According to Jay Clark we were into him last year, maybe IF he has his off field crap finished we would be even more interested. Never been any doubt about his talent just his off field stuff
I don't think it's worth the risk. Someone who posts photos on Facebook of themselves wired to the eyeballs on speed, ecstasy & ice is not worth the risk.... :thumbsu:

We have enough problems with 'photos' already :p :D

He's grown. No doubt about it. He looks and plays taller than the listed 190cm. In regards to his foot skills, yeah he isn't a great user of it, but that shouldn't be an issue as I don't see him getting much of the ball at AFL level.

Problem is, to carry a bloke who is a rubbish kick you need to have blokes who are great users riding shotgun with him; we don't have many of those...

Realistically, the elite kicks in our side: Dal and Schneider; then there is a group of blokes who are arguably the next rung down - Milera, Siposs, Fisher and Monty most of the time, Murdoch's thereabouts, and Gwilt and Ross on a good day. That's not an encouraging statistic; four of those blokes are the wrong side of 26 - one is arguably retirement bound - and one was likely trade bait until he broke his ankle. Then there are Murdoch and Ross, who are babies, Gwilt who is hit and miss since the knee injury, and Siposs who apparently needs to pull his finger out and is currently not Best 22.

I'm not sure we can carry the strain; the days of Dawson and Blake being able to crab the ball 20mtrs sideways are long gone...

Rahul, you're a lad in the know; is Connor O'Sullivan any good? By my count he's eligible this year and at 196cm and 92kg already he's a lovely size for a young bloke. Seems to be a defender from what I can find.
He's an average prospect and I believe he plays CHF. I wouldn't like him at St Kilda.

Yeah we don't, YET. Roberton can use it and we could draft a couple of great ball users to add something to the back line. At the end of the day, we really cannot have a great key defender who can use the football with ease. We are going to have to compromise in some position and for me that is the position.

Word is that Swan Districts have really helped him out this year and he'a settled down. Getting him out of Perth would help too IMO. Problems with photos don't concern me as much as our problems with having match winners, and garlett is that.

Dayle garlett kicked another 5 on the weekend, I think if he's around at our 3rd rounder we take the punt

I would take the risk, but I don't think he'll be available. Too talented, another team will take the punt and go for him. Possible first round prospect.

Fev was a match winner too :P

I don't want Garlett unless we are 100% sure he's changed his ways. We tried to overlook off-field indiscretions with Lovett and it didn't work out. Let's not make the same mistake twice.
A person's character has a lot to do with how they perform, as it requires a lot determination and persistence to make it at the top level. If he's not willing to put in the work, then it doesn't matter how talented he is, there's just no way he'll be an AFL player.

Also, i'm sick of our club being a laughing stock in terms of scandals etc.

this is the same swan districts that were adamant gartlett was passed his problems last year. hell they didnt even admit he had a problem until he was booted from the AIS

make no mistake about it, swannies will say and do anything they can to get the kid drafted

do i think he is over his problems? no. do i think they are out of sight out of mind? yes. do i think its a powder keg waiting to go off? unfortunately yes

definite pass from me

let freo take him

gartlett has talent. the thing i worry about is when he has to enter an AFL system and work his ass off to get a senior game. once that pressure if applied, i can just see a whole host of issues arising

he coasts through games at the moment. collecting cheap goals. he is hardly running out the game and doing the hard things

reminds me of his best mate, newman. he only a couple weekends back just took off at 1/4 time and never came back

I still think that if Garlett was serious about an AFL career he'd be playing VFL right now, but obviously he likes the bad influences too much.

Are you kidding Newman & Garlett are bum chums..

I'm deleting my posts..

Ill post this in two sections....

http://www.afl.com.au/news/2013-07-22/senior-saints-face-axe

Riewoldt on potential retirements "I think that's on everyone's radar and everyone would be well aware of that. Some of them are going to be forced decisions and some of them are going to be voluntary decisions. People come and people go and it's a bit of a revolving door, but they're decisions the club administration and coaches will make at the end of the year in consultation with the players."

(on Hayes) "It's a really tough one. I certainly hope so, purely from a selfish point of view. I think he's still got a lot to offer in terms of his role within the team as just a player. But the character of the person, just to have him around the club is invaluable. I hope he goes again."

(on his role) "As a senior player, you need to be able to find different motivations. I'm taking a great level of satisfaction personally in being able to play a role with the young guys. Certainly there's a pride aspect in your own performance, and there's a responsibility as well."

"I was a young player once and I had great leadership from guys like Aaron Hamill and Robert Harvey and Fraser Gehrig and Stewy Loewe. The wheel turns and now it's my opportunity to play that sort of role. That's what motivates me."
Riewoldt also said he had undergone another course of Orthokine blood treatment from round six this season through to round 12. "The idea is that it just improves the atmosphere and environment within your knee and reduces a bit of swelling. That's my big problem, trying to get the swelling down."

You'd think Kosi and Blake will be decimate outs. Milne and Lenny one more year. The limited interchange might get Nick two more years or more?

We can trade perhaps Dal and our first pick to GWS for Boyd and a young back. Something like that. Does that leave us with a good middle tier? Probably only until Lenny goes but if we retain him as an assistant coach that could be almost as good (if he keeps training...).

I hope Clint Jones is also retained.

Jones isn't going anywhere. Was trying to think of the other guy who will get the tap on the shoulder and yeah Blake will be the one. If Milne doesn't finish the year strongly he'll be in serious strife IMO.

There's no way the club will keep Milne on the list next year when he will probably be going to trial on very serious charges. For the sake of one more season its just not worth the circus that will follow him. The board will have the final say on this issue and they will not want him as a current St Kilda player when he faces all of this.

Time for Milne to give it away IMO... and not play on for selfish reasons. he has had a good run and time to move on and blood his replacement. Same for Joe Blake - highly admired by this poster. Jones will be an interesting one... I don't think he will be a premiership player for us. Still reckon Lenny for super-sub in 2014 and beyond!

No, sorry but I struggle to see how this has anything to do with drafting gartlett with one of our later picks if he's available.

If Garlett is as good as people are pumping him up to be then he'll go earlier for sure. I'd be inclined to rookie him first and see how he goes.

Below is a list of players whom have not yet signed contracts beyond 2013:

Lenny Hayes (unrestricted free agent)
Stephen Milne (unrestricted free agent)
Jason Blake (unrestricted free agent)
Justin Koschitzke (unrestricted free agent)
Clint Jones
Adam Schneider
Beau Maister
Farren Ray
Terry Milera
Tom Simpkin
Cameron Shenton (R)
Tom Ledger
Tom Curren (R)
Jackson Ferguson(R)
Jay Lever
Jordan Staley (R)
Darren Minchington (R)

These are the players at highest risk of being cut from our list. The club has shown that it can be ruthless, though, and players with existing contracts are not necessarily safe
