So we have two completely conflicting narratives going on, which is not unusual for this thread:

Shaw has picked Geelong, meanwhile Collingwood and GWS are hard at work on a deal for Shaw and Adams. Would be nice if someone occasionally offered a source!

Clearly the decision by Shaw is a major determinant as to what direction the Adams deal will head. The funny thing will be if Shaw does pick Geelong
I don't think Shaw will be publicly "picking" anyone or putting out his "preference" in the media. I think he'll have a range of offers, we'll say "well you can forget those two, but we're open to these three" for example. He picks his preferred option, a deal gets done and we read about it in the funny papers.

No-one's going to be holding anyone over a barrel, but I doubt we'd deal with Geelong on Shaw at all to be honest. Ditto Hawthorn. I think we'd look at GWS, Melbourne, Bulldogs if they were interested, maybe even Essendon if they had something to trade... but not you guys, Carltank or the Hawks.

Yeah we have heard nothing from Heater or his Manager

Yeah I figured if it wasnt Shaw for Adams then the best path for us was to figure out where Shaw preferred, then decide what was acceptable to us and prevail on those Clubs to work out a player that appeals to GWS - 3 way swap.

Shaw would fit in perfectly at Geelong. Just coming upto the part where he can be apart of their incredibly old/aging list.

Mostly I would just like to tie this up before Geelong figure out a way in the back door to get both Shaw and Adams. People say horforn but I reckon if there's another club that's been kissed on their private parts its Geelong.

The club has said the deal needs to be suitable to us as well. I don't think the club would countenance giving Shaw away to the clubs just mentioned by Sampler while we are competing with them right now. If for some reason Shaw became intransigent about it, the least bad look would be to hold him. He'd play out the two years of his contract and that would be about the end for him.

Right now GWS offer 4 years plus 2 years for mentoring, training or whatever. So he'd have to weigh up 2 more years at Collingwood where he'd get phased out for younger players or 4-6 on good coin which would set him right up. Rhyce is there and in four years GWS probably will be contenders for a flag.

I think that's all completely sensible and it is a deal he should logically consider - it probably all comes down to his current mindset and whether he is thinking rationally or harboring some type of Malthouse-esque revenge fantasy.

With respect, it's not that simple for a few reasons:

1. Shaw is seemingly a major piece in a potential trade for Adams by CFC. If he happens to demand a trade to Geelong or else he stays at the pies (which I think is unlikely btw) then you guys will have to come up with another trade option, be that picks or another player.

2. Buckley initiated the desire to get Shaw out of the club. Not Shaw. I think that with Shaw having the 2 year contract it really means that HE has the ace. He really can direct where he wants to go. Can he really come back to the club and reconcile with Bucks? I'm not sure.

3. If it was all as simple as you say the deal with Adams would be done by now. Clearly the decision by Shaw is a major determinant as to what direction the Adams deal will head. The funny thing will be if Shaw does pick Geelong - what will Collingwood demand from Geelong knowing that we are also in the mix for Adams?!

As I said earlier this one is complex. I don't think it will be finalised quickly unless Shaw accepts the GWS deal.

So let me get this straight.

Geelong fans think a flag contender (Collingwood) is going to trade an elite (by position) contracted player to another flag contender (Geelong) for something over than extreme overs? Yeah, nah.

I don't think Geelong fans think (and rightly so) that we are flag contenders.

I think you are spot on. Shaw has chosen Geelong and I believe that Geelong are very happy to have him. The trade will be an interesting one.

I'd love to be a fly on the wall in that negotiation if your mail is correct!! Do the Pies drive up the asking price and risk further alienating Shaw? Do they just try and get a "fair" deal knowing that there is a risk that Geelong will then look to trade for Adams?

Interesting times.

Correct. At worst we bring him back attempt to mend bridges, if he continues to play up he spends the next 2 years in the twos and its all over. Heath does not want to go by the way, he got sucked in by Daisy and Dids and now realises he stuffed up. Would not be hard to resolve it Bucks wants to.

I'm not sure. You can hardly look to rid yourself of a contracted player AND then demand where you'd like him to go!

You raise a really good point and have seen some comments on this board that might make it smart for us to trade 11 for Adams ASAP. Once he is off the table Geelong either have to deal well for Shaw or go home empty handed.

GWS have pick 9 so we can still trade for Shaw if he changes his mind re GWS.

Tactically I think it makes sense.

Yeah we can. GWS or Collingwood reserves for 2 years.

Yes you can, its called a contract, both parties have to agree and if we don't he stays.

Happened with Wayne Campbell at the Tiges when he was their skipper, played his career out with no issues.

More recent example was Ryan OKeefe trying to go to the Blues, fell over, stayed and no problems.

Glad I read this, because watching footy this year sure didnt instill a lot of confidence in me that we are/were flag contenders!

One thing I was just thinking about (Because White to Collingwood will not be finalized before Shaw & Adams)......What could play out:

Shaw says he wants to go to Geelong. You are not agreeing on a price because you want overs. While you are trying to make this deal, Geelong could blind side you and get Adams. Then you keep Shaw. Not the worse outcome but......

OR

If Shaw nominates Geelong, would you send your first rounder straight away to GWS for adams (maybe exchange of later picks)? (because you will still have the compo pick) To lock that up, and then either get a really good deal out of Geelong or Keep shaw. (With daisy gone you would have some breathing space in the cap.)

Because I really do not see a 3 way deal working out with shaw going from collingwood to geelong especially when Adams narrowed his options down to collingwood or geelong.

Just my take.

That horrible performance against Gold Coast cost us top 4, we are not far away.

That horrible performance against GC showed we were miles away!

I digress though, I'm sure we'll seek a decent trade for Shaw with Adams part of the deal. If it involves Varcoe on our front though, I'm seriously outta here!

Club insider who has never told bullshit in the past. Does not always get it right because things change but this is not about a deal, its about what went down and how we ended up where we are and heath is very much collateral damage.

I would back it at 95% re truth. About the same probability I gave the Daisy going in the thread I started.
