Staker to sign with Lions
In a disastrous Trade Period for the Brisbane Lions, there is finally some good news. Brent Staker is on the verge of signing a new two-year deal with the club, according to News Limited. Staker was talking to Carlton about a move to Melbourne but the Blues are said to have only offered him a one-year contract.

So glad to see we aren't offering 29/30 year olds 2 or 3 year contracts.

So, no Staker, no Podsiadly, no Didak, no Chapman, no Dal Santo, no worries.

What are your thoughts on Dunstan RK? And where do you think he'll go?
I'm not the man to ask. ;)

These others players seem to fit the sweeping mid role.
Reckon we'd have Everitt earmarked for the Westhoff type forward role. Roam around half forward and sometimes higher to use the height and athleticism to his advantage. Drift further forward if he gets a smaller opponent mismatch.
Could play the Walker or Goldsack role with his mobility, versatility and long kicking.

Players that haven't got a contract as best we know.

McInnes...............Will surely be offered 2 years
Lucas...................No trade, so contract must be in the offing.
Ellard...................Didn't think we'd be moving him on. Can't see more than a year being offered though.
Duigan.................Some say that he has been de-listed. We'll wait and see.
Buckley................Some say he has been given a contract. Again, we'll see.
White...................No advice as yet but a one year contract would be fair.

Curnow...............No advice yet but will surely be offered 2 years.
Cachia.................Just roll on another year on the rookie list.

Scotland..............One year on offer but it wouldn't surprise for Scotland to be playing games in the VFL and helping the kids along.

I know a guy who's family are heavily involved with the doggies. He got to sit in the box a couple of times.

He told me once (a couple of years ago) that about halfway through everitts first game rocket took his headset off, smashed it on the ground and said "it's official! We have just drafted the biggest ******* to ever play AF!!!.."
Yes but Rocket works at Collingwood so the guy clearly has no clue ;)

It's just a little different supporting your own than bringing in older players from outside but yes, the contract should have been 2 years and not 3.
Averaged 2.5 goals in 2012 and 2 goals a game in 2013. At his best he's still a damn good player.

I'm torn on Everitt. If he plays his best football consistently he is a good player. But if he hits that unco form where he fumbles everything... Maybe he grew out of that this year...

For a third rounder, I'll live

I just don't see the position that everitt will play given i'm not the coach. if he takes the hbf role will we see walker in the middle or back forward?

I like the Everitt pick-up. I believe it is the kind of player that would suit Mick's plan. Can play 2nd/3rd tall back, 2nd/3rd tall forward and even up the ground.

It will give us more flexibility to change he and Hendo around to suit the situation. He is the kind of player that will allow for a Waite/Hendo combo in the forward line.

Whilst Watson is the better defender, Everitt is the more versatile and hence giving us that option to pick the team to suit the opposition. For cheap, we are making a really good decision here.
Agree. Also, I don't think Malthouse would make the effort to meet him personally in Port Douglas if he didn't think he had something to offer.

Now that Everitt has nominated Carlton, he is clearly a much better player than he was beforehand.

Now that Everitt has nominated Carlton, we must think we can make him a much better player than he was beforehand.

We haven't got him yet and unless Sydney are happy dealing with a player of ours then it may be a tough get.

According to Trade Radio Yarran never signed a power of attorney to let his manager sign any deals for him whilst he was in Ireland on the off chance he was traded whilst away - translation: there was no possibility of Yazz ever being traded :)

He wasn't 29/30 when he signed his current contract.

Its ok, i just posted it for shits and giggles.

I had no issue with the contract and still don't.

I agree that he won't be traded - but I'm sure there would be avenues of communication that would allow him to sign a contract from Ireland.

Lot better than Savage...

Interesting that Jason McCartney ruled out recruiting Mitch Thorp . I guess clubs that need talls can be picky about the KPP they recruit.
