He was given the arse from Cronulla I think when the club doctor there told the board it was either him or Dank because the Doc was very unhappy with what Dank was up to. Those in the industry would have been well aware of the concerns which makes *Essendon all the more liable for hiring him in the first place.

And now they are trying to dance their way around this legally, arguing around the status of AOD and it's use in food and topical creams etc. The club needs to man up and accept that in dancing too close to the edge that they stepped over. They can deflect and avoid the little blows the media and public throw at them all they want, but the war hammer of WADA/ASADA is coming for them and is going to smash them into little pieces. Accept the wrong doing, acknowledge the culture that got them to this point in the first place and change it. No protecting those who were the brains behind the operation. They should be looking out for those most placed at risk, the players, and advising them to fess up in the hope that they cop the minimum.

I think it's worth noting at this point that our own Director of Medical Services and Sports Science, Steve Saunders, was recently asked at a club function whether this *Essendon nonsense was simply a case of grey areas within the rules. He responded unequivocally - there are no grey areas - you simply have to ask yourself whether you would inject your own child with any of these substances. Clearly Tim Watson would be willing to do that. Which is why I have come to the inclusion that the day after Jobe is stripped of his Brownlow, Timmy should also lose his father-of-the-year award from many years ago.

Seems reasonably likely that Jobe is simply the first member of the player group to hoist the club up on the petard.
He's not silly, he made those comments for a reason.
He wanted people to know the players trusted the club and are now awake to the fact they were misled by those in charge, including Hird.

If ASADA did stuff up and *Essendon have evidence of this, why not make this readily available from the get go? If that is the case it would seem to me that *Essendon are doing ASADA one massive favour and at the same time dragging their clubs name and their players through the mud. This just doesn't ring true to me. Also, one would think that if this was the case that WADA would be more than just spectators at this stage, offering their position in the media. They would be actively involved in negotiations with ASADA, the AFL and the club as to the possible outcomes.

Then there is the whole 'theraputic use' legal issues...

We don't have a say in case you haven't worked it out Foxx. Go make your feeble submissions to Awada/Asada/AFL and see if they are interested.

If we did have a say the *Essendon Football Club would be rubbed out for this year, banned from competing in the draft for the next 5 years, guilty players suspended and just for the crime of trying to lie and deceive its way out of this all premierships stripped going back the last 100 or so years ago.

(I just hope that's not letting them off lightly by the way.)

Hird and Thompson were well aware that the program they embarked on was sailing very close to the edge of what was legal, they approved of the appointment of Dank to the club (who had been moved on from Cronulla for dodgy practices), they were aware of which substances were being administered to the players, they were aware of concerns from Club doctor Bruce Reid about the program yet they are in no way responsible for the program going over that edge?

Sorry, to me that sounds like an utter cop out. Regardless of the outcome of the ASADA investigation Hird and Thompson have not only been derelict in their duties to protect the club and its players but have actively and willingly placed both entities in harms way by approving and participating in a contentious supplements program that strayed over the edge. How they can survive in their current roles beyond the investigation outcome is beyond me. In fact it speaks volumes about the club itself.

That negligence is enough for his head because he has given his trust to a guy with a dodgy reputation and this has now screwed his club and the players. I can't see how sacking administrators is the answer when those who implemented, oversaw and approved the program are still there.
