I can see Smith becoming elite more than I can see Macrae getting there tbh. Know I'm almost alone in my views of Macrae though so don't expect many to agree.

Still not convinced of Macrae being a star either but he'll at least be a good player that works hard and stays out of trouble. But you're definitely not alone. Was hoping for Wines, Menzel or Mayes because I saw them more as game changing types

And I definitely think Clay Smith will be a star. Was playing great footy before the injury. His kicking obviously needs improvement but he can kick goals and plays surprisingly well on the outside for a player labeled an inside mid with poor skills. Always thought of him as Kieran Jack type player. They have almost identical body types and game styles. They just look similar in their mannerisms.

I've seen a few folks suggesting this, but like any "futures" trading, it is high risk. Let's say we do a deal with Melbourne for their 1st rounder in 2014 (on 2013 form you'd expect a very early number), but Roosy pulls a rabbit out of the hat and they finish 5th (stop laughing it's hypothetical!), so we get #13. Why/How can you make a trade when the value of what you receive is unknown ? BTW, if that option became available, everybody would be wanting to trade with Richmond...:p
I would be willing to trade this years 2nd round pick for your next years first round pick. OR I will trade x player to you and you give me your 2nd round pick this year IF x player finish in top 5 of your BnF OR finishes top 5 brownlow OR wins tuck medal we also get your 2nd round pick next year.
Make sense?

Stringer will probably be our best player in 2-3 years. MacRae will always live in his shadow but I certainly think he will end up being tagged to stop his excellent forward entries. Smith will be good, like Libba but not as game changing as Stringer

Agree. Anyone that was at this years B&F count will know that Smith was polling very well (8th-10th) all night until Wallis and Rough over took him after his injury against Dons.

Ps. Observers said an early Joel Selwood couldn't kick well, but he has made up for it since..

Ummm.... no. It's a potential minefield.

I think we'd be very lucky if he improved his kicking as much as Jack, it should improve a little though, and other than his kicking he is a great young midfielder.

Gimme macrae over all our kids (assuming Libba ain't a kid anymore). Vision, spacial awareness, decision making, tough (underrated how tough he is), great endurance, mega high IQ (footy IQ and general iq) and the kid wants it so bad. He's the biggest pendlebury clone you could find.

But back to list management......I know nothing about Sam Darley whatsoever. I'll just assume he's a gun.

Darley would be just one of a number of players we could be talking to. It's not that we are going to get them all. Or even some. Or even him. But we have to have in place a plan that works if scenario A doesn't eventuate, then B and C and so on. Just because someone is supposedly sighted at the club means stuff all. Why we go ape about every one that has some vague or distant connection with us is beyond me.

At least we didn't try and get Shaw. An undisciplined muppet that really epitomised the Pies.... I guess GWS want to copy the culture of the Pies.

Not sure if this has been raised, but just looking at a tweet last week from Mark Stevens, Grant's manager back on deck tomorrow so if something is going to happen we may start hearing more whispers shortly.

Reports on Friday were strong that Blues had secured Docherty and just run out of time to lodge papers. As nothing happened today, and Grant's manager back tomorrow, it wouldn't surprise me if we haven't heard the end of this one.

Just my 2c.

Doesn't surprise me at all. I like him a lot. He makes a few mistakes but the knocks on his kicking are overstated IMO. He also kicks off both feet which goes largely unnoticed and importantly - he makes things happen.

Smith is outstanding around goal (surprisingly). His form was good early, but tapered pretty badly through the guts of the season. Needs to seriously work on his decision making and hands as well as his disposal. Still a long way to go, but always worth a spot in the team with his mindless aggression at the footy. I'd Fn hate to play against the guy.

Smith will become a key forward for us down the track
him and stringer will be bullies in the forward 50.

Yeah I'm not convinced his form did taper to a great degree. Similar things were said of Dahl during that period but I think there was a big defensive emphasis during that time and while neither was particularly prominent in the highlight reels, their work loads were demanding and work rates very high.
His decision making is an interesting one. I think he often makes the right decision but sometimes doesn't execute well when he's actually created the time and space for himself to do so.

Sam Darley seems like he could be a Docherty option B, reading about him.
