The difference is Brown's being groomed as a defender. Kersten's playing the same role in the VFL as Hawkins in the seniors.

Hmm, might see him make a debut this week then?
Im betting hawk won't play, way too risky after that ko.

Would be nice to see Kersten hit the ground running, could have a contender for pods should he not extract the digit a bit more.

Not so sure they've settled that yet. It certainly has been front and centre in the coaches mind. However, I believe Mitch was moved forward on Sunday and that's when he started to shine. Perhaps someone who was there can confirm that.

Just think he's done the hard yards this year and has shown he can perform in the forward half. Therefore deserves consideration over Kersten at the moment IMO. It looks like Hawk will line up so the conversation is probably academic.

Don't KNOW but it's BEEN happening FOR a few YEARS

You really cannot help yourself can you Jubby?

But I got a good laugh out of it.:D

Great contest (except for the second quarter). Great seeing Knights run down to the bench during the second quarter to talk to the players one on one when they went off the ground in face of an 8 goal to 1 second quarter. At half time he addressed the players for over a minute, telling them to grow up and singling out Hogan for breaking team rules. Overall a great game, much like the AFL (questionable umps in favour of Casey first 3 qtrs.. questionable umps in favour of us last quarter). Photos are now up at http://www.facebook.com/ArjOnlineImages

1. Brown ~ Struggled down back with the Scorpions quick ball movement undoing his usual composure (it is a wider ground to most), got moved up forward to a half forward flank after half time where he presented well and brought the ball to ground in pack situations.
6. McCarthy ~ Second half came into his own. Excitement machine who attacks the ball with ferocity and has some great attacking skills. Set for a big 2013.
15. Schroder ~ quiet game taking a knock to the calf early in the game which he failed to run off.
17. Byrnes ~ much better game. Always looked dangerous in the forward half and unlucky not to finish off with more goals.
25. Gillies ~ second half when the game was on the line he stood up. Got a number of telling rebounds off the half back and showed good hands.
33. Horlin-Smith ~ busy in the first half but went out of the game. Needs to work on his finishing skills.
34. Hogan ~ got singled out for criticism by Knights are a few "cute" possessions added to the Casey charge. Improved his efforts late.
37. Eardley ~ a good game off the half back, showing good ferocity at the ball and the opponent. Doing everything right at this stage.
39. Kersten ~ played the Kingsley role perfectly. Leads hard and has good marks, with a play on at all costs mentality. Would expect him to be a chance to debut this week. Great foot skills.
41. Stringer ~ busy game through the midfield, showing a good hunger for the ball. Good skills going inside 50.
43. Burbury ~ Best a field in my opinion. Has a class and composure to his game which should see him promoted at season's end. Still a work in progress (he was a rower), but is great contested and on the lead inside 50, and can play a crucial midfield role. Possible Johnno alternative going forward.
47. Bathie ~ has transformed himself into a crucial cog in the Cats back 50 this year. Good in the air, on the ground, on talls and smalls, his kicking has improved out of sight.
48. Blicavs ~ started slow, but when he went back and kicked a goal from a strong tackle, his game was transformed. Showed great hands and a great leap on the mark, he was leading and presenting well and showed good awareness around goals (as is evident in the video highlights)
50. Gleeson ~ busy game and showed good composure through the midfield when the Scorpions were getting on top.
51. Selwood ~ great game, showing fantastic leadership at crucial stages. Plays an identical role to Joel and has become a vital lynch pin.
52. Hollmer ~ an established star at VFL level now. Presents well as an undersized full forward, he competes well in the ruck and has tremendous speed by foot.
53. Barham ~ has turned his game around this year where last year he was wasteful by foot, this year he is become much more effective. Good around the half forward flanks.
54. McLean ~ came in and out of the game (I was working mainly inside the Cats F50 so could have missed things). Continues to impress with how he reads the play.
57. Corrigan ~ back to his best. Adds a senior head and a definite X-factor to the Cats forward 50. Great seeing Paul there in the crowd.
58. Condy ~ struggled to have a strong presence in the game. Played a good negating role, but wasn't as damaging on the attack.
59. Maas ~ would love to see him get a look at season's end. Plays the small back defender role superbly, and is great on the attack. The goal he kicked showed great footy smarts.
64. Banjanin ~ has transformed his game to a point I see him as a viable AFL option. Competed well in the air and on the ground, and is providing a good presence around the ground. Good chase and tackle, and is presenting around the ground.

Hope they play Blicavs again next week, 3 goals and alot of upside bids the possibility of an AFL future.

A 198cm winger whose strong point is running has a lot to like about it.

Eardley was the pick of the rookie draft, very glad we're giving him a chance and Lincoln McCarthy, these two little blokes could be great Geelong players in the future IMO.

We need another Ruck and slim pickings in the draft this year, depends what becomes of stringer with his altercation, I can see him getting the chop if it's true.

So would be it fair to say nearly all our Rookies this year have shown enough to keep them but surely we cant keep them all.
Banjanin must smell a chance for a spot!

Fair point but who gets the flick?
Eardley seems to shoe plenty for an 28 year old. Like his hardness at it - some have said a little Rooke like. Can't teach that. Size can be gained.
Cowan - Showed plenty when fit but cruelled by injury this year
Bathie - Long term project with size. Getting better each game played. Reading play better and skills improving - was a basketballer
Bews- FS project with 2years development to go..
Blicavs - Like Bathie Long term project that has shown skills early - was a runner
Burbury - Had BOG last week - better reading of play and skills vastly improved - was a rower
Stringer - Dickhead moment off it but very attractive player on it...
Simpkin- Hard trier that has had 2 games and senior level. Age might hurt him but we are lacking in that age area.
Sherringham - Mature age that has more than held own at senior level this year..
Schredder - Chappy Jnr that has improved skills and endurance. Seems like a player going forward.
Banjanin - Serviceable Ruck man from the Orren mould that could do far worse than being on AFL list next season.

Point is - there are just no real total SPUDS or DUDS that are automatic list cuts.

Hogan, Byrnes and a few retirements...

Noted im keeping Gillies off that list...

Its going to be really difficult making list space...

Go Catters

(player evaluations based on listening to games and RR reports... and subject to beatings by those who know more...lol!)

One or two of the rookies will get elevated which will make room for new rookies.

All the rookies impress me this year, probably wouldn't want to delist any.

VFL finals series is big for the rookies because it gives them a chance to play well and prove they deserve to stay with us next year.
