Johnson provides that ‘utility’ factor that the recruiters love.

52. Port Adelaide – Anton Hemp (Claremont)
Key forward that could go higher, so a good selection here for Port. Almost a best available selection but adds a decent grab and work rate to Ports forward line.

53. Melbourne – Angus Litherland (Claremont)
Similar to Warnock but has about 10 years age difference. Very much a stay at home defender who spoils for fun. After choosing 2 talls up the other end the Dees will want another at the other end. Litherland could go as high as 38 to Hawthorn.

54. Geelong – Daniel Farmer (Sandringham)
Another mid forward type that would be a good fit at Sleepy Hollow. Decent kick mark and will play midfield but will start in in the forward 50.

55. Hawthorn – Kirk Ugle (Swan Districts)
Interesting to see where he goes. Small forward that fits in nicely with the Hawks after Williams and Hooper moving on and Rioli moving in to the mid leaving their small forward stocks short. Heard that he was at the Pies training session so he could go at 60. Rankine could be another small forward if they do not think Ugle can cut it.

56. Fremantle – Matthew Rankine (West Adelaide)
The Fremantle is possibly their area and Rankine will help Ballantyne. Ugle may be picked if available but Rankine is taller and plays like McKinley and Aaron Edwards as he plays above his height.

57. Sydney – Josh Walker (Geelong Falcons)
Another tall forward for Sydney. Ben Brown may be the more attractive option, but Walker will play higher up the ground

58. Geelong– rookie promotion

59. St Kilda – Aaron Mullet (Eastern)
Quick fleet footed left footer who could be a solution with his pace. Good value at 59 who could be gone at 45 by the Pies.

60. Collingwood – Dan Nicholson (University Blues)
Ammo who caught the eyes of Derek Hine at the state screenings. Half back flanker that will at least be taken at 78, but Pies might want to take him early for safety. Wilson for a smokie here.

61. Adelaide - Ariel Steinberg (Bendigo)
Recieved a lot of publicity. Mid sized forward that could fit well with Tippett and Walker as that third forward. Punted in Canada two years ago.

62. West Coast – Jacob Brennan (East Freo) FS
It is nice knowing a guaranteed pick 62. Half back that will run out in the midfield. Helped by the area of Subiaco

63. Richmond – Jonathon Giles (Central District)
Giles fits perfectly into their ruck stocks. Improved since his time at Port and was the standout bigman in the SANFL for 2010. Possibly could be no. 1 by seasons end.

64. Essendon – Myles Sewell (Roosters)
Love this guy. How he was not picked up last year I have no clue. Added a Goss Medal and a 3rd flag this year after a 09 Liston Trophy. Has Essendon written all over him with his clearances and his inside work the best in the VFL. Jobe will love him at Windy Hill to assist him. Will at least rookie but deserves a crack on a senior list.

65. Brisbane – rookie promotion

66. Hawthorn – Josh Mellington (Murray)
Mid sized forward that ideally will be a midfielder in the years to come. A lot to like about Mellington. Reliable skill, pace and consistency.

67. Carlton – Ben Brown (Devonport)
Given that Darling is not overly tall, Ben Brown is and at 197 could be a full forward. The mosquito fleet will love having a guy like Brown down there to rove off.

68. Port Adelaide – rookie promotion

69. North Melbourne – Ben Casley (Jets)
Best player with Adam Kennedy at the Jets this year. Ready to play round one and adds to their on ball rotation.

70. Carlton – Blayne Wilson (Peel)
With this being last live pick a pass could be on, but if they don’t, Wilson could fit in nicely. Plays off half back with a prodigious kick. If he was a little taller he would be a Brian Lake. Carlton will love him here. Josh Smith from Morth Melbourne could be an option for a tall forward.

71. North Melbourne – Kyle Hartigan (Werribee)
Insurance purposes. Key defender who has been playing under the eyes of the North heirachy and had a good season. Still only 19. Surely will be rookied.

