what's about Taylor Hunts disposal? Isnt anyone as frustrated as I am? It has cost the side plenty of goals at crucial stages. Is it just me or is it the worst at the club in some time? The youth have a lot to live up to having just witnessed the clubs greatest era, but I don't think ive seen anyone butcher the ball quite as bad. Hes played over 50 games now so I cant see it improving.

Doesn't frustrate me, because I don't think it happens.
I don't remember seeing it, and his DE% 2011-13 is 70+, which is high for a bloke kicking into the F50.

I'm with Fred on this one.
I wouldn't necessarily want him kicking out from FB, but I don't think he is a butcher at all.
I have seen Duncan do a lot worse this year - which I hope is an aberration!

Just a thought on pick 15 - which may be pick 18 after compo is handed out - perhaps Wells doesn't rate the talent pool that highly outside the first dozen or so and is therefore more willing than he might otherwise be to deal the pick in a stronger draft.

Yes CE, I said something similar in the Heath Shaw thread, he may be targeting a player that is more in the high 20's which is why it is on the table for Heath Shaw. That worries me a bit - unless it is used on Adams - because it is unlikely to be the decorated juniors mid I am after at that pick!

I was thinking he might be considering Sully with a pick in 20s .

After he's already missed out completely in 2 drafts (or is it 3?) you won't need to use a 20s pick for Sully, anything over 50 or 60 would likely be enough.

Just on Mitch Brown with a clearing of the decks for younger players to get opportunities and I have said this of him before and I hope it can happen he MUST destroy the pre season. His career is on the line NOW. His chance has come he must put his hand up.

Scott Thompson example would suggest otherwise, not to mention our own Harry Taylor. I don't know if Sully is rated that highly but he looked the best key defender in the Grand Final and we are happy to reach to get what we need.

You may be right, but I would be very surprised if he went in the 20s, if at all, either to us or anyone else.

And it's still deja vu September 2012.

Yeh it was just a name I was floating out there, Wells tends to surprise with his selection so probably unlikely.

I think he'll get taken, no idea where. I didn't see enough VFL.

Me either, but there wasn't anything in the write-ups to suggest he was standing out. Mind you, it was hard to fit anything in the articles after the Brown stuff took up 3 or 4 paras. ;)

With the exodos out of Brisbane, I'd be talking to them. With Longer leaving, perhaps we can shop West to them as support/back-up for Leuenberger?

Might be worth investigating as West looks like he has been squeezed out and is at back of the queue and Brisbane are likely to have a few draft picks to play with or some other players looking to leave.

Lions likely to have a stock pile of picks in the 18-30 range also with most of their kids leaving likely to be traded for picks in this range. They already have 7 and 25, you would think 18 from hawks for Longer, they will push for 13 from Port for Polec, Pick 28 from blues for Doherty and Pick 24 from WC for Yeo. This all approx picks if they don't get players, but that leaves them 7, 18, 24, 25 & 28. If we package West and Varcoe, is 18 & 25 unrealistic?

Not too sure what they would and wouldn't do with the guys we are probably prepared to offer up.

But I do think we should be making noises at them considering the picks they are likely to have based on the players they are watching leave.

I'll bite- I have no doubt Blake would have beaten him easily in ruck contests.
West is so out of favour that Geelong played Blic in finals, despite a broken bone in his wrist.
Right or wrong decision- that's debatable- I say right. Point is, West is much overrated by some of our fans, and certainly not by our MC.
What we do know is West is at Best, a # 2 follower.

Seriously VD, if West is at best a #2 follower, then right now Vardy is about a #4 and Blicavs is a #13.

I know people love Vardy and now Blicavs on here, but not selecting West for that Qualifying Final was one of the biggest selection blunders we've ever seen. We lost the hitouts 53-16. Sandilands effortlessly palmed goals not once but twice to Mayne and Hill. Love to know what Vardy and Blicavs were doing at the time, it sure as shit wasn't being competitive. And yet they still don't get criticised. Just amazing.

Again we're in violent agreement. I have certainly never declared Guthers 'slow' or reticent. I've heard he's one of the quicker ones at the club. I think he looked a couple of times like he was being flashy but I think he was trying to invent stuff that he obviously could see unfolding. If a guy like that then puts a ball rolling around in the corridor and he gets scored against , he looks like a goose. Now he's hitting those targets more often than not and more people are starting to understand what he was trying to do!

It's funny, because some were as recently as March. The obsession at that time was speed in the backline - all you needed to be a defender was pace, pace, pace, pace, and more pace. Did I mention you needed pace? So the proposed candidates were Varcoe and Murdoch. Some of us were conservative and opted for actual defenders like Guthrie. There definitely was criticism that Guthrie was slow. Funny how a year changes things.

He did this year. He was very good throughout the whole NAB Cup. Doesn't help much without an extended run in the seniors.

i still feel our number one target, be it trade or draft should be a key defender, not a flanker. are there any floating around in the late teens in the draft? sully is a name thrown around on here to bring him in from the vfl squad, what about any of the kids, any value? on that phantom draft on the AFL site i think the kid darcy gardiner was the highest listed KPD at an expected 20, so that would be getable if we dont swap our pick 15/16 for a couple in the late 20's as some are suggesting.

Seems to me like Geelong are going to just coast through this years trade period as though it isn't happening.

My facebook feed is filled with rumours and discussions re players and bugger all Geelong talk.

Both picks are probably a bit wishful - would ask for 18, might settle on 25.

Consider that Brisbane are quite settled in the ruck though and have good outside players so the deal most likely wouldn't get over the line :(

West would have done NO BETTER.211 would have killed him, as did Goldstein.

Geelong traditionally plays its cards close to its chest unless/until a deal is announced.

Totally agree, we are a whole 2 and a bit days into the 3 week trade period and nothing. Its outrageous.
