THE AFL has decreed St Kilda must wear its clash strip in the Grand Final against Collingwood.

The Saints have no choice but to wear their largely white clash jumper so as to avoid what the league considers to be a confusing similarity between their classic red, black and white jumper and that of Collingwood's black and white stripes, The Australian reports.

But if St Kilda captain Nick Riewoldt gets to host the premiership cup aloft he will do so in the jumper bearing the traditional display of colours that have run through the history of the club for almost 140 years.

no one should wear a clash jumper for a grand final. this is just ridiculas. typical of the afl

So they should.

Minor premiers on their home ground should always get priority.

So if the GF was at etihad we would get our home strip?

Home ground has absolutely nothing to do with it, its the AFL taking the easy way out because trying to compromise with Collingwood is impossible.

Shouldnt happen

The game was played for a hundred years without clash jumpers. I dont protest clash jumpers, I think they are important and should exist but AFL is a game that still likes to hold onto tradition, I think this one should be upheld

The idea of Riewoldt actually changing out of his match jumper and into a traditional saints jumper to hold the cup is laughable and reflects perfectly how stupid an idea this is

For the grand final, each team should have the right to wear their traditional strip, with the lower placed side in the H&A season wearing the alternate shorts if need be

The jumpers are not confusing anyway!
Such a strange decision, would be frustrating for any club I'd imagine.

all well and good saying "so they should, we were minor premiers", fair call, BUT if it was the other way round colingwood would wear their clash jumper? i think not

if you finished first you should get your home strip. You didn't. Too bad, too sad

Why should we compromise? We finished higher on the ladder, it's effectively "our" home game.

Yeah sure, our clash strip rules

Collingwood used to have a White strip - the problem is they changed it to black - they havent worn the same jumper for 100 years!

Collingwood should be wearing they 'clash' white backed strip, with white shorts - is traditional, and will allow both clubs to wear jumpers with history

Pay the fine, **** Collingwood.

What's 30k to a football club? Players should all chip in to pay for it. No one wants to see them wearing the clash.

This I would love to see.

Do it, Saints. Take your eyes off the prize and concern yourselves with petty issues like style. You want to make sure you look as pretty as possible while collecting your runners up medallions.

I'm still confused over the clash issue - surely the majority of the football world would want both teams in their home guernsey for the Grand Final?

Who in the AFL has decided "LETS GO AGAINST POPULAR OPINION AND MAKE ONE OF THEM WEAR A CLASH" ?

The whole issue confuses me.

Its not Collingwoods fault this time. I agree though, there is no clash anyway. St Kilda's traditional jumper with white shorts would be good enough.

Good decision.

If the Saints win, and they're really that worried about it, they can change into their traditional strip when the cup gets presented. Just like Spain did.

Like it would matter to the players, they'd see the home jumpers in the locker, put them on and go out.

It's a grand final - there are no home teams. A coin toss should decide.

Learn the rules.

The side that finishes higher on the home and away ladder gets the priority re jumpbers if there is a clash. Just like that for all games leading up to the GF the side that finishes higher gets to play at its home ground (capacity permitting for Melb based clubs).

It has nothing to do with the Pies, the AFL make and enforce the rules.
