This.

Say what you want about Maxwell, but our players haven't been misbehaving off-field while he has been captain.

You are absolutely having a laugh. Go back and have a look at the years Maxwell "captained" it's a very loose term.

Btw the players who you say "don't" respect Judd, are the players who have been doing it for years. With all captains. Houlihan and Walker.

Roo is the worst by far, Cost them a flag in 2009.

Cost us a flag? Riewoldt was the main reason we made it into the GF in the first place you flog. Even in the GF he wasn't the reason we lost, it was our other forwards missing easy goal scoring opportunities that cost us.

Just about every other team would kill to have a player and captain of Riewoldt's quality, including your pathetic Carltank rabble.

A rabble that you only beat by a kick... awesome.

Yes he cost you the flag! Simple, in a wet day, you Simply don't fly into packs take out 1-2 of your own team mates and spill the ball to the ground so your opponant can rebound. You use numbers, to gather and control. Roo wanted to be the hero and take the big grabs, and failed, massive...

PS how good is your club when even your namesake, and best player ever is a traitor.

No, not really. Maxwell just completed his first year and there have been no major incidents to speak of. Surely his leadership contributed to that, especially given the events of the previous off season.

Exactly. Judd hasn't been able to stop the problems. In fact, they've worsened. He has to take some of the blame for the off field issues, just as he has gladly taken the media accolades for his positive effect on others, such as Murphy and Gibbs.

Riewoldt may not have taken many marks (conditions didn't favour him) but he still crashed packs which provided our other forwards with opportunities they didn't take. It was a typical selfless performance from a great leader. He'd be hailed as a hero if we had've won, especially given his brilliant match winning performances against Collingwood and the Dogs.

As for Tony Lockett, he was far from being a traitor. He left a legacy at the Saints as the best full forward of all time and then decided he needed to get out of the Melbourne spotlight. He made sure we got adequate compensation for him because he still loved St Kilda.

You may as well call Fevola a traitor for going to Brisbane, he burnt your club and gave them no alternative but to trade him. Now you're left with a forward line which is about as exciting as H&R Block.

For my 2 cents.... rounded down to 0

There seems to be a strong school of thought that Judd's impact on the Tankers' culture has been poor and that he has trouble keeping off-field stuff under control (also at WCE).. You only had to watch the brownlow street talk to see what Fev thinks of him...

However, personally - I think crap players that end up captain and the club continues to flounder are far deserving of being labelled as the "worst". Hence I went with McDonald - who surely has to be the player in this list with:
- the least ability
- poorest record in terms of games won

Also - and in my opinion - the leadership group around him is equally disasterous - Miller, Green, Bruce... etc - all players that will retire Shaun McManus-style... 200+ forgettable games of footy. This also reflects on him.

So for those voting Maxwell based on his ability as a player - I am wondering why you would suggest he is worse than McDonald... Just interested.

And having said all that - I am surprised that Newman isnt polling a lot higher after his efforts in 09 with the Wallace sacking

it's probably because Maxwell was named AA CHB and ........ oh...........sorry that doesn't make sense......... never mind....

In all seriousness, Nick 'crybaby' riewoldt takes the cake by a country mile. St Kilda does nothing for their mental image or strength by employing a captain who constantly cries and gets emotional regarding his footy. How can anyone take such a spud seriously (pardon the pun). This is poor leadership and imparts his same mental weakness to the rest of the squad as a result.

He can't score when he has a shot to win the game, he cries and gives up early in the season against Collingwood due to getting a little bit hurt and he plays in the grand final severely injured and gets schooled by an inexperienced and rising Geelong defender :). What a way to let down your team and club in the name of self interests!

This is a stark contrast to Premiership Winning captain Tom Harley, who comes back on to the field after being knocked out concussed by his opposition in their losing 2008 Grand Final.

Not to mention, this little pretty boy fails to get involved when his team is in an all in brawl because he is a better downhill skier than AFL Role Model.

I think the proof's in the pudding really

A Failed Captain for A Failed Club!

:thumbsu::D:)

I was having a hard time deciding but you mount a strong case and have swayed my vote.

He crashed packs containing St Kilda team mates waiting to take simple chest marks you mean, thus creating turnovers or at the worst created a stoppage where there should never have been one.

What did St Kilda get for Lockett when he left for Sydney? So far as I can see, Robert Neill from Sydney, Joshua Kitchen and Glen Nugent from Hawthorn and what draft pick/s?

