His left kick is okay, but he is incredibly one sided. That's a problem. They had 75 inside 50s, I can't blame him for making a few gaffs. He takes the game on though, is very fast and I think makes better decisions than our 5 other defenders most of the time.

Would rather give Strauss a run. Does well one on one and has a beautiful kick on him. Not a knock on Nicho but he is struggling at the minute.

MM all of his skills are atrocious, also this take the game on stuff is nothing but shit.

He runs, kicks and turns the ball straight over which in turn allows us to be murdered on the rebound, he is a horrible player who should not be playing at AFL level.

I honestly disagree with this. His skills are not great but they are not horrible. Maybe years of watching Melbourne has caused me to too easily accept mediocrity, but I think he's definitely worth persisting with. We are hardly flooded with rebounding defenders.

Keep Telrich and bring in Strauss for Gilles, who is worse than the worst of Al Nicholson, Chris Lamb and Ryan Ferguson combined, and along with Nicholson we might just get a bit of run out of defence.

Maybe Nicholson wouldn't have to bomb long to a contest (and likely turnover) if our other defenders helped him out?

I agree with the fact that he needs persisting with, but he doesn't exactly fill you with confidence when he has the ball in his hands.

Worth persisting with, but I've always hoped Strauss would take his spot by mid year.

Our players need to work with him and if he's hemmed in on his right, run past for a handball receive. Unfortunately Watts, Gilles and Frawley are too busy comparing beards (sorry to channel a bit of BT there)

Strauss is definitely a forgotten player, by me sometimes I must admit, but if he gets fit he could answer a few questions down back. I'd also be happy for Grimes to play as a rebounding defender, but not a stopping one because, let's be honest, Grimes gets goals kicked on him.

Grimes and Howe to defense with Frawley and McDonald plus two runners who can kick a bit, put the rest of the guys who can run and play in the guts and whoever is left over can play forward and hope the ball gets there. We need the talent where the action is.

Honestly don't think you can expect players to all move position/structure to compensate for a player who can't kick with one foot and can barely kick with the other. He is fast, and i like the way he runs around, but he doesn't look like a footballer to me.

Well not in total but there have been plenty of star one-footed players in the past. I don't think his left is THAT bad. Anyway we do have bigger issues though, Daniel Nicholson is hardly our biggest worry. If Strauss, Telrich and others rightfully take his spot then I'm not fussed, but I think he's in our best defensive 6 for now.

Just wondering, most players who have had bad form patches have had a significant position change at one time or another. Has Colin Sylvia ever been moved behind the ball? I genuinely think he's a reasonably smart player and with a good overhead mark, strong body and long kick, he could be quite useful at half back. The obvious issue though is that he needs to man up!

Fair enough, agree Nicho is the least of our problems. Interesting point with Sylvia, I can't remember him behind the ball. His natural talent makes you think he could play anywhere and at this point it might not be the worst idea. Still, id give him one game in the midfield considering how much we suck there and if he has another nothing game I'd forget about him.

Sylvia's main non-mental deficiency (he has plenty of mental deficiencies) is in the clearances. He has never been any good. He really is an agile key position player in the body of a medium forward.

Has anbody else noticed that even in the last 2 weeks we look better when Sylvia gets involved? Our best passages against Port he had a say in. Trouble is getting him 30 touches a game to have a decent impact.

Yeah, but I'd rather have an 18th man on the field at all times.

FB: Garland Pedersen Frawley
HB: Grimes McDonald Terlich
C: Evans Jones M. Jones
HF: Sylvia Clark Howe
FF: Blease Gawn Davey
Foll: Jamar Viney McKenzie
Int: Watts Trengove Tapscott
S: Byrnes

Out: Gillies, Nicholson, Toumpas, Sellar, Rodan
In: Pedersen, McKenzie, Evans, Gawn, Tapscott

Ok with West Coast playing Darling, Kennedy + back up ruck in their forward line its time to get Pedersen in as a big body to replace Gillies. Grimes can sure up the defense as well and we can use Watts in a roaming role back or forward. McKenzie if fit needs to come in, Grimes back and Nicholson out. Toumpas needs time in the 2's so we should try Evans instead. Gawn in to develop him acting in partnership with Jamar. Can sub one out late and get Pedersen to back up ruck. Lastly Tapscott deserves another go, Rodan or a bunch of others (see below) can make way.

Lucky: Sylvia, Watts, Trengove, Blease, Byrnes, Jamar

How bad a pickup does Rodan look? It's unbelievably sad.
Looked terrible at the time as did most of our trading and signings last year. No real surprise and for me that's my biggest knock on Neeld, that and his terrible team selections so far this year.

Funny how my meltdown last year now looks pretty justified.

Byrnes is also possibly one of the worst footballers I've seen in the last few years for us, as is Gillies.

Man i was melting down too on the last friday of trade week and everyone was trying to tell me Neeld was doing the right thing with signing Rodan and trading Gys for pedobear. I'm also feeling pretty justified now in how horrified i was.

Never thought I'd advocate the selection of Joel MacDonald or Neville Jetta, but I hope he comes in for a tall.

Jetta - Frawley - Garland
MacDonald - McDonald - Grimes
Viney - McKenzie - Blease
Kent - Watts - Howe
Pedersen - Clark - Davey
Jamar - Jones - Trengove
Evans - Tynan - Sylvia/Tapscott - Toumpas (S)

That's my preferred team.
