hey look, it's this thread again!

Yep.

Let's go to the checklist.

-- [strike]Posters split in agreeing or disagreeing with the general premise of the OP[/strike]
-- [strike]Poster referring to the good old days of black and white and it wasn't a problem when I went to the footy with an onion tied to my belt.[/strike]
-- [strike]Thread degenerates into argument about how "Collingwood doesn't clash with Geelong as long as they wear black shorts"[/strike]
-- [strike]Collingwood poster to retort that they have clash strip but Essendon doesn't.[/strike]
-- Essendon supporter refers other posters to their CONSTITUTION
-- Harmesy37 shows up with his ludicrous, rambling incoherent tirade against clash strips.
-- [strike]Complaints about how every club uses white in their clash strip[/strike]
-- [strike]Counter-complaint that North's argentina strip and Carlton's baby blue strips are butt-ugly[/strike]
-- Poster complains that Hawthorn's clash strip is terrible because it has a light front and dark back, thus accentuating the clash.
-- Thread peters out with no conclusion and another version is made again in 2 months.

Almost there. :thumbsu:

Seriously, footy fans need to get over the 'we can't wear that colour, those aren't our colours'

get over it! still the same team. it's horrible watching some matches because the strips look far too similar.

in a sport like this, it's something we really need and i don't see why everyone has such a problem with it

So you're saying more than a century of footy was horrible to watch?

The only thing horrible about this whole business is the atrocious uniforms your lot and the rest have come up with. That is what is horrible to watch and that is what drives me to distraction.

Hawthorn's clash strip is terrible because it has a light front and dark back, thus accentuating the clash.

I'm a slave to checklists.

For the Dees we could easily have a predominantly red top, a predominantly blue top and a predominantly white top.

West Coast would be one blue, one yellow and one white, etc. Too easy.

Which jumpers precisely clash with yellow that don't clash with white? West Coast having a white jumper is just totally, totally unnecessary.

Also, don't forget:

:D

Precisely. Collingwood now has a stock of jumpers that Do Not Clash with their opposition.

Yep.

Collingwood wear a distinctly white strip, and a distinctly black strip. Both happen to have black and white stripes.

Why people refuse to see this ... Even for games against the whingers from Arden Street, I have absoloutely no idea.

Collingwood have two distinctly different strips. That they are in the same design means absoloutely nothing.

A few clubs could reverse their strips (Essendon, Richmond) but some would need new clash strips. To me the Collingwood ones look exactly the same and don't really fix the clash issue.

At the end of the day, while I understand people not wanting to change you do need to move forward sometimes.

It's not really moving forwards.

More moving sideways.

Last night both teams wore a predominantly dark blue jumper and almost identical socks, thats just stupid. Collingwood have a mostly black home jumper and a mostly white away one so we're sorted thanyou. They're clearly different, one is black and one white and that shouldn't be to hard to see.

Essendon should not be forced to wear a new clash strip. Our fat sash and/or red shorts is more then enough for any clashes and as a club we will continue to protect our tradition and heritage.

With respect, you don't have the tradition and heritage of teams like Manchester United, the LA Lakers, Real Madrid, New York Yankees .. I could go on ....

Guess what?

The "tradition" argument in AFL is an issue run by 4 or 5 small town teams with their roots in a provincial, amateur, small city competition ...

They need to grow up...

I'm not a fan of home teams wearing white shorts. I'm a bit of a traditionalist and think it should always be away team or not at all. Obviously in some situations it's a bit of a catch 22

It does not matter how we compare to other teams who have been around longer. Our sash, as far as I know,, in fact has the world record for the longest time without the jumper changing. Just because other clubs choose to bastardise their jumper is no reason to force us to do it.

As another poster said in a thread I started about our clash jumper, our history and tradition may not be more important then other clubs history and tradition, but clearly we are the club most willing to protect it.

Right now we have a clash jumper. Our red shorts + normal jumper is perfectly fine for all our clashes barring possibly the Saints and Melbourne where we can use our fat sash.

I do not see why the AFL should force us to do something when we already do enough to remove clashes without going against our heritage and tradition.

1960 Minneapolis Lakers (est. 1947) move to LA
1920 Madrid FC (est 1902) changes name to Real Madrid
1913 New York Highlanders (est 1901 as Baltimore Orioles) change name to NY Yankees
1908 Chelsea FC founded
1902 Newton Heath LYRFC (est 1878 wearing green and yellow) changes name to Manchester United

...

1892 Collingwood FC founded
1871 Essendon FC founded

We're quite grown up, thanks.

With respect.... the Essendon Football club was established in 1871..... they're the oldest team of all of those you have named there....i mean for god sakes.. the Lakers were originally from Minneapolis..... great tradition!!!

Ahh, but none of the AFL teams existed before West Coast joined, you see.
