Did alright on the weekend. Started well early, got a knock and looked hampered for the rest of the game. Goalkicking was off, normally would have gobbled all 3 up

Was listening to the radio at the time so I didn't see the collision with Lynch, but it sounds like Jake took a heavy knock. In that case he did well to get back on the field and give us an advantage over GC in rotations etc.
In saying that the missed goals were frustrating especially the second on the run as he had options.

Was that the one where we had 3 players running into the 50 and Watson handballed to Melksham? I think Watson should've taken responsibility for that goal. Passed to Melksham who was under pressure. Too fancy for mine.

Yeah, that was the one. Maybe I'm being too hard on Melksham but I think he had another option over the top... Either way that passage should have resulted in a goal.

He did. Don't mind him taking the shot, but needs to kick it

Put his body on the line when he knew he was going to get crunched. That impressed me a lot. Was playing well up to that point, but after he came back on did not have as big an influence. Saying that he should have finished with 3 goals for the night, which would have had people saying he had a really good game.

His game would have went from a C+ to a B+/A if he nailed those shots. Played okay did Melk, the missed shots were frustrating especially as he missed them both when Gold Coast got within 10 points in the third

I think if he can continue on this form line for the rest of the year, pick up 15-20 possessions a game and kick a few goals then next year Could be his big rise. Is putting in huge amount of work and is getting the rewards. Throw in a consistent season and a pre season with the coaches going hard at him and he will be a really good player.

Wasn't a great game but it's hard to get a good read on him after he copped that knock. He was doing really well before then I thought. Hird seemed happy enough with him in the presser.
Unlike the Carlton game, I don't think I really saw a glaring error. He kinda coulda maybe run away from the defender to get the ball to Joe for the running shot (but I'd normally prefer the guy with the momentum to take the shot, so that's hindsight heroics), and he shoulda (and normally would IMHO) slot the set shot, but he was pretty clean, had a good crack, got into clear space 4 or 5 times, and generally made good decisions.
Just fell down a bit on skill execution.

Copped a heavy knock early.. hard to tell or judge a form line for a player after an injury early.

Also it is not his play against 'weaker' sides that has been most glaring.. more how he stands up under the real pressure of Geel/Hawks/Syd/Freo etc...

Maybe being dropped a couple of weeks ago was the wake up call he needed...

No doubt Melksham should've kicked the goal once he had it. I just don't think he ever should've had the ball in the first place.

Yeah havng watched the replay I think this is a fair assessment. certainly very few 'ffs melksham' moments.

I want to say that the knock threw his kicking off, because he had used the ball very well until then, but he seemed to be running with enough freedom and it seemed like the set shot was just a case of getting too close to the man on the mark and not being able to kick through the ball.

Thought he did a lot right, including winning a few telling possessions, making some big tackles and continuing to put his body on the line particularly after copping the heavy hit. Solid game, not like last week but he is not going to be anywhere near a dropping on performances like that.