72. Fremantle – Jarrad Blight (Collingwood)
Will pass for John Anthony with their last pick, but I do not want to be boring. Blight is definitely a chance to go somewhere. Long kick that comes off the half back line and Fremantle could rookie him. He is a West Australian so being back at home in a familiar environment could be a good fit.

73. Sydney – Jackson Sketcher (Sandringham)
Morrish Medal winner with Heppell. Tough in and under who should get picked at least in the rookie. Fits the bloods mould. Ed Curnow an option if they are looking at an older option.

74. Bulldogs – Justin Monaco (East Freo)
With Ryan Hargraves being below par this year the kennels mid sized defence isn’t looking to flash. Monaco is a no worries backmen who could complement Brian Lake. Josh Smith another chance here too.

75. St Kilda – Jarrod Ninyette (Claremont)
Played in the WAFL grand final but everyone got overshadowed by Krakeour. Early 20s with pace but a little on. I think St Kilda will have a punt on him but Ross ‘The Environmentalist’ Lyon doesn’t mind recycling late on. If he goes down that way one Tim Ruffles could go.

76. Collingwood – Serhat Temel (Bendigo)
Missed out on last years draft after playing full forward in Cannons flag. Desperately unlucky not to get rookie and with a season of senior footy under his belt, this could be a Hine special. Losing Anthony and Rusling might want them to think outside the box. Will pounce on Kirk Ugle if still available.

77. Collingwood – Adam Marcon (Northern)
TAC Cup Future Stars player of the year. Check. Knights captain. Check. Best and Fairest. Check. Love from anyone. Nup. Adam Marcon is a tough inside midfielder who never says die. He would be in top 20 favourites. I seem to be the only one. Could pass. Matt Little an option if they want another goalkicker.

78. West Coast – rookie promotion

79. Richmond – Steve Clifton (North Ballarat Roosters)
Bachar Houli will come to Punt Rd on the back of this pass, but if the unthinkable happens and they keep the pick, Clifton could be here. The 4th Rooster to go onto an AFL list from this years flag and this years Liston trophy. Hasnt got as much plaudits as Sewell Smith and Richardson but as effective. If the Dons don’t get Sewell Clifton could go at 81.

80. Essendon - Jake Von Bertouch (Woodville West Torrens)
Surprisingly not a midfielder. Adds to the forward line as mid size option. Good pick at an 80. If they want a senior player a Matt Little or even a Garry Moss from Hawthorn.

81. Melbourne - rookie promotion

82. Adelaide - rookie promotion

83. Port Adelaide – rookie promotion

84. West Coast - rookie promotion

85. Carlton - rookie promotion

86. Hawthorn – Matt Spangher (West Coast)
Seem certain to pass and get Cam Bruce in PSD. Spangher is training with the Hawks at the moment and at 195cm and set on staying in Melbourne, this could work nicely. Most likely rookie.

87. Fremantle - rookie promotion

88. Western Bulldogs - Cameron O’Shea (Eastern)
Can play anywhere on the ground and a good height at 190. Could go anywhere in the draft.

89. Western Bulldogs – Matt Little (Williamstown)
Little could go to his clubs affiliate. The addition of Veszpremi would not help as they are playing for the same spot. Kicked 86 goals and should get on a rookie list. Played 1 game for Hawthorn. Josh Smith an option if they want back up for Hall and Grant.

90. St Kilda – Brayden Grenfell (Calder)
Possibly Wayde Skipper in PSD. Grenfell is 198cm. Can play at both ends and big enough to be in the ruck one day.

91. Collingwood - rookie promotion

92. Collingwood - rookie promotion

93. West Coast - rookie promotion

94. Richmond - rookie promotion

95. Essendon – Ed Curnow (Box Hill)
Ed Curnow would be higher up if his leg did not snap in half. Was on Adelaides List before joining Box Hill. Started the season like a freight train. Will end up somewhere.

