Did you see 7.30 report tonight? Hird's texts from 2011? referring to teams he wanted to emulate the supplements program etc of, teams he was a bit suspicious of and wanted to catch up to them. No mention of the Cats-just Pies, Hawks and Eagles-haha. Who'd have thunk it?

Great report for Geelong, not so good for the comp.

If Hawthorn and Pies were found to be guilty (obviously Hird only has suspicions, but it may be enough to start investigations), ramifications for the competition are big given they both have premierships to lose.

Very VERY happy that Geelong werent mentioned. All the Essendon trolls are determined to try and implicate the Cats to make themselves feel better!

Exactly- I haven't ever really been worried about us, but good to hear Hird had no questions re us. (and let's face it, he should know by the looks). Our team had such talent, no need to go that far.
But you are right -scary if anything in it re Pies and Hawks (WC have always been sus)

The 7.30 report also focused upon Actovegin, which I suspect is what Rooke had in 2007, but this isn't a banned substance, so no problem.

Robinson spoke to Danks regularly whilst he was at Geelong, which has always been my biggest concern (Robinson on his own is not a concern), but so far nothing has come of that despite two major opportunities tonight if there wre an issue. Also note the meetings with Dank/Robinson and NOT Thompson took place at Hird's home, why there? Well obviously wanted to keep it secret and didn't want to involve Thompson, the only character in this sorry tale who Caro has said that she got wrong.

Past confident now and bloody certain we are fine.

I actually feel sorry for Mark Thompson. Wanted to stay out of the limelight and now he is at a club that has had probably the biggest ever spotlight shining on them. I imagine he will either leave or eventually become senior coach of Essendon out of sheer necessity, which would make the whole situation for him even more ironic.

The legality or otherwise will become clear after ASADA publishes its report.

The only report to surface so far is the one by Ziggy Switowski which was damming of the governance at that club and the handling of the supplement process. One extract reads:

In particular the rapid diversification into exotic supplements, sharp increase in frequency of injections, the shift to treatment offsite in alternative medicine clinics, emergence of unfamiliar suppliers, marginalization of traditional medical staff etc combine to create a disturbing picture of a pharmacologically experimental environment never adequately controlled or challenged or documented within the Club in the period under review.

On top of that we learn tonight of a clandestine meeting and of the side of a central figure not seen before.

You are right, the legality or otherwise of the supplement experiment is yet to play out. However the only report that has hit the deck so far is damming and the ABC program tonight didn’t show those involved in a positive light.

Just another reason to be grateful for the arrival of Mr.B.Cook at our club.

I feel completely sorry for bombers fans.

I've read a lot of the Bombers board over the past 6 months.
But the fact their kids can't wear an Essendon jumper to training etc. because they are called 'followers of drug cheats' tears at my heart strings.

Yeah, there was no prima facie stuff as such, but if you put into context of Thompson's outburst last night "why should Doc Reid and I cheat after 40 years?" yet no inclusion of Hird in that statement plus Hird holding meetings away from the club and away from prying eyes. It really provides a platform for a rogue coach to go off and perform rogue actions. It also explains why the club itself believes it has done nothing wrong, it simply wasn't aware.

That is total and utter crap, my kids play against teams wearing bomber jumpers - nothing ever gets said despite them being quite a dirty team. We had one of the Bombers out at our club a couple of weeks ago, the most controversial thing said was that he said that Ballantyne is footy's most whackable player. Whilst my son calls the Bombers drug cheats, he doesn't confuse the AFL team with local footy.

Kids are more sophisticated than that, mine wears a hawks jumper each weekend but still hates Hawthorn. This myth is the work of Ian Hanke.

Sidebar - me and many others wondered what the hell was happening when Knights arrived at the Cattery. Now we know and are very grateful, though it does shine a light on the celebrity cult in AFL. He did well but was not one of the chosen ones.
