Might be a pipe dream, but what about this scenario:

- Warnock and pick 11 to GWS
- One of GWS' first 3 picks to Carlton?

Thing is, I don't know how even this draft is. If there are 5 or so absolute stand out kids I think getting a pick in the top few selections could be beneficial to us. If It's an even draft pick 11 might be just as useful as, say, pick 3.
Intead of a pick...how about a player??? They've got plenty of victorian guns.

Such as a pick in nineties or rookie draft?

Better the devil you know if you planned to be playing finals.

That's the gist of it if you're talking about the last six players on your list. The talent pool had already been diluted by the mini-draft and the new franchises trading players like Mohr, Saad, Milera, etc. to clubs in pre-draft deals. The draft pool isn't a magic pudding that will keep feeding the clubs who are hungry for fresh talent. No need to be upset about getting the crumbs. We be picking similar quality players to the ones we would have delisted.

Well yes it might be a late pick, it might be another rookie pick where we have a fair strike rate. It might be some freedom to have a serious look at the free agent market or consider trades. Surjan or Young would add to the list.

Why is it better the devil you know??? If we see too much of our bottom six again this year finals will be the last of our concerns.

The 'gist' is that the club wishes some of our fringe types weren't inked to multi year deals so they could target some upgrades. There is a difference between being upset at our non participation, and being frustrated that the clubs hands are seemingly tied in what shapes as a key year.

Well, we picked up Bell as a rookie and had have we kept Twomey last year, we may not even know of Bell now.

You just have to sell your silver at times in order to strike gold.

I don't know.

Anyway, we can only say it once and move on.
No point repeating the same over and over but fair to say that there may not be too many clubs willing to offer Davies 3 (nor 2 or 1) years right now.
Question would be if he were delisted, would he even be picked up by anyone else?

We should not be limited to expressing our feelings and thoughts only once.
I would hope that if a great number of supporters continue to express their dissatisfaction over poor administrative decisions that the club might take notice and make the list-management personnel become more accountable. They should be held responsible for stuff ups as they most likely would be had they worked for any other organisation.

Whats more dissapointing is at a time when we are excited about possible inclusions of trades and/or draft picks we have to read that our Best and Fairest winner has pleaded giulty to assault, at 32 Scotland should be so much better than that.
This should be a time of year for positive press for all clubs yet we have to have negative press.

At least it was a man this time...baby steps.

On Gumbleton: I would hope that after this year, the conditions for passing our medical/fitness tests would be a lot stricter...

So McKay tells us we'll have 3 picks in the ND and only one rookie spot available.
Sounds wrong to me on the rookie front, so can anyone do the numbers on that?

We won't care if we get four gems out of that, but we'd certainly want a bit more action, wouldn't we?

There will be further delistings. There almost has to be.

As a revered member of this board Crane, who in your opinion is responsible for this poor list management ?
Why is it suddenly bad list management?

How were we to know there was going to be such a squeeze for rookie promotions? Could anyone have guessed Bell would come through and be able to play 7 matches this year, forcing other clubs to become interested in him and force us to offer him a spot on the list? Football teams are very difficult things to manage, and at the time i remember everyone congratulating us and Ellard for getting a 2 year deal.

Hindsight is an amazing thing, and is easily used by people such as yourself to complain about the club. Wouldn't be having this conversation if Bell didn't come on, or had an injury and got delisted, or perhaps if Ellard or AJ had a fantastic year like everyone would have hoped. Nobody picked McLean to have such a scintillating second half of the year, and he was already pencilled in by most to be given the flick.

So many factors can affect club decisions.

If only we had a magical crystal ball like you expect us to have...

Thornton, Russell, Kerr, Bower out.
Bray, Lodge, Heyne, Carter (or so we've heard) out.

Three selections, leaving only Bower's spot which will be taken by Tuohy. Bray and Lodge's spots are defunct I think because they were NSW scholarships. Tuohy's as well because he was an international (again, I think). Casboult has also been upgraded, meaning we must delist someone else from the senior list. Bell staying on the rookie list. Perhaps Curnow is staying on it too and the club may be moving Rowe to the rookie list on compassionate grounds, effectively switching his and Casboult's positions on the list.

So:

Thornton replaced by ND pick
Russell replaced by ND pick
Kerr replaced by ND pick
Bower replaced by Tuohy

Bray replaced by nobody
Lodge replaced by nobody
Tuohy replaced by nobody
Heyne replaced by rookie pick
Casboult effectively swapped with Rowe (?)
Curnow stays on rookie list
Bell stays on rookie list
O'Keeffe stays on rookie list

Still leaves Carter, who may be staying after all?

EDIT: Don't know if I've done this right. Please don't yell at me :(

It appears certain that if we want to bring in anybody other than the compulsory 3 ND picks and the 3 planned upgrades (Cas, Tuohy and Curnow/Bell), we'll need to delist someone or trade them.

The most likely seems Bower, but I don't believe we can cut anybody else due to being contracted - can we?

Maybe Duigan (unlikely) - anyone else that could be delisted?

List management has not been good.

Looks like i'm vindicated then.

I got shot down yesterday and told i "had voices in my head" when i suggested exactly the same thing.

A few people on this site next to extract their heads from their arses me thinks.... or better still get a life away from the forums.

It's fair to assume that Bower is all but gone considering the info we have. (and probably even without it)

Bell is staying a rookie it seems along with O'Keeffe and Dale at this stage. Curnow should likely then be promoted but we don't know for sure.
Does that then suggest we'll only have 4 rookies allowed on that list, even with Carter gone?

I guess once we know how many rookie we're allowed, we should be able to put it all together.

Duigan and Collins are the only two other uncontracted players that could even be considered for delisting. May be a long shot though unless our hand is forced.

We may just have to move on another player or two for a better pick in order to give us 6 selections through drafts.

I'd rather see us move on someone like Ellard or Warnock who are imo additional to requirements via a trade in the hope of a. improving our ND position or b. adding a player that will both improve our best 22 and/or fill a certain void in our list i.e. durable, solid FF type who can kick 30+ goals.

Wouldn't mind losing a fringe midfielder and one of our 3 established rucks to get one of the above. I just hope we don't draft another young KPF as it won't really help us in the short term. With Mitchell, Rowe and Casboult we're covered in the young KPF dept. (esp. with Hendo capable of playing forward).

l think the list is exciting but player development is major concern hopefully that will change.
So player development is the issue. Wasn't that Harris & Webster's domain?

Hmmm, maybe not.

When did he say this?

I think there may be less rookie spots next year. There was an article about the cats saying you could only have 4 regular (now called Category A) rookies. If this is correct, Bell, O'Keefe and Dale would mean 1 spot left.
Then you could have Category B rookies (Lodge, Bray, Tuohy equivalents)

Trade Period Update

In an exclusive Trade Period update with CFC TV, Carlton’s General Manager of Football Andrew McKay has confirmed the Blues list is unlikely to change over the following weeks.
“We met with all the other teams yesterday, but reality is nearly all our players are now signed up so we don’t really have anything to trade for,” he said.
“It is general knowledge we did show some interest in looking for a tall forward, but overall we are happy with the depth and mix of talent we have across the board.”

McKay said while there was likely to be little change to the Carlton list it would feel different and be a new era with a new coach at the Club and although not officially starting his post until November, Carlton Coach Mick Malthouse has been in regular contact with Carlton officials.