96. Melbourne - rookie promotion

97. Adelaide - rookie promotion

98. North Melbourne - rookie promotion

99. Carlton - rookie promotion

100. Fremantle - rookie promotion

101. Sydney - rookie promotion

102. Western Bulldogs - rookie promotion

103. St Kilda - rookie promotion

104. Collingwood – NSW scholarship promotion

105. Gold Coast – Ryan Gamble (Geelong AFL)
Definite chance to pass up their last pick but if they don’t they will select an AFL player. Gamble helps their lack of older forward options. Gamble will almost certainly be rookied somewhere as his inability to break into a Geelong line up sees him here. Matt Little could be a steal as well.

106. Essendon - rookie promotion

107. Adelaide – rookie promotion

108. Carlton – rookie promotion

109. Fremantle – rookie promotion

110. Western Bulldogs – rookie promotion

111. St Kilda – rookie promotion

112. Fremantle - rookie promotion

How are Veszpremi and Little playing for the same spot? Little is a one dimensional tallish forward, while Veszpremi is a small forward, winger or half back. Also why do you think Josh Smith is a chance at our picks?

great draft for bombers, alot of players to pick at 31, would love andreoli but there are better options in tape and cripps who i think wont last to pick 31 and if they did would certainly go to bombers, this is a different draft to alot of others i like it:thumbsu:

Great thread. And if GC end up with the kids in your PD (particularly Lynch & Gorringe to balance out the mids) then I reckon we're ****ed. Developed right, they'll be winning premierships (dont want to put a timeline on it) one after the other. ****.

Good effort!

Aliago- Well done a fine job. I like the way you have placed the 2 East Freo boys who missed the 18s- Chalwell (30) and Menegola (43) i feel they are the bargains in the draft.

Would love Josh Green at Pick 45 but I highly Doubt it.

I would really doubt the pies would draft Temel

I agree...the strong word is that the lions are super keen, and most Phantom drafts have taken noticed. 3 picks in the 20'2 & early 30's suggest he won't be passed on by the lions if available...I think it would take players like Jed Lamb sliding for that to happen

Lycett noooo....Isaac Smith or a key defender it will be over putting a 6th ruckman on our list.

Ottens can barely get onto the park, therefore his time is nearly up. the others have shown nothing at AFL level, or next to nothing in Blake's case. The ruck is hardly a position of strength and if it becomes too strong you get decent value for rucks at the trade table.

If Pat Veszpremi plays on a wing then am I wrong but I thought he would have played forward
Josh Smith is a 195cm forward. Hall is 33 and I wouldnt think Grant would play that role. Smith isnt that bad. He might worth a punt on the rookie list.

Lycett is definately able to get around the ground more than Blake West and Simpson.

if conca did slide to 31 they should snaffle him. i would not have thought you needed another key back. your spine is definately a major plus for the dons

Veszpremi will probably play mostly as a forward, but as a small forward. Little is a full forward/third tall, they play completely different roles.

I don't agree regarding Smith. He may be good at VFL level, but he's had a number of years on an AFL list and has shown virtually nothing. Neagle has shown more yet I still don't rate him that highly. We also have young Jones who looks the goods, but Little wouldn't be the worst backup option.

Can't agree with all those mid-fielders for Essendon. We need another key forward - someone who can play full forward, and we may be looking for another tall to develope over the next few years in the ruck.
Personally I wouldn't go for a ruckman this time around, but as well as the mid-field, we need to find some goal kicking forwards !

Surprisingly not a midfielder. Adds to the forward line as mid size option. Good pick at an 80. If they want a senior player a Matt Little or even a Garry Moss from Hawthorn.
Only surprising for you, IMHO.

We've now cut 3 talls, a ruck, a mid and a small back off our list.

And you reckon we'll go 4 mids and a tall. The chances of us not getting a ruck are very, very slim.