St Kilda's picks that year in the national draft after finishing 3rd bottom with 7 wins were as follows:

Pick 5 - Joel Smith - traded after 58 games and busting his knee
Pick 7 - Tony Brown - delisted after 108 games
Pick 13 - Big Chris Hemley - delisted after 1 game
Pick 25 - Steven Sziller - retired after 156 games
Pick 26 - Tim Elliot - 47 games and gone
Pick 43 - Dean Matthews - gone after 1 game
Pick 48 - Austinn Jones - 226 games

Robert Neill - 23 games
Joshua Kitchen - 3 games
Glen Nugent - 11 games

One very good player who went missing for 4 years. A good servant in Steven Sziller. A bright starter who fizzled (Brown). A promising player who was an excellent player for Hawthorn and 3 not worth mentioning plus the 3 players traded in that aren't worth mentioning either.

Which one of the above picks was compensation for Locket?

This is commonly known as the 'Vandenberg Defence'.
you have no idea about Richie !
you do not understand what he did and never will no flog like you or others who have bagged him will ever and that includes any hawk that bagged him back then too ! [i know back then there was and i am sure they never got why he was captain]

Judd, simply due to his failure to provide any leadership to his teammates during their off-field dilemmas.

Why didn't he pull Fev up at the Brownlow?
What was he doing on the boat cruise?
Why did he let a rookie be force-fed alcohol?

Weak leader.

I voted for Adam Goodes, Brett Kirk and Craig Bolton. Not that individually they wouldn't be good captains; it's just that I don’t like this silly idea of having multiple captains.

Just make one guy the captain and then come up with other titles for others. Something like midfield leader, defensive leader etc.

It's not like all three participate in the coin toss.

The mercenary who allows his players to constantly run rampant and lets the teams best player get blind and consequently traded... all whilst sucking millions of dollars out of the club for absolutely no return.

Judd is a cardboard cut out, imitation captain, all he cares about is his next pay check and sneaking his name into Dick's will. You may not know who the **** captains Melbourne, but at least he bleeds for his club.

this.
Judd has no control over his players and no duty of care excerised at the brownlow. Prefers to watch steven seagal moofies for his next cunning defence at the tribunal: "eye gouging? no! let me refer you to (insert movie title) starring steven seagal.... that's what i was attempting to do".
has now stuffed two clubs and I hope for GWS they don't try to draft him as their marquee player so he can make it a trifecta of destruction.

Pretty sure we got the draft picks for Joel Smith and Tony Brown from the Lockett trade. We may have also got the draft pick for Aussie Jones in that deal as well but I'm not entirely sure.

Smith, Brown & Jones were all very good young players. Smith would have been a star for us if he didn't wreck his knee. Brown was a very good player early on but unfortunately never really kicked on. Aussie Jones was a great player for us of course, playing over 200 games.

Robbie Neill was also a pretty highly rated player when we got him in the Lockett trade but for whatever reason he never really found his feet at St Kilda.

Chris Judd.

Fantastic player, terrible captain.

An over all consenses says chris judd is a champion but terrible capt...many say what is maxwell doing as captain..and many say he,s a terrible player....IM SORRY BUT IM GUNNA CUT IN HERE.i agree with the judd statements...and it pains me to say this..BUT...maxwell is a terrific captain ...reasons...if theres anyone who will put his head over the ball to get crunched for his team mates its this guy...he had improved outta sight...his defensive skill are enormous and his spoiling is terrific...he will take a bullett for his team mates...thats a captain...he has gained the respect from all he plays with due to his committment and courage...he might not be the most highly skilled player but id go in the trenches with him...and thats what the team mates need....as i said it pains me to say this cause i hateeeeeee collingwood but im also a realist..

It appears that this is how the draft picks worked.

{Just looked it up. We only got one draft pick for plugger which was pick 5 and we took Joel Smith. We actually only got Robert Neil as a player but also the Hawks were involved and we got Glen Nugent and Joshua Kithcen from them in return for pick 13 and we took Chris Hemley. We had to give them pick 59.}

{smith and chris hemley were our two draft picks for plugger...aussie and sziller were picked with our original picks.....we basically got sfa for plugger...
smith walked after three seasons......

i am sick of posting that aussie was not part of the compensation for plugger.........}
