This I would love to see.

Do it, Saints. Take your eyes off the prize and concern yourselves with petty issues like style. You want to make sure you look as pretty as possible while collecting your runners up medallions.

Yeah, and we could book a room to celebrate our brownlow win...oh wait..;)

Would you be happy seeing Essendon wearing an away or clash strip in a GF? Most Essendon supporters kick up a stink if you have to wear a clash strip for a normal H&A game, let alone a GF.

As for the players, they may not have all barracked for the club they play for but I'm sure most of them form an emotional attachment to the club once they start playing for them and to the traditional jumper. If given the choice most players would prefer to wear that traditional jumper on the biggest stage in a GF rather than a clash jumper.

i couldnt give a stuff what the players had to wear on GF day. they could run around in leather g-strings with chains hanging off the jock connected to nipple rings. A win is a another premiership for the EFC.

If I had my way, the home match-day strip of black with the red sash guernsey, black shorts, and red & black hooped socks will always be the home strip of the EFC and it would be used in every match where there isnt a clash. if the EFC are the away-designated match-day team, and this strip is too similar to the other team, then alternatives would be used - either white shorts (as is the case now), or a completely different alternate strip for extreme cases.........and there are several for the EFC.

but IMO, the bastardised version of the black with red sash alternate guernsey (with the widened sash) is an absolute disgrace. Widening the sash or inverting the colours and other such bastardisations of the home guernsey are an embarrassment. An alternate should be completely different and maintain the sacredness of the main uniform.

Sounds like you have both been brainwashed by the AFL into thinking there is a clash between the two jumpers. I have never heard of there being a clash between the Collingwood and St Kilda jumpers up until recently and never had a problem telling them apart. They are very different in design from front on and with different coloured shorts and socks you would have to have serious eyesight problems to get the two teams confused.

similarities. have been prominent since COL inverted their home guernsey a decade ago.

I heard its all part of Hird's master plan, but I thought he hadn't yet revealed the information? Tell me where you heard this from!!!

Easier said than done finding a clash strip that most supporters would be happy with, especially wearing in a GF. You might be the exception but I doubt many Essendon supporters would be happy with them playing in anything other than their traditional black jumper with the red sash.

Right so because Collingwood decide to change their jumper and create a clash we will have to wear our clash strip in a GF. Well as long as Collingwood are kept happy I guess that's all that matters.

look at the sponsor logos on the back.

collingwood has a RED logo, and Stkilda a WHITE logo.

this breaks up the backs if you ask me

Yep and if we wore white shorts to Collingwood's black shorts you could easily tell the difference between the teams. Complete overreaction from the AFL, there have been far worse clashes in grand finals, ie. Collingwood and North, Essendon and Melbourne, yet suddenly they decide now to force a team to wear a clash strip in a GF and detract from the experience of St Kilda supporters and players having their traditional jumper in a Grand Final.

Absolute disgrace.

Blame Eddie McGuire.

This is rubbish. It's only because the moronic fools that run the AFL won't stand up to the big clubs. The AFL have treated us like a piece of crap this year and I hope we stick it up em' on Saturday.

I don't see how us wearing our traditional jumper affects tv rights or advertising revenue. Do they think people will suddenly turn off and not watch it because there is a slight clash with the jumpers?

It is just a typical kneejerk reaction from the AFL because they have been criticised before for making mistakes with clashes between teams and umpires and are terrified of it happening again.

The problem is that they can't work out when there is a genuine clash and when there isn't. I mean they were the same idiots that sent the umpires out in pink shirts and black shorts that clashed with the Melbourne pink and blue jumpers. That was a way worse clash than what would happen between the normal Collingwood and St Kilda jumpers.

Demetriou and Anderson have shown repeatedly that they are incompetent clowns that constantly meddle with the game and it's traditions to satisfy their own overblown egos and sense of self importance.

Absolutely, with all the crap we have put up with this year, winning it will be all the sweeter just to stick it up everyone.

Having one team in a lighter jumper will make it easier to watch, do we need to make it easier? I don't know.

St.Kilda are wearing Red, White and Black, the jumpers front is similar to the traditional one. So at the end of the day who cares.

They swap there jumpers after the siren so they will celebrate in the proper jumper, and those with poor eyesight or are colour blind get to enjoy the game like anyone else.

I didn't think there was any big clash in the first place.

I am sure its not the players or clubs that care, its the TV who are dictating this to which the AFL is a slave.

Its not Collingwoods fault that St Kilda didn't have the balls to stand up for itself originally and keep their jumper - speak to your club administrators if you are upset.

No long existing club should have to wear clash jumpers. New clubs that enter and clash is a different story.

what about existing clubs that changed their guernsey 9 years ago

Spain had to wear their away shirt in this years World Cup and they didn't complain. Also they put their red shirt on after they won.
At least the Saints are in a Grand Final. Some teams would give anything to get into a Grand Final and wear their away strip. Think about how lucky you are Saints fans!
The only reason St Kilda are wearing their white strip is because they finished lower than the pies and both jumpers have black with white numbers.

The jumpers are not confusing anyway!
Such a strange decision, would be frustrating for any club I'd imagine.

I know, the jumpers look nothing alike!

Not like that night when Melbourne and the umpires both looked identical in pink and navy blue! Who was responsible for that decision?

So here is the final kit both teams will wear.

Personally as a Saints fan, I'm not thrilled that we are wearing our clash guernsey. One that we have only worn a few times the past 24 months. I'm of the belief that there is not a major clash as it is with the home guernseys and St Kilda white shorts. Being a Grand Final, it would be fantastic to see the two guernseys that have been opponents of each other for over 100 years.

However it is the modern age, and Collingwood rightfully deserve to choose the kit they want to wear, as the highest placed side they hardly get any other advantage. So it's St Kilda's responsibility to find a suitable attire that won't create a clash.

Anyway Saints fans, it could be worse. I love our clash guernsey compared to the shocking ones we have had in the past (yellow/ripped logo). Still has the heritage and tradition of our famous guernsey and Im sure its not going to change the feeling we get if we are good enough to pull off the win.

Go Saints.

I thought it was a coin toss to decide who wore away (ie white shorts) in the GF, all this 'Collingwood finished on top' stuff is meaningless...

I am not sure why Eddie is staying steadfast on this. The Collingwood 'clash' jumper is still an old jumper, in fact it is more like the one they wore for 100 years... Where as the St Kilda clash jumper looks nothing like the one they have traditionally worn before.

If I was a Saints fan I would be livid. I think their home strip is one of if not the best one going around. IF they have had the toss then so be it, but I have a feeling that Collingwood called the shots on this one...

Doesnt really bother me but Im still disappointed in the AFL.

No long existing club should have to wear clash jumpers. New clubs that enter and clash is a different story.

Didn't Collingwood change their strip from mostly white to black a few years ago? Makes this post pointless.

Besides, IMO the 'new' Pies jumper with the little 'wings' and the gay curvy line on the back looks shit anyway.

Their old black stripes (all the way down) on white with a white back looks much much better.

So yeah, both teams are wearing their shit version. Well done AFL. Well done Eddie. Well done subservient Saints.

so why wont you then? you wore that jumper for 100 years, and this one for only 10. Weve worn our home jumper for around 90 years in the AFL, and have only ever worn the other one about 10-15 times.

Disgraceful by the AFL.

Mate your colours aren't even the same as they were pre WWII!

So yeah, both teams are wearing their shit version.

summary of thread basically. i know it all comes down to personal opinion but there seems to be a unanimous feeling that the classic Collingwood jumper is one of the best looking strips ever, so good on the bastards for ruining that and making the Saints wear this white thing.
