Just watching the Machida v Mousasi prelims and I got to say the brazilian crowd like always is rocking. They are going to go nuts when Machida walks out

I was thinking that.....They are very vocal today

Lets hope the main card is a step up from that.......

Usually a fight that goes to decision is the best on a card. All the prelims going to decisions wasn't the problem. Some of the fighters being largely unknown and not particularly good, plus the fights being generally underwhelming was the issue. We'd better get used to it because the sheer number of cards the UFC is putting out there means this is going to be the norm for prelims imo.

The main card has been far better. Ogle put up a good fight before getting submitted. Silva looked really good, but that was a huge mismatch. The best part so far is Jacare putting an end to Carmont's winning streak (which included 2 recent questionable decision victories). I'll give Carmont credit for surviving Jacare being on his back for nearly 2 whole rounds though.

The main event went close to how I expected it to go. I thought it'd be a bit closer on the scorecards, but it was one of those fights that was closer than the judges scorecards indicated. I really enjoyed it and it's good to see it got FOTN, although I suppose there wasn't much competition for it on the card.

The new UFC post-fight award structure worked out exactly as it would have in the past. Silva and Oliveira essentially picked up the KOTN and SOTN bonuses, but now they're called performance bonuses.

Jacare or Machida next against the winner of Weidman/Belfort would be a good test for whoever the champ is. I think Weidman beats Belfort and I'm now leaning towards Weidman defeating each of the Brazilian trio if he fights them.

Dunno, a mate is getting me tickets through his work so no idea where they'll be. Is it a good venue?

If you have ringside seats yeh, if not... well at least you can say you were there.

Machida v Jacare as a title eliminator for mine. Winner gets the shot.

So Wiedman/Belfort don't fight to defend the title til late '14 or early '15? I'd like the winner to defend in the second half of the year. Add to that Machida v Jacare may not happen til after mid '14 which again may cause the title bout to be too far off.

I also think that both Machida & Jacare have earned a shot so this could stop either from getting a shot at the title long term. If either fight they both should defend their #2 & #3 spots (excluding Belfort) against #5-#10 fighters.

Just a thought.

The only reason i said what i said is that i'm not convinced either guy (Jacare and Machida) showed themselves as the clear number 1 contender behind Belfort yet both were good without being amazing tonight, so who gets the shot? How do you determine which one of them gets the title shot? If one of them had gotten the finish tonight then fair enough, if both did but one was more convincing then fair enough, but both of them getting clear cut (if uninspiring) decisions doesn't split them to me.

You're right to some degree, but Machida's fight was destined to be a technical fight and he did what was needed to control the action of someone equally technique focused. And I think they chose someone for Jacare who would nullify his takedowns and have a strength advantage. Both fared well with the challenge but Machida had the higher level of opponent which makes him #1 contender to me.

I think Machida's closer to a title shot than Jacare too. Machida's coming off a win against Munoz, who's a top ten guy at MW, and Mousasi who's ranked in the top ten at LHW. Mousasi's shown that he has a solid chin on him in the past and it was evident again today; Machida landed some heavy shots.

Having Machida and Jacare fight would be great, but I don't see the UFC doing that as it'd eliminate one of the two clear options to challenge for the title next.

Apparently one of the advertisements they ran for UFC 170 on the broadcast had Goldberg saying something along the lines of "Rousey is the first female to medal in judo at the olympics". Lol, I think they missed the word "American". Not sure how they didn't realise it was wrong before airing it.

Yeh thats fair, i was hoping for a clear number one to come out of this card and to me one didn't. BradWCE makes a good point that a Machida v Souza fight would eliminate another contender and that has burned the UFC in the past.

I also noticed the "first woman to medal in Judo" line in the promos all weekend, silly oversight that.

First of all, if anything like that ever really happened, it was because guys were cycling in on me," Cormier told White. "I wasn't wrestling just one guy. I was training for the world championships and they were cycling guys in on me.

"If he ever beat me, and if any of this is remotely true, he did it in some obscure wrestling room out in the middle of nowhere where three people saw it. I'm going to whip his ass on the biggest stage on earth on Saturday night."
