Look I think you have a valid point in relation to talls , you see it as a weak area in our list , so you would have liked another one. But perhaps Scott wants a season to have a close look at our list , see whats, what , see if the talls on our list are up to it or not. Adding mids is pretty much a high percentage play whereas if we add another tall when he isn't required we risk not be able to give them game time

I remember after the 2007 draft when we took all talls aside from Donohue (FS) that there was a fair bit of expectation. Three years on Taylor has become an AA but S.Simpson and D.McKenna have been delisted within short time. You can't just draft tall for the sake of it. If you don't rate them then don't take them. Quality talls are MUCH harder to draft than small to mid-sized players. With our second compo pick still stored away there is time to perhaps use this on a young quality tall in future drafts.

Wasn't expecing this...have heard about him but not as extensive as the other draftees we were linked too...lets hope he has a good carrear with us.

Thanks for that Turbo!....... I just cracked it when I didn't see one bigger type amongst them, especially as a few slid in the draft.

Sometimes I wonder it there's a fear of drafting talls at Geelong, because everyone seems to have negative memories of past duds.
The law of probability would suggest we're due for someone, but if we don't draft over 186cm, we'll never know......

I reckon Scott's the right man in this mini-crisis we're having, so yeah, you're right! he'll suss the list pretty quick and make changes to suit.

I'm not knocking the kids we chose, they all seem talented, just that there all of similar type.
Having said that, Jordan does everything v well, I'll be watching him in the VFL, so all the best Jordan. A new Desiel in the midfield?

I'm going to go on recored and say this kid will be the most valuable pick for the future that we took this year. I haven't seen this kid live but from watching some footage he looks to be a hard nose, no nonsense mid/forward! A team filled with class and silky skills alone wont cut it, you need guys like this kid to give that hard edge

What we have done over the last 4 years plus Collingwood this year has shown that you need a deep group, 8 to 10 above average players, to rotate through the midfield to be a consistent force.

I'll give you Selwood, Bartel and Kelly for the medium term. Beyond those 3 the rest are unproven. The kids that we have picked up this year and last will hopefully step up and weather the loss of Ablett and the approaching loss of Ling, Corey, Chapman, Enright (the last two as midfield options anyway, they should have a few more left in them as flankers).

You can't expect all those listed to make it either. Hogan for one may well be under serious pressure for his spot on the list next year.

Given he is pick 54 - you do not expect that much - a hit or miss type pick really. How many picks like this have made it? Not many I suspect.

I just really like the reviews I have read about this guy and his toughness and toughness pedigree. I suspect he may make it because truly tough players are hard to come by who have enough skill to justify their selection in the seniors.

This is somewhat like the Rooke story, he started as a rookie (figures given his name), did not have elite skills but willed his body into contest after contest and became a very good player for us.

Jordan may not be a new Rooke but it seems he is at least a tough player and I like these type of players a lot. Good luck Jordan and may he bring some Buddha and Rooke moments for us in the future to remind us of one of favourite players - Max.

I've only seen his 2010 TAC Cup GF (worth watching for Cats supporters as Cam Guthrie played too - if you want a link PM me), but was very impressed by his ability to get first hands on the ball at stoppages, clean hands and handball creativity to open up the play from congestion.

He finished with 25 disposals (4 kicks, 21 handballs), 1 mark (a nice speccy), 4 tackles and kicked 2 goals 1 behind.

Looks a good prospect at pick 54.

0 pre season 3 rookie.

There'll be a few talls but our rookie picks are late so we'll have to see what's left.

i was very fortunate to play all my junior footy with this kid, along with Luke Mitchell (Carlton) Mitch Wallis and Tom Libretore(Western Bulldogs).
All 4 played in the same u16 premeirship team, and as the hype has followed the other 3, shroeder has quietly achieved under the radar, he has the class of wallis, the detemination of libba, and the marking capabilities of mitchell, this is a player not to be taken lightly, resembles a chapmen/bartel player, and will force his way into the senior squad this year. deadly on both feet, with a very big leap will damage any opponent. On several occasion he has kicked 10 goals playing from the midfeild, and this year kicked a set shot barrel from 70m out, which sailed straight through the middle of the big sticks.
watch out for this kid, he will be something special.

I reckon if you end up getting 2 out of the 4 ND picks in a given draft playing regular senior footy at some stage - you have done a very good recruiting job.

It seems that Smedts seems the most likely this year to make it (touted a top 10 pick by some) - now who will be the other to make it ?

If 3 of them made - then what a great draft for the Cats.

I still have hopes for Duncan and Menzel from last years draft - and I think THunt and maybe one of Gillies and Mitch Brown from a few seasons back will give us 2 from that ND.

Then we have quite a few looking ok from the ND 2 years ago - but not sure really who the most likely two will be.

If you get a Rookie to come good say every third year that is a pretty good hit rate. Unfortunately we already had one - Mumford.

Given we have had a few unfortunate things go against us - Ablett leaving, Mumford being pinched and Egan getting such a serious career ending injury - it would be great if we got a few more 100 + senior game players from the last 3 drafts to make up for these unexpected loses.

Maybe some like Weston making the grade would cheer us up at the Cattery - or this guy Jordon Schroder. Nothing like getting a good player from way back into the draft like Egan was.
